Chapter 513: Chapter 492: What’s the matter? Feeling nervous now?
Her heart seemed to have been plucked out of her body by an invisible hand. There was a hollow feeling in her chest, that even the breeze couldn’t fill. It left her feeling unnaturally empty, as if she were drowning.
"Amanda Foster, what on earth is going on? You need to explain everything to me!"
As Julie Harrison spoke, her body shook uncontrollably. The sound of her voice, strained and choked with emotion, seemed as though it was being torn from her. "What are you talking about? Why would I want him to die? Didn’t his assistant say he was on a business trip? What the hell is going on? Explain everything to me!"
Her instincts told her that this woman knew exactly what was happening.
"So, you’re panicking now?"
Seeing Julie’s breakdown, Amanda’s smile grew deeper. She relished in Julie’s loss of control, her mental instability. A cold, triumphant smirk flickered across her lips. She enjoyed it all while Julie was too rattled by the news to pay attention.
"Speak clearly!"
"Fine!" Amanda responded, walking towards Julie. She bore her gaze into her, a swift and cold grin passing over her face before asking, "Do you want to save him?"
Do you want to save her?
That phrase echoed back and forth in Julie’s mind. She had never wanted him to die, so...
Wait...
That question... wasn’t it supposed to be asked by her?
Just as she was about to utter those words, she caught herself. She took a deep breath and forced herself to remain level-headed. She looked at Amanda and asked, "Why should I be the one to save him? Didn’t you claim that he was in love with you?"
"But you love him!" Amanda retorted instantly, leaving her without a valid counterargument.
"I don’t love him anymore!"
Julie merely glanced at her, feeling that Amanda was using some sort of dirty trick. "Aren’t you aware that I’m divorcing him? Why should I rescue someone who’s in love with his enemy? Amanda, don’t stoop too low with these tricks. If he were really about to die, why are you here? When we got married, didn’t you say you’d rather be buried with him if you couldn’t marry him in this lifetime? Why are you here looking for me now that he’s really about to die? Are you selflessly offering me the martyr’s position?"
She almost fell for Amanda’s tricks.
Oliver should be with Michael and Jaysen. If anything happened to him, she should have been informed or warned by them. Why should Amanda be the one to do so?
She almost got scared.
"Fine, you seem heartless. If I could save him and make him change his stubborn ways, I wouldn’t bother looking for you!"
Amanda could tell that Julie’s thoughts were shifting, but she knew Julie was in the middle of an internal battle. She had always won in their conflicts since they were young, since she always had men on her side. But she wasn’t so sure this time.
Because the men no longer stood by her side.
"What do you mean?"
"He told you he wanted a divorce because you couldn’t forgive him for ruining the Harrison family for me. So..."
"What does that have to do with him dying?"
Julie fleetingly recalled Michael’s words. He said he did go abroad, but not for a business trip. She remembered too the words he whispered when he passionately pursued her.
He said, "Rosella, I’ll make it up to you, I promise. Once I settle everything, if you still want me, could you take me back?"
There was more he said, all along similar lines. But she didn’t pay attention to his words at the time. Men’s words in bed were unreliable. Besides, her emotions were too complicated at the time to focus on his words.
She initially thought his passionate pursuits were just sentimental words. It was only when Amanda mentioned this that she began to think deeply about it.
During their last conversation, Oliver also told her that he would take her home when he returned.
"Because he went to retrieve the Blood Diamond for you!"
Amanda sternly stared at her, then flipped to a picture on her phone. "I don’t think anyone will know better than you the significance of this picture. If you retrieve it, your family’s wealth will be restored!"
Julie stared intensely at the photo of the legendary Blood Diamond that Amanda held in her hand. She wasn’t clear on how the Harrison family got their hands on the Blood Diamond, but there was a fascinating legend behind it. According to the story, the diamond was tainted with blood, giving it a mystical aura. It was said to be able to predict good and bad fortune. But these were just legends; she had never seen it herself.
She had stolen the diamond from her father’s safe when she was just 15, in an attempt to save Oliver, who had made a costly mistake. At the time, she knew nothing about the value of the diamond, thinking only of its vaunted mystical powers. It was when her father found out and erupted in a fit of rage that she realized its importance.
Many years had passed, and she had been looking for the diamond tirelessly. But the people who dealt in ill-gotten gains had vanished, especially when Oliver came into power. The whereabouts of the diamond remained a mystery. It was the only thing her father regretted not finding before his death.
She lost the diamond, a loss she felt more keenly than anyone else. But where it was being circulated was far beyond her reach.
Later, she heard that a man involved in dirty dealings had the diamond. But that man had harmed too many lives, he was even wanted by Interpol. However, there was no trace of him.
That was the last she’d heard about the Blood Diamond.
But now Amanda was telling her that Oliver had gone to find the murderer who lurked in the dark and dealt in human lives?
Her heart clenched painfully, as though it was being constricted. For a moment, she felt as though she was suffocating.
"Where is he?"
"South Africa!"
Amanda quickly answered with two words. "Oliver has been there for quite some time. They encountered some problems. Mr. Gordon and Mr. Smith even went there, but those people insisted that without a member of the Harrison family, the diamond would not be handed over. A fight broke out. As for the specifics, I’m not sure, and I can’t get through to anyone over the phone."
