Chapter 60: Chapter 60 Not a Little Friend, but a Big Friend
"I..." Ye Wanwan’s cheeks grew warm at the thought of those two words, and she found it somewhat hard to say, but she still managed to feign nonchalance as she said, "My husband is here to pick me up."
Yu Qiqi’s eyes widened in disbelief, "You’re married?"
Ye Wanwan nodded, then shook her left hand, showing off the diamond ring on her ring finger, "I didn’t say anything, but I thought you all knew."
She wore a wedding ring on her left ring finger, thinking others would naturally note it, so she said nothing.
If she proclaimed her marriage to everyone she met, they would surely think her mad.
"We did see it, but..." But they had all assumed it was mere decoration, after all, don’t girls like to wear all kinds of jewelry for the sake of it?
Ye Wanwan quickly spotted the familiar car in front of the company building. She turned to Yu Qiqi and said, "My husband is here, I’m off first. See you next week."
"Er, okay." Yu Qiqi, still in disbelief, watched Ye Wanwan wave goodbye and then jog off.
Upon seeing the car Ye Wanwan got into, Yu Qiqi gasped.
*
Ye Wanwan jogged all the way there, and she was still a bit out of breath when she opened the car door and sat down.
Shen Yi reached out to push the hair sticking to her cheek to one side, "Just walk slowly, no need to run."
Ye Wanwan looked at Shen Yi, saying nothing, just smiling foolishly.
Some things are a subconscious reaction, even though she always tried to control her emotions, not wanting to focus too much on Shen Yi.
But just knowing Shen Yi was in the car, she couldn’t help wanting to rush over and share her happiness with him.
"It seems you had a pleasant day at work," Shen Yi said.
Ye Wanwan nodded, "I feel this job really suits me, I’ve adapted so well."
There wasn’t relentless busyness from morning till night, nor any unpleasant colleagues, she found the job truly agreeable.
Shen Yi took a bag from beside him and handed it to Ye Wanwan, speaking softly, "Brought you milk tea and cake, you’ve worked hard today."
Ye Wanwan, looking at Shen Yi, felt her face inexplicably grow hot. Why did she feel like Shen Yi was treating her like a kindergartener on her first day of school, coddling her?
In the morning he’d drop her off at work, in the afternoon he’d pick her up, and even bring her milk tea.
That phrase "you’ve worked hard today" sounded to Ye Wanwan like a parent praising a child who didn’t cry on their first day of school, saying "You’re so good, you’re amazing."
"I’m not a child!" Ye Wanwan muttered under her breath.
Shen Yi chuckled, took out the milk tea, inserted a straw, and handed it to Ye Wanwan, as if resignedly saying, "Mhm, not a child, a big friend."
Ye Wanwan cast Shen Yi a sidelong glance.
Shen Yi pushed the milk tea toward her again, smiling, "So, milk tea?"
Ye Wanwan’s gaze shifted to the milk tea, and after a moment’s hesitation, she still accepted it, holding the cup with both hands and taking a sip.
There was also a small piece of cake in the bag; Shen Yi took it out, "Do you want to eat the cake now?"
Ye Wanwan chewed the fruit morsels in her mouth, not looking at Shen Yi nor speaking.
Shen Yi, however, already understood her thoughts and silently opened the cake box.
Having had the milk tea and cake, the smile never left Ye Wanwan’s lips.
Even though it was a treat meant for appeasing children, she accepted it all the same.
