Chapter 539: Chapter 518: Didn’t You Say You Were Going to Make People Happy?
Immediately after, Julia changed the topic: "Oliver, that... person is calling for you!"
"Hmm!"
Oliver just hummed, not paying much attention. Julia was about to remind him that it was his childhood sweetheart calling for him. Although previously, she had heard Amanda confess that Oliver had always liked her, they were still closest friends all the way growing up.
At one point, Oliver seemed determined to marry her, only to completely give up the idea after she succeeded in her forced marriage. From then on, it was all about their war between women. After fighting for so many years, she realized now that neither of them had ever won.
When she used to compete with Amanda, she’d always console herself that she owned the man’s heart, but at least she had his body, so it was equal. But now she realized that the man’s body and heart belonged to the other woman.
Yet she never knew that she had not paid back what she owed him, but instead let him repay her. For the first time, Julia hated herself for being foolish. If she had been an intelligent and determined woman like Ivy, would she have already achieved happiness?
Instead of an uncertain life in the midst of gunfire.
"Oliver, your childhood sweetheart is crying for help. What’s your point? If you’re ready to save her, I’ll hold my fire. After all, I don’t have the habit of turning on my own brothers!"
Amanda was quietly listening to Michael’s words, which made her more and more anxious. She didn’t know what Oliver would do; he should save her, right?
After all, they had the most beautiful childhood together.
But what she had done to Julia today had stripped her of even that confidence.
Time seemed to stop.
One second, two seconds, three seconds...
Finally, he spoke in response.
However, the answer was more than just a little unexpected.
"She’s already in your hands, play with her as you like. I’m not even in the mood to care about that crap right now since I still haven’t brought my wife home yet!"
Oliver’s words were directed at Michael, but his eyes were fixed on Julia, unmoving. It felt like he was telling her half of that message. Julia felt her heart race uncontrollably.
They had been married for so many years and had done more intimate things, but why did her heart race unchanged when he looked at her like this?
Seeing Amanda’s face lose all color, Julia knew despair firsthand and understood how desperate she had been earlier.
She never wanted to offend Michael, but why did that girl appear out of nowhere? If she hadn’t appeared, Michael wouldn’t have been so ruthless to her!
Wanting to speak up again, Amanda was pre-empted. Michael glanced at the two men and the woman huddled together, saying indifferently, "If you want to coax your wife home, why are you still here? Can’t you just leave if you don’t want me to call the police to pick you up?"
Oliver: "..."
If he could leave, what would he be doing in this damn cave? He’s not sick in the head.
That gunshot nearly cost him his life; his wounds haven’t healed that quickly. He’s been pulling the trigger and saving people today; it’s already good enough that he didn’t die here, let alone carry his wife out?
So when he heard this, Oliver wanted to curse. But before he could open his mouth, the sound of the helicopter outside the cave roared, and his men finally arrived!
Having persisted for so long, they were finally here!
The next moment, before several people in the cave could react, the outsiders were already charging in with guns, led by a young man who saluted Oliver: "Sir, ma’am, we’re late!"
Oliver only nodded and said after a while: "Police always have the knack of showing up at the very last moment. You’re getting closer to their level!"
With that simple statement, the leading man broke into a cold sweat. The boss really wasn’t giving them any face. As Special Forces, flying here from a faraway place on a plane, they had been quite fast already.
Only now did Harvey understand why earlier, when Michael had entered, the faint footsteps outside were not those of the police. He had hesitated to make a move, fearing that he was surrounded.
Now, he realized that he had missed the best opportunity to fight back.
Damn!
So insidious!
That kind of scheme did not sound like something Oliver would do, nor like something Michael would. So who was it then?
Who wasn’t there?
But before he had a chance to think about it, he was already under control.
Noticing that the people to destroy the base had arrived, Michael threw his gun to the leading young man without further ado and then went to Oliver, helping the man who couldn’t move on top of Julia.
"Wait!"
Oliver first took off his trench coat to wrap Julia before slowly getting up with Michael’s help.
As he removed the coat, Julia finally found the glaring red stain on his chest.
He hadn’t fired his gun when he came in today, nor had he been hit. Obviously, it was the old injury, and such a serious old wound was on his chest near the heart. Instinctively, Julia’s heart raced.
"Oliver, how’s your wound?"
Although the pain was almost unbearable for him, when he glimpsed Julia’s worried expression, he felt that her wounds hurt more than his. Her face had been slapped five times, and there was blood all over her lips.
Without a doubt, her anger had caused her to cough blood again. This old problem persisted; when she got excited, she would easily cough up blood. In severe cases, she would even spout blood. There was no cure, as it was said to be an illness brought from her mother’s womb. Even Lucas was powerless.
As long as she maintained a good mood and didn’t get angry, there was no other way!
So even if he was angry, he would vent it in bed at most but never lose his temper. But today, these two blind people dared to do this to her!
"Michael, didn’t you say you want to make people happy? Why hasn’t that happened yet?"
What "make people happy" meant, everyone understood whether it was from Mr. Thompson or Mr. Gordon. The difference was subtle.
