Chapter 811: Chapter 790: Who Else Do You Want to Marry? Tell Me?
Chapter 790
"Wife, if you don’t marry me, whom else do you want to marry? Tell me?"
Lucas Sandy didn’t care at all about being slapped fiercely; that was the kind of release he wanted. It’s true he wasn’t very adept at sweet-talking women; these few tender words were collected from eavesdropping on CEO Gordon during the days when Ivy Aretha was hospitalized.
It was clear that he had already run out of sweet nothings to say, but as a doctor, he knew almost better than anyone how to vent emotions. So, he deliberately presented his face again, and sure enough, the woman was dumbstruck after slapping him!
"Lucas Sandy, have you gone mad? A big man being slapped by a woman, aren’t you afraid of becoming a laughingstock if word spreads?"
And it was a slap on the face; in Alette Larson’s traditional mindset, a man could be hit anywhere but the face. That was a line that should not be crossed. So even if it were by accident, even if he had moved his face closer on purpose, Alette Larson was still stunned!
"A laughingstock? Getting slapped by one’s wife would become a laughingstock?" He just couldn’t believe that Michael Gordon, Oliver Thompson, and a few other big guys had never been slapped by women. Weren’t they living better than anyone now? He wasn’t very familiar with Ivy, so he didn’t know if she would slap a man, but Julie Harrison, with her temperament, would not spare any mercy and wouldn’t give face to anyone once she exploded!
But they managed to claim their happiness!
"If it’s you who’s doing the slapping, I don’t care if it’s a laughingstock. Nowadays, which man doesn’t get slapped by his wife a few times!"
Another mention of "wife"?
The more Alette Larson listened, the less pleasing it sounded, yet seeing how the man remained so nonchalant and even showed deep indulgence in his eyes after being slapped by her, she was momentarily at a loss for words!
Perhaps she had never encountered such a situation before!
"You..."
"Don’t deny it, you’ve already slapped me, so you’re not allowed to abandon me!" Lucas Sandy looked at her with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile, watching her change from furious to awkward and confused. The amusement in his eyes grew stronger, "Lucas Sandy’s slap isn’t something any random person can give, only my wife is allowed to slap me!"
Alette Larson: "..."
Isn’t this bullying?
No, wait, this tactic seemed familiar; Alette Larson could almost surmise that this man had had some interactions with the one currently in the bridal chamber upstairs!
The style, the demeanor was all too similar!
But indeed, for someone like Lucas Sandy, let alone a slap, even speaking to him with such an attitude was only because he had pursued her, asked her out, and even dared to use the term "fiancée."
If he had said nothing and maintained their hierarchical colleague relationship, where would she have had the guts to throw such a tantrum or speak so disrespectfully?
Thinking this way, being liked did come with privileges, didn’t it!
The fuss was enough; Lucas Sandy had shown good patience this time, enduring punches and kicks, and even offering his face to be slapped. As a man, or rather, as a man like him, it was really enough; if she continued the ruckus, it would be too much!
After all, she just wanted to make a fuss, and to be honest, she wasn’t ready to let go. No matter how you looked at it, Lucas Sandy was out of her league; her disappearance was just due to a lack of security from climbing too high, with no other motive.
It was best to quit while she was ahead; if she pushed any further and things really broke off, she’d be the one at a loss!
It was so hard for her to find a presentable husband. The nurse position wasn’t exactly coveted by the average, family-oriented man—they couldn’t stand the numerous night shifts that left no time for family life!
So the men who were willing to accept a nurse with no standard holidays, prone to overtime and night shifts, were typically those who eyed her decent income and were content to mooch off a woman!
Michael Gordon had always been strict with his employees, and equally so with salaries—they were certainly well matched!
Therefore, Alette Larson, the top special nurse for Ivy Aretha, had a salary that was astronomical for someone in the working class, with an annual income of over a million. For men at Alette’s level, those who could accept a woman who neglected family life were often just after her salary!
As a result, Alette hardly had any suitable men around her, save for one, Jeno Smith, but he was simply not from her world. More importantly, he wasn’t the type of man she liked. She fancied someone like Lucas Sandy, a doctor she admired—no, admired wasn’t the right word, more accurately, he was the man of her dreams.
Nurses naturally tended to like doctors, and they had a lot in common career-wise, providing plenty to talk about. But that wasn’t the most important factor. Lucas Sandy himself was top-notch in looks and demeanor; even his habitually cold indifference was enough to make countless people swoon.
Such a man, upon entering the hospital, was immediately targeted by female doctors and nurses. It was frustrating; there were too many women who wanted him, but few ever had the chance. Alette Larson was, fortunately, one of those lucky nurses who got to work with him!
She never dared to imagine that one day he would like her, so much so that when he said he liked her and wanted to be her fiancé, she thought it was just talk. But even if it was just talk, she agreed. In fact, deep down, she probably would have agreed even if it was just a game to him!
It was only now that Alette realized she had such a subconscious desire!
That’s why when he vanished without a trace, the fear that it was all just talk seemed to be confirmed, throwing her into a state of extreme panic at the thought of losing him!
So when he appeared again, all her pent-up emotions burst forth without restraint, in an uncontainable, thorough outburst!
But after the outburst, the fear that this kind of man would be completely lost to her because of her temper struck her heart. So, after slapping him, she calmed down completely!
"Lucas Sandy..."
She wanted to say something, but realized that anything she might say could be wrong. In the end, she chose to remain silent.
"Wife!"
Seeing that the woman’s temper had improved significantly, Lucas Sandy felt at ease. It was time for her to vent the emotions that had been bottled up for so long. Now, after venting, they could seriously talk things through.
Clearly, the right moment had come now!
"Hmm?"
Alette Larson didn’t correct his address of her. On one hand, it was pointless to try and make a man change how he addressed her; on the other, deep down, she really liked being called that. Subconsciously, she still wanted to be his wife as much as ever!
