Chapter 614: Chapter 593: If you survive a great disaster, you’re bound to be blessed!

"Cough cough..."

Jaysen Smith was silently bowing his head, Lucas Sandy was about to say something, but he was attracted by the faint, weak coughing coming from the hospital bed.

"Madeline!"

The quickest to react was Jaysen, who immediately lunged excitedly towards the bed, shortly followed by Lucas Sandy who hurriedly pushed Jaysen aside. Sandy stared intently at the pallid woman lying in the bed, pressing the stethoscope to her chest.

Jaysen could only watch helplessly as Sandy blocked his view and conducted a thorough check-up on her. With every change in Sandy’s expression, Jaysen’s heart rose into his throat, leaving him in a state of high tension. Due to his anxiety, Jaysen’s hands gradually clenched into fists.

"How is Madeline? Is there something wrong?"

Even though he was speaking to Sandy, Jaysen’s gaze remained fixated on Sienna Harrison’s fragile, white facade. Her once pale complexion, after a few days of care, finally made her look alive. Noticing that Sandy wasn’t responding, Jaysen became more anxious, "Speak up, is there a problem with her breath?"

Jaysen was truly terrified by his own impulsive action. Even thinking about it now gave him chills. If she had truly asphyxiated from his kiss, even suicide as repentance wouldn’t suffice. As he worried more, especially with Sandy not saying a word, his fear escalated.

"Alright, you don’t have to worry!"

Just as beads of sweat began to form on Jaysen’s forehead due to anxiety, Sandy removed the stethoscope and his face revealed an unusual expression of joy, "Congratulations! Your woman has finally decided to wake up!"

"You mean Madeline’s awake?"

Jaysen, in his excitement, grabbed Sandy by the collar. His expressive eyes swelled with emotion, gleaming like black jade, a moist glint capturing the sheen of his glasses.

"Yes, it seems like the legend where the prince revives the long slumbering princess with a true love’s kiss is true!" Sandy, unusually in a good mood, didn’t take offense. He gently removed Jaysen’s hand from his collar and said lightly, "Perhaps, Mrs. Smith was awoken by your passionate kiss!"

Jaysen: "..."

"When do you think she’ll wake up?"

Jaysen was extremely excited. After this long period, he was finally seeing her awake. But on observing the woman on the bed, who showed no signs of consciousness, he said, "Are you just trying to placate me?"

Sandy questioned whether it was his own ears playing tricks or if Jaysen was being ridiculous.

"How old are you that you need to be placated?"

Sandy was exasperated by Jaysen’s naivety, realizing that geniuses can become fools when it comes to those they love. "Just stay here with her. She should open her eyes within the next hour. Now, Alette we should leave here and not disturb their heartfelt confession."

Jaysen: "..."

Isn’t it too late for a heartfelt confession now?

After Sandy and Alette Larson left, Jaysen moved a stool and sat at the head of Sienna’s bed. Resting his head on his hands, he stared motionlessly at her peaceful face. This was not the first time he had looked at her so intently, but every time he did, he found her even more stunning. This beauty had started to seep into his bones from their first encounter, making him unable to detach himself.

That year, in the prime of their youth, her audacious personality had stormed into his heart, asserting its place—a place from which he could never remove her. She had, however, forgotten his existence. Fortunately, after all their experiences, they ended up together. The girl he wanted to protect was finally in his care. But this time...

He had failed to protect her. The child she had longed for was gone. He didn’t dare to imagine her reaction after learning about this.

"Madeline, I am sorry. I failed to protect you!"

In a soft choked voice, he spoke these words. The small hand he held tightly in his own twitched slightly, a movement so unexpected that it shocked him. He stared intently at her hand in his, making sure it wasn’t an illusion. After a while, he could still clearly feel her fingers move.

Surprise sweeping over him, Jaysen immediately stood up. His emotions were so intense he kicked the stool away, creating a loud clang in the silent ward.

Even though he desperately wanted to call out her name, due to his intense anxiety, the words got stuck in his throat. All that was left were hot, rolling tears falling incessantly like broken beads, intertwining with her hair.

"Jay...Jaysen, is...is that really you?"

Somewhere distantly, Sienna seemed to hear a man’s voice and his familiar scent. Before she had a chance to open her eyes, she was enveloped in his familiar warmth, his larger hand firmly holding hers. She could feel his fingers warm against her own!

Was he still alive?

"Jaysen, are you still alive? Or have I died too?"

As she finished saying this, Sienna finally mustered the strength to open her eyes. She saw the tear-stained face of a man, clear features, a real presence, and his familiar warmth. Even his breath was warm. Could it be that he hadn’t died?

Without thinking, Sienna extended her other hand, gently stroking his moist face. His glasses fogged up slightly, and while looking through them, his focused and profound gaze seemed to pierce right through them all the way to her heart.

"Jaysen, why are you crying?"

"I’m not crying! I’m extremely happy!"

Having heard her familiar voice and feeling a sense of reality, Jaysen finally managed to say what he had been trying to.

"Are you really alive? Or have I also died?"

For the first time, Sienna was asking such a foolish question.

"It’s me, I am alive, and you are alive too. We are both very much alive!"

Sienna’s hand, which was caressing his face, was now being passionately kissed by Jaysen, "Madeline, I have been waiting for you to wake up for so long, I was starting to lose hope!"

As he watched her tears falling more profusely, Sienna finally accepted that they both were alive. In this moment, her heart, once weighed heavily even during her slumber, was finally relieved. A wave of joy washed over her...

"I thought you died after the car fell. I clearly saw you and the car tumble down, yet how did you..."

She choked on the words, replaced by a strangled sob.

"I had promised you that I would take care of you for a lifetime. I had also promised you that I wouldn’t die, so I couldn’t have died!" Jaysen said. As he held her hand, he leaned over to kiss her tears away. The intimate proximity caused their tears to merge...
