Chapter 285: At least I don’t have to compete for favor with my son.
Bianca Aretha struggled to get out of Cathy’s arms as soon as she arrived at the ward, carrying the lunch box straight to Ivy Aretha’s hospital bed, excitedly wanting to climb onto it but was stopped by Michael Gordon.
Michael Gordon was afraid of scaring the child but couldn’t hide the truth from the clever little girl. Finally, after much thought by Cathy, Bianca was told that her mommy had only suffered a minor injury and would be fine after some rest, so the little girl didn’t take it too seriously and wanted to climb onto the hospital bed as soon as she saw it.
Ever since the last time they stayed overnight together in the hospital, the little girl had been especially fond of the large hospital bed, because it was the only time her daddy and mom would sleep with her!
"Daddy, I just want to sleep with mommy for a while, I won’t compete with you for her favor, what are you doing?" Bianca Aretha stared at the large hands Michael Gordon used to hold her down with her innocent, cute and enchanting big eyes; she felt her father had the potential to be a jealous husband.
Cathy stared incredulously at the little girl. Was she really using favoritism?
"Pfft!"
Oliver Thompson couldn’t help but burst out laughing. After maintaining a gloomy face since entering, it finally softened a bit. He glanced at Michael Gordon, and with a faintly mocking tone, said, "So this is how you appear in the eyes of your daughter? You must be very unloved to compete for favor!"
At these words, Michael Gordon just squinted his eyes at him: "Are you any more loved?"
His own wife hid from him around the world, and he had the nerve to say that Michael Gordon was unloved, at least when such a thing happened, his wife didn’t hide from him worldwide!
"At least I don’t have to compete for favor with my son!"
Oliver Thompson didn’t care about the mockery from Michael George, but looked at Cathy instead. He saw that the woman went over to pacify Bianca, who was upset at being stopped from climbing onto the hospital bed. Suddenly, his empty heart felt filled.
"You don’t even have a chance to compete for favor, right?"
Michael Gordon was determined to not let him off easily and utterly dismantled his argument while asking Cathy gracefully, "Isn’t that right, Mrs. Thompson?"
Upon hearing the words "Mrs. Thompson," Ivy Aretha’s mind went blank for a moment. She almost excitedly sat up from the hospital bed to scream, but the man beat her to it, pushing her back down and helping her adjust the bed.
"Honey, you’re practically on your deathbed, don’t be so agitated. I never said she was Mrs. Gordon. Why are you so worked up?"
Ivy Aretha: "..."
Couldn’t she just be curious for a moment?
"Is Cathy really Oliver Thompson’s wife?" Ivy Aretha stared wide-eyed at Michael Gordon’s questioning, then remembered to point at the man sitting on the sofa with crossed legs and a dark face, looking at the person in question, Cathy, "Cathy, is he really your husband?"
She recalled that Michael Gordon had once told her that Oliver Thompson’s wife was Corda City’s top socialite, and she even asked Michael Gordon at the time if he felt ashamed because he had only married a downtrodden orphan.
But how could such a woman become a nanny?
Ivy Aretha’s mind raced through all the scenes of her acquaintance with Cathy. The first time they met at the trading market, she picked Cathy immediately among the crowd, feeling that she needed to hire a cultured nanny to help raise Bianca.
At the time, she didn’t think much of it, but later she found out that besides cooking well, Cathy seemed utterly clueless about housework, even more so than her!
Moreover, Cathy had always been very tasteful, from accurately identifying the year of the red wine in their home to telling Bianca the exact production year of antique items Ava saw on a TV series.
At the time, she was amazed that nannies were so talented nowadays and thought she had found a treasure!
Little did she know that Cathy was not only Corda City’s top socialite and from a prestigious family in South City, but also the wife of the city’s number one man, Oliver Thompson!
Ivy Aretha stared at Cathy’s somewhat awkward yet apologetic face; without her reply, she actually already knew the answer!
"Julia, Mrs. Gordon is asking you a question!" Oliver Thompson stared steadily at Julia Harrison, his eyes deep and distant; as she showed no intention of explaining, his already gloomy face sank even further, and it took him a moment to speak through gritted teeth, "Tell her!"
She hadn’t even divorced yet and already dared to deny that she was Mrs. Thompson?! Truly rebellious!
He had thought it possible she came to Andras City but didn’t expect she would hide in the nanny market; were it not for the fact that she kidnapped Bianca this time, she probably would’ve continued hiding!
Oliver never expected her to go undercover in the nanny market and then be taken home by Ivy Aretha!
Just to avoid him, she had become a nanny for Michael Gordon’s wife!
Seeing her stubborn, unapologetic expression, Oliver’s voice became even colder as he said with both sarcasm and certainty, "Your name is still on my household register, whether you admit it or not, you are my wife!"
There was a subtle hint of emotion in Cathy’s gentle eyes as she held Bianca. She clenched her teeth and only after a while began to speak, answering both Oliver Thompson and Ivy Aretha’s questions, "I already said long ago, we have nothing to do with each other anymore!"
After saying that, she finally turned to look at the man on the sofa who was playing with his phone, a once-familiar scene that had once captivated her, but now, she only felt resentment.
"Nothing to do with each other?" The man chewed on the words, lifted his gaze to meet hers, as their eyes collided. Oliver Thompson sneered, "Some relationships don’t end just because you say they do. According to the law, we are still husband and wife; as long as your name is still on my household register, I have the right to demand you fulfill your duties as a wife!"
Oliver Thompson was probably overwhelmed by anger but couldn’t vent it in the ward of the injured Ivy Aretha, so his voice was full of endless repression, which he felt himself along with everyone else in the room.
"Oliver Thompson, stop causing a scene! With our relationship as it is, having ’nothing to do with each other’ is the greatest tolerance I can give you! Don’t push me, or I won’t spare you!"
