"But Ivy, your mother had the same fiery personality back then. She ran off to Andras City against my advice, and ended up in such a dire situation that she lost her own life," the old king let out another heavy sigh after speaking, "As a man, and as your grandfather, I fear you may tread the same path as your mother. Thus, I am going to be a bit more ruthless this time, as I can’t have you throw your life away for a man like your mother did."

Waving his old hand, he commanded, "Take the Little Princess to Ruby Ross Palace!"

Then, he earnestly looked at Michael Gordon and said, "I’m sorry, Mr. Gordon, Ivy is my granddaughter. It wouldn’t be considered an offense if I want her back, would it?"

Michael Gordon’s eyebrows knitted together, a profound darkness spreading across his face. The murderous glint in his eyes grew stronger by the moment, as he retorted, "What do you think, Your Majesty? Robbing me of my wife has scattered my family and disturbed my peace. If that’s not an offense, then what is?"

Such a crafty old man, attempting to usurp his wife while maintaining their familial ties, striving to avoid offense. As if it was possible to have it both ways!

"Initially, I had planned to address you as grandfather on Ivy’s behalf, but it seems unnecessary now!"

Michael’s words were chilling, instantly casting an icy pall over the room. The old king and Michael’s exchange was far from amiable, and naturally, Sammy and Spencer Lowe kept a respectful silence.

They were both wise enough to know that in such a situation, any unnecessary word could make them cannon fodder. A foolish act that neither of them would commit.

"No worries, I never expected you, Mr. Gordon, to address me as ’grandfather.’ Although I hold some clout in the Orchid Kingdom, compared to the prestigious Gordon family, my influence is meager at best. Since I am in no position to climb up the social ladder, I won’t allow my granddaughter Ivy to suffer under the expected burdens. Don’t think I don’t know about Gordon family’s attitude towards Ivy. He had already investigated these matters; otherwise, he wouldn’t indulge his grandsons in pursuing Ivy. "Plus, I’ve reached out to your father, Calvin, informing him of my intention to take Ivy back, and he didn’t oppose."

With each word from the old king, Michael was taken aback. No wonder during their last conversation, Calvin had urged him to take care of Ivy. So, he had already informed Calvin about it. That was how he learned that no grudges existed between him and Ivy.

It turns out that greater preparations were made than he had anticipated. Michael gently nodded, then chuckled before answering, "So what? That just means I love Ivy more than you think. If I love Ivy more than you can imagine, what gives you the right to keep us apart?"

Such words took the old king by surprise. He assumed that by mentioning Calvin, he would back down. No one who dreams of doing great things would want to be caught between a rock and a hard place, especially not for a woman.

"How so? If your father doesn’t acknowledge her as his daughter-in-law, then how does that prove that you love her more than I imagined?"

The old king was even more puzzled. He didn’t quite understand what he meant.

Michael laughed, looked at him knowingly, and said, "Traditionally, a father’s love is as firm as a mountain, his words the law. That goes for the Gordon family as well. My father’s words are my law. I defied that law for the sake of loving Ivy. Can you still say I don’t love her more than you could imagine?"

He paused before continuing, "Furthermore, I’m willing to give her everything. Marriage, a wedding, all the love I have to offer, and even the property of the Gordon family..." Before he could finish, Ivy hurriedly covered his mouth.

Before he could grasp her spontaneous action, Ivy whispered in his ear, "These people are eyeing your wealth for the presidential competition. If they discover that I control your wealth, they will never let me return."

Ivy clearly understood their motivations. Their primary objective was her, as she held the key to the legendary Orchid Kingdom treasure. That’s why they found her among the populace and brought her back to their country to be part of their family.

The intensity of their whispers was such that only they could hear each other. To others, it looked like they were deeply in love, the model of a loving couple.

"Your Majesty, my wife can’t bear to part from me, yet you want to split us apart. Does it mean that you don’t want your so-called granddaughter to be happy?"

Michael looked at Ivy, calculating the timing in his mind. Ignoring the soldiers clad in black uniforms, he skirted past one and headed for the door. The soldiers didn’t dare to harm Ivy, but to detain Michael, with their numerical advantage, it didn’t pose much of a problem.

"How so?" Michael shot the soldiers a frosty look, glanced at Sammy, and then turned to the old king, "Is it fun to ruin your granddaughter’s happiness and corner the CEO of Allure International? I’m sorry, Your Majesty, I have to take Ivy with me today. Either hinder me or let me walk away. As the junior party, I’ve said all that I should. The rest will not be put into words."

His words barely ceased when he swiftly swept his long legs toward the soldiers who were tightening their encirclement, taking them by surprise. They had been focusing on Ivy, considering how to take her without causing harm. Consequently, they didn’t expect Michael’s sudden attack. He caught them off guard, and they fell flat on the ground.
