Chapter 404: Chapter 383: Wife, will you marry me?

Ironically, she wasn’t really fond of roses; to her, she loved the purity of lilies more than the enchanting beauty of roses. Michael Gordon had always known that!

So, the woman who could make him plant an entire rose garden must not be her!

This speculation made Ivy Aretha feel inexplicably uncomfortable, even though she knew she had no right to blame his past. She had lost the qualification to do so ever since she accepted him!

"Actually, I don’t really like roses. On the contrary, I like lilies just like you do!"

Michael Gordon chuckled gently as he held her hand and carefully walked along the gravel road in the garden. Under the dim lights in the garden, he could see the usually cheerful smile on her face was somewhat forced, and he instantly realized she must have been thinking about things she shouldn’t be thinking about.

"If you like lilies, why did you plant a whole garden of flaming red roses?"

If they were just for appreciation, there were many more beautiful flowers than roses. Moreover, it was somewhat extravagant to plant only one type of flower in such a large garden solely for aesthetic purposes!

Michael Gordon suddenly stopped walking, turned to look at her deeply, and then spoke with emphasis, "It’s all because of you!"

"The only person who can make me, Michael Gordon, do anything is you in this lifetime. As for why, you don’t need to ask!" He pulled the surprised woman into his arms, kissed her deeply amidst the blooming roses, "Because I don’t know either. I probably fell under a spell!"

He was born an indifferent person, yet he was deeply devoted to her. He always thought women should be like clothes - indispensable, but to be changed regularly. However, ever since he laid eyes on her, he felt that wearing this piece of clothing gave him the best mood, making him look the most handsome!

Although this "clothing" was not the most expensive and not the most admired by others, once he put it on, he just couldn’t bear to change it!

Even if others said it didn’t fit, he still felt he looked dashing!

"But I don’t really like roses, do I? You just said that we both like lilies. If you did it for me, why not plant the lilies that you like?"

Wouldn’t that be the most appropriate and best solution to please both?

"Wife, have you ever seen a man who, after planting a garden full of lilies for the woman he loves, is still able to grow old together?" Michael Gordon looked at her with a somewhat amused expression, a hint of melancholy and self-mockery lurking in the corners of his smile.

He could feel her body stiffening in his arms, and even her signature clear, big eyes widened, staring at him with a puzzled look that soon transformed into understanding.

Ivy Aretha’s mind raced through every love story involving lilies, and the most familiar one was the story of Inka Cooper from the affluent family, the girl who walked amid lilies. She once received a man’s deepest and most passionate love. She was born and lived like a lily, pure and intellectual, and her life being gentle and plain. However, she never bloomed like a blood-soaked rose, instead, she chose to embrace what she once had.

"Do you think it’s inauspicious?"

Ivy Aretha vaguely speculated, her heartbeat getting heavier.

"It’s not entirely that!" Michael Gordon hugged her slender waist with his big hand, caressing her lower abdomen gently, "Don’t they say that a woman who has never received roses is an incomplete woman? I think I’ve never given you any roses since we met!"

Ivy Aretha: "..."

So, is this considered giving her roses?

Ivy Aretha imagined millions of possibilities but never thought of such a simple, almost unreasoning reason!

"Flowers, rings, wedding dresses - everything other women have, the wife of Michael Gordon shouldn’t be without, right?!"

He hugged her tightly, gently kissing the back of her neck as his hot breath shimmered under the moonlight, giving the couple an enchanting aura, "I began building this rose garden right after I returned from that business trip to Andara Ancient Town. It was completed the day before you moved in, and it has been well-maintained ever since. Now is the most beautiful blooming time, and I always wanted to find the right opportunity. I never thought I’d get such a big surprise from heaven: we’re having another child!"

Michael Gordon spoke in a nonchalant manner, as if recounting the most mundane event, but it stirred up enormous waves in Ivy Aretha’s heart: "You mean that you planted this rose garden when we returned from Andara Ancient Town?"

In Ivy Aretha’s mind, it wasn’t about the flowers, but the timing of planting them!

He discovered Bianca and her having a child during their visit to Andara Ancient Town. From that moment, she became a woman who had borne a child for another man in his eyes!

Most men wouldn’t accept that kind of woman, let alone a man like Michael Gordon who stood at the top of the pyramid. That’s why, when Zach Gilbert exposed Bianca’s true identity, her solution was to marry any random man, giving Bianca an undisturbed family environment.

She never thought about seeking help from Bianca’s biological father because she didn’t think she deserved the man in front of her. Yet, he did something to silently accept her as a woman who had had a child with another man!

This revelation was more than just a little shocking for Ivy Aretha!

Compared to her shock, Michael Gordon simply nodded slightly: "Yes, I do love you, Ivy!"

"But back then, I was a woman who had had a child for someone else..."

"So what?" Ivy’s words were cut off by Michael with a gentle chuckle. The teasing sound was full of laughter, with a tinge of seductive charm lingering in her ears, "There’s a kind of love where, even though you know she’s not worthy of you, you can’t stop yourself from being attracted to her. I struggled, I was jealous - after all, I never had any other woman, but you had a child with another man. But after all that, I still wanted to have you!"

"Even if you’ve had a child with another man, I still hope you can have one with me. Fortunate for me, the father of the child you’ve borne has always been me!"

"Michael..."

Ivy Aretha no longer knew what her mood was like. The tingling sensation on the tip of her heart was as if it had been infused with poison, making her entire heart become filled with an addictive toxin called Michael Gordon!

"I’ve already prepared the wedding dress, and it will be delivered next week. The wedding date has been set for the end of next month, and I’ve brought you the roses!" Michael Gordon bowed his head and gently caressed her slender fingers. The next moment, a large "pigeon egg" diamond ring appeared on Ivy’s finger, "I’ve also put the ring on for you, and the guests have been invited. Wife, will you marry me? I promise to treat you well for the rest of my life!"

Ivy Aretha: "..."

He already called her his wife - doesn’t that mean she’s already married to him?
