Chapter 536: Chapter 515: As long as you’re alive, I will forgive you!
"Roy, can you carry Bianca?"
As Oliver Thompson said this, his eyes were locked on Harvey Dunn, his face was tense with no signs of easing up, his fingers pressed hard on the trigger. "If you can carry her, bring Bianca over to me. If you can’t, bite hard on one of Bianca’s fingers to wake her up and walk over together!"
"Dad, I can carry Bianca, I’ll carry her over!"
Hearing that he had to bite Bianca to wake her up, Roy Thompson decisively chose to carry and walk Bianca over. This kind of tense, life-or-death situation was not suitable for a young girl to witness. It might traumatize her. Last time Harvey Dunn tried to strangle her, she fainted from fear. It was clear she was just a little girl who talked tough.
Naturally, she’d be scared if things got serious!
With that in mind, Roy Thompson held Bianca, who wasn’t much smaller than him, in his arms, struggling step by step to carry her towards Oliver Thompson. Sweat beads formed on his young forehead. The two kids, being about the same age, didn’t have much of a weight disparity, but one of them was fast asleep, making her considerably harder to carry.
With gritted teeth, Roy Thompson managed to bring Bianca, half-carrying and half-dragging her, step by step towards Oliver Thompson. Oliver Thompson’s heart raced with anxiety at every step Roy took. His grip on the pistol trigger stiffened, and his peripheral vision was locked onto the two small figures, his body tensed up, the movement pulling at the wound in his chest. He struggled even to control his own breath.
Still, he reminded himself to persist in his heart.
Julia Harrison, sitting by his side, blankly watched Oliver Thompson. She had never seen him holding a gun before. His focused and meticulous bearing was a sight that stung her eyes. She always thought men who could handle guns were attractive!
A man’s physical strength, his stylish movements, especially when donned in a black trench coat, were likened to the presence of a god. That’s how he became the man of her dreams. That’s why she bothered Oliver Thompson countless times to teach her how to shoot. He flat-out refused without considering it, saying that all she needed to be was a woman, to love her husband, and that handling a gun was a man’s job, not something she should worry about!
Later, she couldn’t win against him, so all she could do was compromise. She moved from wanting to learn how to shoot, to compromise, just wanting to see him handle a gun gracefully. But even this compromise couldn’t fulfill her wish. A man with a gun was something she could only imagine or see in TV series.
What she didn’t expect was that one day she would get to see him hold a gun, but it happened under these circumstances. She thought that if she knew that seeing him handle a gun would be like this, she would rather have her wish unfulfilled forever.
"Wait for mom at the cave entrance while carrying Bianca!"
Seeing that Roy Thompson was getting closer step by step while holding Bianca, Oliver Thompson finally gave him a reminder.
"Okay, dad!"
With a bit of huffing and puffing, Roy Thompson took Bianca and moved directly to the exit without uttering any nonsense. At this moment, all he could do was ensure that he wasn’t a liability while his father saved his mother!
Only after seeing that the two little figures had completely exited his field of vision did Oliver Thompson let his guard down, then readjusted his grip on the gun.
"You have your people now, where is my blood diamond?"
Seeing that the two little figures have vanished from sight and yet Oliver Thompson showed no signs of handing over the diamond, Harvey Dunn’s face turned sour. His hesitation grew and he tightened his tone, a hint of tension now laced his voice, "Don’t try any tricks, your wife is still in my possession. I can kill her with just a squeeze of the trigger!"
Having said that, the gun originally pointing at Oliver Thompson was suddenly aimed at Julia Harrison’s head.
"I didn’t say I wouldn’t give it to you, why are you in such a rush?"
As he spoke, Oliver Thompson pulled out a box, flicked it open with his thumb, and then teased at the contents inside for Dunn to see. A large, glaring blood diamond lay inside which Harvey Dunn was able to see clearly.
"Throw it over now!"
"Easy there, I’ll give it to you, but let’s discuss my wife’s situation first!"
With a snap of his fingers, the box with the blood diamond was shut close. Oliver Thompson toyed with the box in his hand, gun in the other. His eyes then drifted to Julia Harrison who was slumped on the ground. His gaze met hers, "Julia, if I accidentally die, can you forgive me?"
This sudden confession gave everyone a shock!
No one expected such a heartfelt plea for forgiveness in this tense atmosphere!
Harvey Dunn’s mouth hung open, ready to urge Oliver Thompson yet still taken aback. Amanda Foster, her eyes glued to Oliver Thompon’s handsome face, was unconsciously so excited she had to cover her mouth. She never expected that Oliver Thompson was putting his life on the line to press the woman, whom he supposedly didn’t love yet clearly did, for an answer!
As their eyes locked, Julia Harrison’s already red and swollen eyes welled up with tears. Her heart sunk little by little. Her gaze slowly traveled down his defined facial features till it rested upon his chest. Her trembling lips attempted to utter her response several times till she finally managed to get the words out, "No, I can’t forgive you..."
A pang of disappointment hit Oliver Thompson. He stared at her picturesque face, and his eyes gradually darkened. As he had expected, there was no chance for them to reconcile after that night!
Just as Oliver Thompson was about to tear his gaze away from Julia Harrison’s face, feeling disillusioned, a raspy voice streaked with blood echoed out, stressing each word deliberately, "If...you’re dead, would you need my forgiveness? If... you want me to forgive you, first and foremost, you... must survive!"
Julia Harrison, as if it wasn’t enough, after finishing her sentence, she emphasized again the phrase – to survive!
If you want me to forgive you, first and foremost, you must survive!
Wait a minute...and what about the sentence before that?
When you’re dead, do you still need my forgiveness?
Oliver Thompson’s eyes brightened up, his whole person appeared as though reborn from hell’s depths, filled with excitement and joy. Subconsciously he uttered in disbelief, "Are you saying, as long as I’m alive, you can forgive me?!!"
The words "forgive me" were emphasized due to his excitement.
"Yeah, as long as you’re alive, I’ll forgive you!"
For a moment, he couldn’t even believe what he heard was real. Only when he heard her raspy voice again did he realize it wasn’t his imagination. After waiting for so long, he finally received her forgiveness.
