Chapter 419: Chapter 398: Giving birth to a child, you can’t force that, right?
The woman’s voice sounded full of apologies, but the hint of smugness was very apparent if carefully savoured. Her calm voice filled with bold confidence indeed resembled the attitude one would expect from a victor.
Ha!
"Whether we care or not, I don’t believe we need Miss Foster to tell us. There’s a fitting saying about how even the most beautiful love loses its moral standing if it’s used to blatantly interfere as the third party in someone else’s relationship."
The strength of Julie Harrison’s grip on her phone tightened incrementally, her voice laced with scornful laughter. Contrary to Amanda Foster’s expectation, she did not angrily hang up the phone. Her first impression was that this woman had changed!
You knew it just by listening to her voice!
Her anger was no longer subdued as it used to be, but there was now a hint of carefree confidence!
Was this change in attitude related to Oliver Thompson’s recent change in demeanor?
"It seems like it’s me who should say those words, Miss Harrison!" Amanda Foster’s haughty voice came through the receiver. Despite Julie Harrison’s accusatory onslaught, there was no significant change in her voice. "I’ve been with Oliver since we were kids. We’re each other’s first love and the only love in this lifetime. You, Julie Harrison, forced him to marry you, and you were the one who broke us up. Why has it suddenly become me who is the third party? Could it be that your brain has rusted now that the Harrison Family has fallen?"
The woman’s outrageous laughter echoed in Julie Harrison’s ears, turning into a ridiculous joke. Normally, she would have admitted defeat, avoid if she could not afford it, because after all, he was still the one whose names were in the same household register with her.
The one she cared about was still near her, which made others seem so unimportant!
But now, she somewhat felt unwilling to admit defeat, because she had nothing to lose. The man she had always wanted was no longer of interest!
"It’s possible!" Julie Harrison responded, one hand holding the phone and the other reaching for the hot milk Roy Thompson had prepared for her. She spoke while drinking. Recently, she had been feeling unwell, and her son had been incredibly considerate. He hadn’t understood anything a year ago, but now he had begun to take care of her.
It brought consolation to Julie Harrison, and with that solace came a newfound boldness to confront this woman and to settle old scores.
"Even though I coerced him into marrying me, to give up one’s beloved because of a woman’s’ coercion, you two’s so-called love doesn’t seem that grand, does it?"
Julie Harrison held onto her cup of milk as she drank slowly. "Indeed, I did force him to marry me. But even if he had staunchly refused, could I have held a gun to his head, forced him into a church, and demanded he consummate the marriage? Even if all that was possible, it’s not like you can force someone to have a child. Can I really force him to get an erection?"
Upon hearing this, Julie Harrison could clearly hear the woman on the other end of the line drawing a deep breath, but she did not immediately refute her words. Instead, she was gasping for air frantically, causing Julie to imagine just how angry the woman must be. Even without looking, Julie knew that the woman must be seething, and the thought of it was satisfying.
She had witnessed this scene a number of times, especially when Oliver Thompson was with her recently!
He would naturally act as outraged as he could, hoping to be so angered that he would end up in the hospital. Then Oliver Thompson would have to go to her, wouldn’t he?
In the past, Julie had been taken advantage of by this manipulative woman and berated numerous times by Oliver Thompson. But now she was no longer afraid, because her purpose in calling was to have him finalize the divorce procedures before rolling into someone else’s bed.
"Julie Harrison, have you no shame? The fact that Oliver was able to have a child with you, isn’t it because you used manipulative measures to climb into his bed? Any man would have physiological needs!"
After a bout of laboured breathing, the woman at the other end of the line seemed somewhat unsettled. Her voice had lost some of its composure. "Don’t mistake a man’s fulfillment of physiological needs for love. His love has always been mine. Be sensible, I advise you to get a divorce early and keep away from him. Your disappearance is precisely because you don’t want to get a divorce, isn’t it? You’re just keeping him hanging!"
Doesn’t want a divorce?
And keeping him hanging?
"It seems that your relationship isn’t as good as in the rumours, otherwise, how could I just hold him back, and he doesn’t even want to divorce? A third party like you who can’t even properly break up others’ marriage is not a qualified mistress!"
Julie Harrison said with a gentle laugh. But the feeling of confusion in her heart was getting stronger. Clearly, it was Oliver Thompson who didn’t want to divorce, but in Amanda Foster’s eyes, it was her who did not want to divorce, which meant that Oliver Thompson hadn’t told the woman about the problems between them!
And now...
He was keeping her in Michael Gordon’s house, like a divorced wife, and regularly giving her living expenses. He also left the child to her. Was this a sort of compensation for causing the downfall of the Harrison family by his hands?
Suddenly, Julie Harrison found it quite amusing. His wife was kept outside while his mistress stayed at home. The situation had reversed, and she just hadn’t adapted yet.
"Julie Harrison, watch your tongue; say ’third party’ one more time. He had liked me from the very beginning. I’m not the third party; if anyone is the ’third...’"
Before she could finish the last word, the door was flung open with a loud thud. A man with a gloomy face walked in from outside, his Ice-cold gaze intently fixed upon her, an aura of cold air surrounding his black trench coat.
Amanda Foster was stunned, her eyes wide open, her words stuck in her mouth as she stared in disbelief at Oliver Thompson. Utilising his hatred for the Harrison family and his trust in her, she manipulated his subordinates, attacked the Harrison family, snatched the Harrison family’s wealth and let Julie Harrison discover the truth.
Upon knowing the truth, that woman had a fit of madness and was locked up at home by Oliver Thompson. Never did they expect that one day, she would escape. From then on, Oliver Thompson appeared to have transformed into a different person. As a result, the company that had only been recently snatched returned to the hands of the Thompson family. She was left with no choice but housing herself in a poor ghetto neighborhood.
He visited her once every few hours, leaving a phone behind during one of those times. ’Leaving behind’ would be an inaccurate term, considering she actually stole it. Although he had been cruel to her, he hadn’t completely written her off out of respect for her late mother.
This led to her gaining a bit of courage.
She stole his phone, wanting to find what she was looking for. But just as she was going through the phone’s contents, Julie Harrison’s call came through. The moment she was confronted with that woman, she lost her temper. Before she could even react or carry out her initial intentions, Oliver Thompson appeared in front of her.
His frighteningly relentless stare was so foreign it caused an involuntary tremble to course through her. A bone-chilling sensation coursed through her body. Fear silently began to spread throughout her body. Amanda Foster handed him the phone, which was still in call, in a trembling hand.
