Chapter 483: Chapter 462: Roy Told Me!

Before leaving, Oliver Thompson had called him. He didn’t say anything, but Michael Gordon knew that this wasn’t about going on a mission, but rather removing the last barrier between them. Therefore, when he heard what Julie Harrison was saying, he felt like this silly woman might have fallen for whatever game was being played.

"Roy told me!"

Upon hearing this, Julie paused for a moment, then asked, "Didn’t he go on a mission? His assistant told Roy that he personally went abroad for a mission!"

"He did go abroad, but not for a mission!"

Michael’s pupils constricted slightly. He could tell that the woman was worried. He was reminded of the time Oliver had called him and asked him to take care of his woman. Michael had wanted to tell her then, but he couldn’t. What Oliver was doing was much more dangerous than a run-of-the-mill mission.

"Then why can’t I suddenly reach him by phone, and even Lucas Sandy can’t find him?"

Julie’s tone was a bit rushed, almost sounding accusatory. Realizing her tone, she quickly apologized, "I’m sorry, I’m just a bit worried. I shouldn’t ask you like this, I just want to know..."

"You just want to know if he’ll be in danger, right?"

Before Julie could finish her sentence, Michael cut her off, "Julie, are you worried about him?"

Since he couldn’t tell her what Oliver was doing, he might as well help his brother win his woman’s heart. Mr. Gordon thought it was a good thing. People often only feel fear for loss when they’re about to lose something, realizing what they truly care about!

Take Mario Jensen for example!

It wasn’t until Lina Miller suddenly disappeared without a trace in front of him that he realized who he was in love with!

After all, not many are as clear about who they love as he is!

"I... I’m not worried about him. Why would I worry about him?" Upon hearing Michael’s counter-question, Julie instinctively countered. Only she knew how guilty she felt, "I just..."

"Whether or not you’re worried about him has nothing to do with me, nor do I want to know why you’d be worried about him. As the bystander to your story, I’ve already said what I need to say. Whatever else doesn’t concern me!"

Michael made no attempt to be discreet on the call. Almost everyone present knew about Julie Harrison and Oliver Thompson’s story, so there was nothing he needed to hide.

When the woman on the other end of the line heard him say this, she was obviously taken aback. Michael then added, "Also, before your man went abroad, he called me, asking me to take good care of his wife. He’ll personally take her back when he returns. Do you understand what I mean by this?"

Understood! How could she not understand?

What’s the use of taking her back?

"That’s for later. If you can confirm he’s safe now, we’ll discuss other matters later!"

She was indeed terrified today. Roy would report to his dad daily about the circumstances here. She understood what that man intended. Since he wanted to do it, and she couldn’t stop him, she let him be.

But she never expected that one day, Roy would tell her that he couldn’t reach his father by phone. Once or twice might be due to a dead phone, but it had been two days and still no sign. Having been married to Oliver Thompson for seven years, she knew his lifestyle habits like the back of her hand.

Never turning off his phone was his first lifestyle habit. It was related to his work nature. He would answer any call at any time, no matter what he was doing. As long as he was alive, he would answer his phone promptly.

So when she heard her son say that he couldn’t reach him for a full two days, she panicked for a moment. The word ’death’ seemed to hang over her, yet she found that it was not what she wanted at all!

In that moment of panic, she even absurdly thought that as long as he was alive, they wouldn’t need to divorce. They could torture each other for a lifetime, but at least he would still be alive!

"Confirm safety?"

Julie was stunned for a moment, when Michael Gordon’s lazy voice on the other end of the phone came through, with a hint of mockery, "I really can’t confirm his safety, but based on his abilities, he should be able to keep himself alive. It shouldn’t be a big problem!"

Should be able to keep himself alive, not a big problem?

This sentence seemed to explode in Julie’s mind, startling her. Her voice, which had just relaxed, instantly tensed up, "What do you mean?"

"Take it literally!"

Michael wasn’t trying to scare her, but rather he was genuinely unsure. If that man could call him personally before his departure, and even say things like ’take care of my wife’, then it means the matters at hand aren’t as simple as he’d initially thought.

"What does ’literally’ mean?"

Julie seemed to instantly retort without thinking. It wasn’t that she didn’t understand the literal meaning, but that she didn’t dare to think about it.

"Literally, it probably means a one in ten chance of survival," Michael Gordon pinched his brow, his deep voice carrying a trace of laziness. However, it still didn’t give away the true intention of his clear words, "But rest assured, since he instructed me to take care of you before he left, I won’t let his opponents harm you. So, on this point, you can rest assured!"

"You know, that’s not what I mean!"

The woman on the other end of the phone nearly yelled out without thinking. The sobbing sound in her trembling voice was only discernible to the keen listener.

The woman’s emotions were obviously not calm. Michael didn’t provoke her further, instead he got straight to the point: "Hmm, so what did you mean in calling me? Is it that you want me to come back? Or is it that you want me to inquire about Oliver Thompson’s current situation?"

After he spoke, the person on the other end of the line was silent for a long while before she finally spoke up softly, "If you have time, please help check on him. Apart from his assistant and Roy saying that he went for a personal mission, no one else knows anything. Roy is very worried, he doesn’t want to go to school these days, and he isn’t eating well, I..."

"You don’t need to explain, I understand. Just stay at home and take good care of my beloved daughter!"

A woman using her son as an excuse to worry about her man, is nothing more than an inability to let go of the resentment left from her past life. Since this was the case, Michael didn’t expose her and simply hung up after saying his piece.

In that instant he hung up the call, he felt a certain heaviness. The numerous calls he received during these two days gave him an ominous feeling.
