Chapter 375: Chapter 354: As long as the child is fine, I’m fine
The attending doctor staying in the operating room stared at Mrs. Jensen with wide eyes, never daring to believe that the woman before him was the same one who had rushed in earlier, demanding to know who would dare harm her grandson!
Or was it now fashionable for mothers-in-law to treat their daughters-in-law as their own daughters?
With a thud, the door to the operating room was burst open again.
"You can’t even save one child. Are you sure you’re all professionals?"
After a cold and disdainful voice, a man swiftly entered while putting on his gloves. He scanned the busy doctors and said, "I don’t know why Mr. Gordon pays you so much. You, you stay, the rest of you get out!"
The doctors looked at Fabian Nala and Mrs. Jensen with no intention of leaving, as Mr. Gordon had instructed them to listen only to Young Master Jensen.
"Listen to Dr. Sandy, all of you get out of here!"
Fabian Nala spoke, and upon seeing Lucas Sandy, he finally breathed a sigh of relief. He had witnessed the man’s medical skills firsthand. Urging his mother, he said, "Mom, you go out too!"
At this, Mrs. Jensen looked up and down at Lucas Sandy, her gaze filled with a hint of curiosity. If this man was the divine doctor who could bring the dead back to life, he was quite young!
Approaching the door of the operating room, she turned back with lingering concern and said, "It’s not just the child we want, but the adult as well. They’re what’s most important!"
Mrs. Jensen felt this reminder was necessary since the man had only mentioned being unable to save the child without mentioning the mother’s safety. At times like this, the adult was undoubtedly more important. As a woman herself, Mrs. Jensen understood that giving birth was tantamount to stepping into a coffin, so she knew what was most crucial at this moment!
"Mrs. Jensen, rest assured, I’ll keep both the mother and child safe!"
Even as cold and proud as he was, Lucas Sandy still greeted Mrs. Jensen politely, being an elder. He then glanced at the semi-conscious woman on the operating table and asked Fabian Nala, "Is Mrs. Jensen resistant to anesthesia?"
At a glance, it was clear that she was!
"A little!"
Lina Miller had a high resistance to anesthesia, so every time she was injured or undergoing something, she would suffer more than others. As a result, Fabian Nala watched her very closely, fearing accidents or unexpected misfortunes.
Lucas Sandy gave him a stern look and said, "If it’s just a little, then you better watch her closely. She might not be able to stand the pain later!"
"Alright!"
At this moment, Fabian Nala naturally followed instructions. Lina Miller had slipped into a semi-conscious state, but as the surgery began, the pain would likely wake her!
"Give her a fetal protection injection and then quickly prepare for a Cesarean!"
At his command, the surgery began. Lina Miller, who had been struggling with pain and exhaustion, was suddenly jolted awake by the sharp pain when the scalpel fell. The pain of having her abdomen cut open by a blade was far more unbearable and heart-wrenching than the pain from her previous early labor contractions. It felt as if she were committing seppuku!
Lina clenched her teeth and bit heavily on her own lips. Her lips were bitten open, with blood dripping down one drop at a time. Sweat beads formed on her forehead so quickly, it seemed like all the water in her body was being drained at once, soaking the pillow beneath her head. Lina’s head looked like it had been pulled out of the water!
Fabian Nala’s heart felt like it had been stabbed with a knife and twisted, causing him so much pain that he couldn’t straighten his body. Desperately, he tried to steady his trembling body and then, on instinct, pried open Lina’s mouth and placed his wrist near it.
"Lina, let’s bear with it for a while longer. It’ll be over soon!"
"I’m sorry, Lina. I didn’t protect you well enough. I’m sorry!"
Fabian Nala, helpless and distraught, stared at her, anxious and aching, unable to figure out what was the right thing to do. All he could do was whisper comforting words in her ear, but even then, he was too nervous to find the right words to say.
What he said was pale and insignificant, but when a person was under extreme tension, no words could accurately convey their thoughts and emotions.
"How could you be so dumb? You should be saying sweet, romantic words to distract her. What’s the use of saying useless ghost-talk at a time like this?"
Lucas Sandy, even as the surgeon, could not bear to listen any longer. This was no way to reassure a woman!
It was even worse than his own inadequacy in reassurance!
"Oh!" At the limit of his nerves, Fabian Nala’s brain could not spare any room for thought. He followed Lucas’s lead, saying "Oh," then asked, "So, what should I say?"
"Say romantic nonsense! Say, ’I love you’!"
Lucas Sandy was appalled at Fabian Nala’s stupidity. Women loved hearing pleasant words, so why was he so dense-headed? No wonder he had lost to Michael Gordon in the battle for Lina Miller’s heart. The self-taught love expert could effortlessly woo a woman with romantic words. Losing to him was just normal.
But who would have thought that Fabian Nala would be so obtuse that he couldn’t even say "I love you" and instead apologized?!
"Lina, I..."
Staring at his wife on the brink of death on the operating table, such inappropriate words couldn’t simply be spoken on a whim. Spontaneous romantic words were called affectionate expressions, and saying them just for the sake of it was irresponsible!
Seeing Fabian Nala looking serious, furrowed browed, and seeming to struggle with wanting to say something but unable to, Lina took a shallow breath and shook her head, signaling him not to say anything. She then nodded, indicating she understood.
She and Fabian Nala had lived together for nearly eight years, and even though they were only recently married and hadn’t even held a wedding yet, their understanding of each other had grown as if they were one person. She knew his personality inside out after so many years of being by his side!
He could say things like, "If you leave, my heart will also be gone, and I won’t be able to live." She understood that he cared for her deeply, and that was enough!
"As long as the... child is fine, I’ll be fine..."
Lina’s hoarse voice squeezed weakly out of her throat, her frail breath as if it were fighting to escape. It was heart-stoppingly terrifying just to listen to, so Fabian Nala quickly covered her mouth, preventing her from speaking further.
He then wiped the incessant sweat beads from her forehead with a sterile towel. Thinking of the words she had just said about their child, Fabian Nala couldn’t help but say, "Lina, the baby will be fine. Don’t talk. I suddenly remembered that I have come up with a few names for the baby. Would you like to listen and tell me what you think?"
Lina’s eyes brightened, and she nodded!
"If it’s a boy, there’s a saying that a gentleman is like ink. So, how about naming him Morgan Jensen?"
Although he asked for her opinion, Fabian Nala didn’t want Lina to speak. "You don’t have to say anything. Just nod if you agree. Remember, I spent several months thinking of this name!"
He spent several months thinking of the name?!
Lina almost laughed at his words – did he really need several months to come up with the name Morgan Jensen, from the saying "a gentleman is like ink"?
Trying to cheer someone up did not work like this, but it was indeed comforting!
Lina blinked in approval, and the pain in her abdomen seemed to lessen considerably!
