Chapter 624: Chapter 603: This Silly Man...

The child? Dead?

As the man’s voice fell, Sienna Harrison could only feel as if a bucket of ice-cold water was poured directly on her from head to toe. Her temperature plummeted from a normal 37 degrees Celsius to 0 instantaneously, the cold sensation reaching the depths of her heart. Her trembling hands couldn’t help but touch her flat abdomen, the color in her eyes gradually darkening by the inch.

However, Sienna still couldn’t bring herself to believe that it was true, or to have doubts about his furious words. But in the next moment, all her illusions were shattered.

"Your child didn’t survive?" It was clear that Theo Scott didn’t know that the child hadn’t made it. "But when your mother announced the delay of the wedding celebration, didn’t she tell reporters that both mother and child were safe?"

He genuinely didn’t know that the child hadn’t survived. If he knew, he wouldn’t have come to Jaysen Smith to perform such futile efforts!

Theo initially believed that Jaysen was okay, and Sienna and the child had recovered, so he thought persuading Jaysen to hand over the woman responsible to the police should have been relatively straightforward. Now, he realized the child hadn’t survived, so...

Theo was also severely shaken.

"Mother and child safe?"

Hearing Theo’s words, Jaysen suddenly laughed softly. But only he knew how desolate his pale smile was. Through the lens of the video screen, Sienna saw the man’s face flash with a strong hint of self-mockery. That deeply desolate laughter, tinged with guilt, managed to make Sienna feel it all despite watching through a screen alone.

"Can the mother and child be safe? The child is already gone. Do we have to sacrifice Madeline too? Is there a choice?"

Announcing Sienna’s survival to the public and claiming the mother and child were safe was both a temporary solution and the only solution.

"You heartless people wouldn’t understand how much Madeline loved that child. But I do. The child is already gone, and I can’t let Madeline be buried too!"

Sienna clearly saw the blood in Jaysen’s eyes turn red, his murderous rage intensifying in the screen. "So, Theo Scott, give up your idea. Today, for Madeline’s sake, I will pretend that you never came here. But if you dare to get in the way of avenging my child again, I am sorry – you will go to hell along with that hillbilly woman of yours!"

Having said that, without giving Theo any chance to speak, Jaysen directly ordered, "Take it slow, no need to send you off!"

Theo wanted to say something but found that he couldn’t utter a word. Even if he did, it would be useless. Besides, for the sake of Sienna and the child she lost, he shouldn’t say anything at all. In the end, Theo sighed and left the reception room.

The empty room was now devoid of occupants but Jaysen Smith.

Sienna stared blankly at the familiar man on the screen, noticing his bloodshot eyes and the restrained rage within them as well as his clenched fists. His gloomy face was so different from his usual demeanor, causing her heart to ache.

Sienna felt like her heart was being twisted and tormented, the pain suffocating her. It seemed as if her chest was spasming, and her heart had stopped...

It turned out her child had been gone for quite some time. At this moment, all the abnormal images that had slipped past her attention came back to her. That day, when she awoke from a coma, she felt that something was wrong with her lower body. When she asked about it, Jaysen cut her off before she could even finish her sentence, assuring her that the child was fine. Now, thinking back, she finally understood.

His face was awful at the time. Later, when her mother-in-law came to the hospital and the topic of the child came up, her face changed and she quickly left, claiming to have other matters to attend to. Afterwards, whenever Lucas Sandy came to check on her, he would watch her closely. One time, when Dr. Sandy mentioned that her body was completely recovered and that she was healthy enough to roll up the bed sheets, she had made a comment about his strange sense of humor.

"Dr. Sandy, you have quite a heavy taste in jokes. I’m still pregnant!" At this, Lucas Sandy’s face stiffened before he added, "Right, you are still pregnant, so tell your husband to restrain himself!"

Sienna had thought that Lucas and Jaysen were on good terms, so he had simply joked and forgotten the real situation. Now, it seems it wasn’t like that at all. Both doctors knew the truth and had let it slip accidentally, for they hadn’t fully covered it up.

She especially remembered, during that time, Jaysen’s face had been very pale and tense. He even complained about Dr. Sandy, calling him an unreliable, beastly doctor who should treat animals instead.

Also, just this morning, Sienna had been talking happily about the baby, while Jaysen’s face was so pale it made her heart tremble. When she looked up, she saw his forced smile and heard him blame it on not eating meat. She tried to help him, only to find that her body was completely still, without any reaction whatsoever!

This was clearly not about wanting to make love. Instead, it was the mention of their child that caused him pain. Yet, Sienna knew nothing at the time and kept mentioning the child, inadvertently rubbing salt into his wounds!

Despite his pain, Jaysen had gone to great lengths to hide the truth from her to protect their child. Did he not also suffer from this burden?

The man was on the verge of breakdown!

With these thoughts, Sienna felt her heart aching as if it was bleeding. Her hand, which had been on her abdomen, slowly moved up to her chest, attempting fruitlessly to alleviate her heartache.

Sienna felt as if her head was spinning.

This foolish man...

Did he think it was possible to hide the fact that her child had been growing inside of her?

The reception room now only had Jaysen Smith left. He stood there, looking at a painting on the wall, deep in thought. His bloodshot eyes began to well up, and his graceful figure was shrouded in an indescribable sadness.

Suddenly, Sienna threw off her headphones and ran out of the reception room. The receptionist who was guarding the door saw her red eyes and immediately followed her out.

"Young Madam, what’s wrong?"

"I’m fine!"

Sienna glanced at them and ordered, "Don’t tell the Young Master I was here and heard anything!"

"Huh?"

The receptionist, a young man who seemed quite intelligent, looked puzzled at first but soon understood. "Alright, I know. Please don’t worry, Young Madam. I won’t mention it to the Young Master!"

"It’s not just not mentioning it – even if he asks, you can’t say anything!"
