Chapter 279: 259, At the Gordon Mansion, she entered with one life and left with half a life.

A deafening roar pierced the silent night, startling everyone downstairs. Reacting instinctively, Jaysen Smith and Sienna Harrison rushed upstairs. They burst into the study room only to be utterly shocked by the scene unfolding before their eyes.

Michael Gordon was cradling Ivy Aretha in his arms, his eyes ablaze with fury as they bore into Calvin Gordon. Raising his voice, he roared, "Are you satisfied now? Are you? Is it what you wanted, her death? Do you only feel at ease when you see both of us dead? Is that when you feel it’s time to let go?"

Seeing a dagger embedded in Ivy’s chest, Sienna screamed, covering her mouth. Her mind went blank as she instinctively clung to Jaysen, tremblin violently. "He killed Ivy...he killed her..." she echoed.

Jaysen momentarily wrapped an arm around the panic-stricken Sienna, the other frantically dialing 911. After placing a call to emergency services, he called Oliver Thompson, asking him to rush over with Lucas Sandy.

He then patted Sienna’s back to comfort her and encourage her to calm down.

"I never intended to kill her with my own hands!"

Calvin Gordon was palpably shaken by the unexpected incident. He wanted her dead, but he had never planned to do it personally. He did not want to be haunted by nightmares every day.

His desire was for revenge, not self-punishment!

So, he never planned to get his hands dirty, but this woman, knowing exactly this, had dared to play such a ruthless game with him!

"You’ve won. You’ve won. You’ve won."

Calvin Gordon, his gaze hollow, watched as Ivy Aretha lay in Michael’s arms, her life hanging by a thread. Constantly, he murmured to himself.

Even after all his years outmaneuvering opponents in the business world, he never met anyone as ruthless as this woman who, at her desperation, was ready to harm herself. She was indeed Luna Cooper’s breed––tough to her bones!

"Mi...chael, don’t... blame dad...It was ...my ...choice..." Ivy strained to keep her eyes open as she spoke. Her breathing was becoming weaker and weaker. Barely audible, her words lingered in Michael’s ears. After addressing Michael, she turned to Calvin, "Chair...man...Gor...don, a man...must...keep his word!"

"Ivy, don’t talk anymore. The ambulance will be here soon. You mustn’t speak!"

Keeping his panic at bay, Michael pled Ivy, "Don’t talk, Ivy. Lucas will be here soon. Just hang on!"

As long as she could hold on until Lucas arrived, she would be alright. She wouldn’t die. He was so overwhelmed by the situation that he forgot to call for help. Thankfully, Jaysen had done so in the nick of time.

Ivy shook her head slowly, her gaze never leaving Calvin. "Char...man... Gor...don," she whispered between breaths, "promise ...you... made..."

Watching her in this condition, still agonizing over that promise, Michael Gordon’s heart sank with despair. He was helpless and agitated, feeling like his heart was being hopscotched on.

"Dad, please say something. Agree to her request!"

He had not the time nor the inclination to ask Calvin Gordon what he had promised Ivy. It was clear from her behavior that Ivy was concerned about Calvin’s promise even at the brink of death. It was imperative for him to agree. He had to agree!

Calvin Gordon, looking at the blood-soaked clothes of the two, shut his eyes briefly and sighed deeply. "Alright, I agree with you. Whether you live or die, I won’t touch Bianca Aretha. As you requested!"

As soon as Calvin agreed, Michael Gordon exploded, "Calvin Gordon, your own granddaughter! Must you allow someone to exchange their life for your assurance to keep her safe? How could you be so heartless? How could you? I, Michael Gordon, do not recognize such a remorseless father!"

So Ivy knew that Calvin had harmed Bianca, and that was why she rushed over to the Gordon Mansion!

This woman was such a fool! He had already promised to bring his daughter back. Still, she took such drastic steps. Nearly committing suicide by biting her tongue off yesterday and stabbing herself with a knife today, was she testing his heart’s endurance?

Michael Gordon felt like he was on the verge of a breakdown!

Having made his displeasure known, Michael wanted to lift Ivy and leave. But fearing that the movement might harm her further, he hesitated. Particularly with the knife still lodged in her chest. Though he saw blood seeping from the wound, he was unsure if the knife had pierced the heart.

Ivy’s safety was paramount. He would not risk causing further harm.

Calvin Gordon felt as if a string that had been tightly drawn for a long time suddenly snapped within him. It wasn’t about whether he wanted to forgive or accept her now. Rather, he realized he might even lose his own son!

Lucas Sandy arrived at the Gordon Mansion before the ambulance. The chaotic scene astounded him.

After conducting a thorough check, he sighed deeply, "Mr. Gordon, having such a wife is not exactly a peace-bringing prospect. Yesterday, she tried to commit suicide by biting her tongue. Today, she has attempted to kill herself again. Did you marry her just to give yourself a fright?"

Lucas Sandy carried on his examination while indulging in his usual banter.

Catching the joke, Jaysen breathed a sigh of relief. Addressing Sienna, he explained, "If Lucas can still joke around, it means Ivy won’t die. Don’t worry."

On hearing this, Sienna finally felt a weight lift from her heart.

"Can you stop talking nonsense?" Snapped Michael, his patience wearing thin. "If anything happens to her, I swear I’ll kill you," he warned.

His words implied that he wanted Ivy under the best care, not just alive.

"It’s fortunate that the blade missed the heart by just one millimeter. Mrs. Gordon, this is not the way to play with fire!" Lucas Sandy shook his head gravely after examining the wound. "If it weren’t for me treating you, even if the blade had not hit your heart, you would still not survive," he warned.

Everyone understood the concept of one millimeter. Such a minuscule distance––smaller than most margins of error––almost ended her life.

Fortunately, he had brought with him the emergency medical kit. The ambulance dispatched to the Gordon Mansion, upon hearing it was an emergency at the Gordon property, was well-stocked with medical supplies.

Due to the proximity of the wound to the heart, Lucas acted immediately at the site. Michael had to hold Ivy still, without moving a muscle, for fear of causing the blade to shift and harm her heart. That was an unthinkably dangerous possibility.

Michael would forever remember this experience, watching Lucas slowly and carefully extracting the blood-soaked dagger that was lodged inside her. The terror of watching the love of his life on the brink of death made him realize how inconsequential life and death had become in comparison.

As soon as the dagger was removed and the wound attended to, Michael left the Gordon mansion, still holding Ivy closely. As she had planned, she entered the mansion on foot and left in Michael’s arms, walked in alive and walked out fighting for her life.
