Chapter 369: Chapter 348: I’ll listen to you, and you’ll take charge in the future
"Mom didn’t even stab you with a knife, so how did you get hurt, Dad?"
Roy asked very seriously.
"Because Dad stabbed himself!" Oliver’s voice carried a self-mocking chuckle, even through the thick door panel. Julia could hear the tone in his voice and the grimace on his face as he said it.
"Why?"
"Your mom doesn’t want Dad anymore, so Dad doesn’t want to live. He wants to die and end it all!"
The absurd way the father and son spoke made Julia’s heart clench. She instinctively pushed the door open and entered, "Oliver Thompson, what nonsense are you telling your child? Do you want to make Roy grow up too early?"
These days, looking after Bianca Aretha had made her cry several times because the little girl acted so grown-up!
In Julia’s world, children should live a carefree life!
Roy had just said that his mom hated his dad so much that she grabbed a knife to stab him, and that had astounded and horrified her. Now this man was speaking such nonsense, saying she didn’t want him and wanted to die, which would make their son worry even more!
Maybe Roy thought he would be left an orphan!
"Am I not telling the truth?" The man leaned against the bed with a pale face, still wearing his blood-stained sweater from yesterday. He squinted at her while Roy held a wash basin filled with water and carefully squeezed a towel. Roy stared at her with his round eyes but couldn’t say a word for a long time.
In just half a year, Julia felt that her son was becoming distant from her!
"Or are you going to tell me that you’re not planning on leaving us? Not divorcing me? Not fighting me for Roy?"
It seemed that Oliver had no intention of letting her go, and he didn’t care that his son was present. In his mind, boys should be raised to stand tall and strong from a young age, unlike girls who were nurtured behind closed doors.
When divorce was mentioned, Roy’s small frame stiffened, and his grip on the towel slackened. The towel fell to the floor, and the next moment, he ran over to Julia and clung to her leg. In a tearful plea, he said, "Mom, please, don’t divorce Dad, he won’t be able to live, I don’t want Dad to die, I want Dad and Mom, and I want our family to be together forever, like little sister and Uncle Gordon!"
Julia could only feel a damp sensation on her legs as her son clung to her. Her heart seemed to constrict, and she felt immense pain, making it difficult to breathe.
"Roy, Dad’s just kidding. Mom would never divorce Dad. Please don’t cry!"
Julia gently wiped away Roy’s tears and kissed his forehead, "Boys shouldn’t cry so easily. See, your little sister doesn’t cry, and if you keep crying, she’ll make fun of you!"
"Little sister doesn’t cry because Uncle Gordon and Auntie Gordon don’t argue and have a loving relationship!"
Roy almost instantly retorted, leaving Julia speechless!
She had to admit that Bianca’s strength and maturity stemmed from her single-parent life during the past five years. But now, her well-behaved and understanding demeanor was truly the result of the efforts made by Michael Gordon and Ivy Aretha.
"Alright, it’s mom’s fault. Mom will change later!"
Seeing her son’s innocent red eyes, Julia’s heart ached as if it were being wrung out, "Go be with your sister for now, and Mom will help Dad wash up and join you for dinner soon!"
"I won’t leave. I want to take care of Dad since he is injured!"
Roy shook his head resolutely, like the little boy he was. Julia couldn’t help but feel more pain, knowing how fearful he was that she would end up doing something to hurt his father.
His earlier words about her hating him had made her realize that her six-year-old understood more than she thought!
Nevermind!
If he doesn’t trust her, let him stay and keep an eye on things, just so he won’t worry and overthink!
"Okay!" Julia kissed her son’s forehead, "You stand here and watch, Mom will take care of Dad. Roy is still young and can only take care of his sister, not adults."
As she spoke, Julia carried Roy to the sofa and seated him not far from the bed. She then walked to Oliver’s bedside, fetched the towel from the basin, wrung it dry, and wiped Oliver’s face.
The man’s gaze never left her face, not even once. Julia was not a woman who would stand out at first glance, but she had the air of a wealthy heiress. It was no wonder that Mrs. Gordon, who had high demands for a nanny, had chosen her and no one else.
Many times, Oliver wondered how this woman, who only knew how to stay quietly at home painting and cooking, could take his heart away so completely that he was unable to find redemption in his world of betrayal.
Isabella Foster, his predestined bride, was beautiful, capable, and superior in every aspect - whether it was emotions, background, or even the skill to take a man away. She was by far the better choice!
But somehow, he had fallen for this simple, unassuming woman, who only knew how to paint and cook at home! And he had fallen far and deep, to the point where he hardly recognized himself anymore. Even so, he wanted to keep going!
"You won’t divorce me?"
After a moment, Oliver looked up at her and quietly spoke in sync with her careful face-washing.
He could see that under their son’s watchful gaze, she was still as attentive to her duties as ever.
"Mhm!"
Julia only hummed in response, not directly answering his question. She finished washing his face and then took care of his wound, "From now on, I’ll do this sort of thing here, and the servants will do it at home. Don’t let my son do it!"
The thought of her six-year-old son having to serve his father saddened Julia.
"Alright, I’ll listen to you. You’ll do it from now on."
The man’s mood seemed to improve, and the hidden bitterness he had invested in his plan worked well, "Later, I’ll send someone to handle Roy’s transfer procedures and have him attend Bianca’s kindergarten for a while!"
"Why should he change schools when everything is fine?" It was not advisable for a child to switch schools frequently, as it forced them to readjust to new environments.
"Lucas Sandy said my injury needs three months of bed rest, or else it will leave residual effects. I don’t want you to have to take care of a cripple for the rest of your life!"
