Chapter 937: Chapter 916 He Doesn’t Have Time to Fight, Only Time to Beat People Up!

Fight?

He sure didn’t have time for that!

He only had time to beat someone up!

"Chani Gordon, you get out of my way!" Rio Gordon exploded with rage; this naive-looking little girl was obviously being bullied and still covering up for the bully, "Owen Hayes, knowing that she likes you, is this how you mistreat her?"

Rio Gordon clearly didn’t believe Chani Gordon’s claims that nothing had happened between them, firmly trusting what his own ears had heard—the sentence about it being her first time and his need to take responsibility for it!

"Mistreat? Rio Gordon, do you really think that all men mistreat others’ feelings like you?"

Owen Hayes gave him a cold look, then raised an eyebrow provocatively, "Not all men are scoundrels like you. The things I have done, I have done; those I haven’t, even if the whole world recognizes, I, Owen Hayes, will not admit to them!"

"What do you mean?" His raised fist suddenly stopped, and even if Rio was slow to catch on, he understood the implication of his words now, especially since he wasn’t slow-witted, "Are you standing up for Senna Leon?"

"You’re aware of the injustice against her now?" Owen Hayes kept provoking even though he knew Chani’s older brother was very angry, "I thought you were oblivious to it!"

His words fell, and the room went silent. Even Chani Gordon, who had been noisy and wanting to explain, suddenly froze, her entire being dumbstruck. When she turned to look at Owen Hayes again, her eyes widened to their limits with disbelief as if she had received the greatest shock, "Owen Hayes, you like Senna Leon?!"

Though it was a question, in Chani Gordon’s heart, it was already an affirmative statement. An emotion akin to collapse engulfed her. She wanted to roar out loud like the female leads in TV series, but sadly, despite using all her strength, she couldn’t utter a word, her lips just trembled incessantly.

"Chani!"

Rio Gordon was shocked and immediately pushed Owen Hayes aside, reaching out to grab her, but the girl just collapsed to the floor, her legs giving way, "Chani, don’t scare me like this!"

Chani Gordon, as if she hadn’t heard him, let herself sit sprawled on the ground, her eyes empty as she stared at Owen Hayes. She thought he was just somewhat repressed; although he didn’t like her much, he didn’t dislike her either. He seemed to enjoy her pursuit of him and didn’t find it burdensome, which is why she pursued her happiness so bravely!

Only now did she realize that her so-called bravery had been a joke and a burden in the eyes of others.

"Chani, what’s wrong with you?"

Owen Hayes wanted to come over to help her up but was pushed away by Rio Gordon, with no chance to get close.

Rio Gordon swung a punch directly at him, and the man was quick to react, dodging with a turn of his head, which made the already irritable Young Master of the Gordon family even angrier, "Owen Hayes, after doing such a scoundrel’s deed, you still dare to dodge?!"

"What scoundrel deed have I done? Why should I dodge?" Owen Hayes was utterly perplexed. Apparently, one couldn’t even dodge when being irrationally attacked by someone who was either heartbroken or had taken the wrong medicine today. If it wasn’t for the sake that he was Chani’s older brother, would he have allowed such wanton behavior?

"You dare to bully the sister of Rio Gordon and say you haven’t done anything scoundrel-like? Owen Hayes, if you don’t like her, just man up and tell her straight. You having someone else in your heart while leading her on, making her chase after you every day—you find that entertaining?"

Owen Hayes: "..."

"What do you mean I have someone else in my heart? Rio Gordon, just because you’re heartless and don’t understand a woman’s heart, don’t lump me in with you, okay?"

Owen Hayes was about to explode with frustration, "Not every man is as cold-blooded as you, blind to a girl’s devotion!"

As if feeling no emotion himself, he made it seem like all men were equally clueless, "I think you’re the one in the Gordon family who understands feelings the least!"

Doesn’t understand feelings?

Those words struck deep into Rio’s heart, involuntarily bringing to mind Senna Leon’s sunny, cheerful face—not as radiant as Chani’s, but pure and natural, so that even the slightest male thought about her felt like an insult!

Rio was completely stunned, so much so that when Owen Hayes pushed past him to go to Chani’s side, he didn’t even notice.

"How come you’ve taken such a huge blow?" Although he vaguely guessed that this girl might have misunderstood something, he didn’t think it was a big deal, so he extended his hand without a thought to help her, "Get up, the ground is cold, it’s not good for a girl’s health, otherwise..."

Owen Hayes didn’t continue his sentence, because he felt that such words coming from a guy were a bit embarrassing!

"Owen Hayes, is it that if I weren’t Rio Gordon’s sister, you wouldn’t even have the spare time to deal with me?" Chani didn’t accept the hand he offered and shook it off, not even standing up, "You like Senna Leon, so why don’t you say it? Just because she likes my brother and you don’t stand a chance, you decide to lead me on?"

The reason Chani said he was leading her on was because, although she was the one pursuing him, he seemed not to repel her, nor did he get angry. At most, he just reminded her to be mindful of her noble status. Many times, deep down, she still felt that he liked her!

If not for the conversation she had just overheard, Chani would have thought that this man actually did like her, and that he only liked it when she took the initiative. But now, the conversation between him and her brother was quite clear...

Hearing her decisive questioning, Owen Hayes deeply furrowed his brows. Since the girl was sitting on the ground refusing his help, he had no choice but to crouch down as well.

"When did I say I liked Senna Leon?" Even though they were both crouching, the man still towered a head above the girl, "I’ve thought it over very carefully, inside and out, and it seems I’ve never said such a thing. I really don’t understand how your perfectly good ears came up with that idea."

"You obviously said it. My brother said you were standing up for Senna Leon, and you didn’t deny it, so you admitted it!"

Owen Hayes: "..."

How had he not realized that women were so adept at splitting hairs?

"I admitted it? The exact words were these: So you even know she’s being treated unfairly—I thought you didn’t know? Is that an admission?" Owen Hayes felt both annoyed and amused. He had only mocked the man with a sentence, and this girl heard it as such, looking almost devastated by it. It seemed he had to give some response, or the woman who’s been pursuing him for so long might finally give up!
