Chapter 140: 121, The truth is so unbearable

The little one was staring innocently at Michael Gordon while speaking. The clarity and transparency in her eyes made Michael stall in the act of standing, rigid for a moment, before sitting back down in his seat.

"Bianca Aretha, who taught you to be so uncouth!"

Having saw Michael Gordon’s hesitant expression, Ivy, realizing that the conversation was about something they probably shouldn’t hear, scolded her daughter even though he did what Bianca asked him and sat back down.

"You can go take your call somewhere else. Don’t disturb our meal!"

Ivy gave him a glance, signaling him to not take the child’s words seriously. Cathy, being a smart woman, quickly got up and excused herself.

Michel Gordon looked down at his daughter sitting next to him on a small stool, her black eyes gazing at him. The clear and spirited eyes were filled with curiosity, as if trying to guess who was on the phone.

Michael didn’t answer, but just reached out to rub the top of the little one’s head who was looking up at him. Picking up his phone, he said in a deep voice, "Dad, what’s up with the call?"

"Can’t I call you without a reason?" The deep voice on the other end was distinctly annoyed and didn’t give him a chance to speak, "Have you been messing around with a woman from your company recently?"

Upon hearing this, Michael instinctively responded, "Alya Larson told you?"

At that same moment, Ivy’s chopstick holding hand paused and she suddenly threw down her chopsticks. Intuitively she stood up and quickly picked up Bianca, who was sitting next to Michael while he was on the phone, and left the restaurant.

She didn’t want her child to hear these complex stories of adults, and even she instinctively didn’t want to hear any of it.

The call was from Calvin Gordon, and he mentioned Alya Larson’s name. It was clear what he meant and what he was talking about.

"Alya is that kind of person in your eyes?"

Calvin Gordon didn’t expect Michael to mention Alya so directly. Recently, he hadn’t even seen her in a long time. "Putting her in your company, letting her develop feelings for you was one thing, but the most important part was, it was meant for her to help you, not for you to bother her!"

Calvin’s tone was rather aggressive. That night, Risa Scott burst into tears and told him to let Alya resign. She said Michael didn’t love her at all; he was having a public affair with his female employee, and Alya was nothing but a punching bag in the company.

"Bothered?" Michael raised his eyebrows in surprise, and his tone turned a little higher, "She ran all the way to your place and complained, it’s not important how she looks in my eyes now, is it?"

"Michael Gordon, be serious. You don’t like Alya now, and no one is forcing you to, but you don’t have to make her feel uncomfortable at the company, do you?"

"Dad, when did you see her being made uncomfortable?" At this point, Michael’s face darkened, "With your prestige leading her to the office, who would dare to bother her? It would be best if you spent your free time doing some exercise, and pay no mind to the words of two women!"

Not giving Calvin the chance to reply, Michael abruptly ended the call.

His father, he knew him all too well. He knew exactly what he would say next, but the situation was probably more complicated than that.

Damn woman, actually caused a ruckus with his father. Michael hated people who used others to pressure him. Alya turned out to be one of those people, no wonder he didn’t like her.

But up until now, he still couldn’t understand, how did he fall in love with such a woman six years ago?

Had she changed, or had he?

Or was the truth not like this?

It wasn’t that he doubted his father, but he trusted his subconscious intuition more.

Staring at the disconnected call, Calvin Gordon’s face was clouded in a dark shadow. If things kept going like this, what could be done?

When Michael went to their room, Ivy was calming Bianca’s emotions.

As soon as she heard his footstep at the door, the little one looked towards him with a pitiful expression, "Daddy, oh, sorry. Uncle Gordon, are you going to marry someone else?"

The child spoke simply. She really liked Michael, and now that he was about to become her stepfather, she expressed her fear of losing him as directly as she could.

He had just mentioned a person named Alya during his phone call, and that name obviously belonged to a woman.

Looking at her watery eyes, Michael’s heart softened. He quickly bent down to pick her up and said, "No, daddy will only marry mommy. He will not marry anyone else."

While saying this, Michael kissed her rosy cheek. How could his daughter be so sensitive? It seemed that his plan might have to change.

"What about the lady who just called you?"

The moment Ivy brought Bianca in, she automatically assumed Michael was on the phone with a woman, as she had seen on TV shows.

"The one who called was not a lady, but your grandpa. Daddy will introduce you to him later!"

Michael spent half the night comforting Bianca before she fell asleep. By the time he went to find Ivy, she was already asleep. He slipped into her bed and Ivy startled awake from her sleep.

"Michael Gordon, what are you doing? Didn’t you say this morning that you had tidied up the study?"

It was at this time that Ivy realized she hadn’t checked if the study was actually tidy when she came back. Now this man wanted to take advantage of her in the middle of the night.

"That was this morning’s matter. At noon, didn’t you agree to be my girlfriend?"

Michael gave a slight laugh and pulled her into his embrace, his face rubbing against her neck and burying his head in her collarbone. The woman’s natural body scent seeped into his nose. Soft and warm, he sighed lightly, "So good... Since you’ve agreed to be my girlfriend, of course I don’t need to sleep in the study anymore!"

Uh?

Ivy’s hazy consciousness was finally stirred. Turns out, this man made such a fuss at noon just to find an opportunity to share the bed with her?

Bloody hell, he was overthinking!

"Michael Gordon, under our current circumstances, cohabitation is illegal, and you even want to share a bed?"

Ivy struggled hard to get out of his embrace. Her mood was rather heavy because of his phone call that night, so her tone wasn’t very pleasant. As soon as she said this, she regretted it immediately.

What did her sentence imply?

What would Michael think of her? That she was forcing him to marry using their daughter as leverage?

Uh, she really didn’t mean that!

"Hmm, indeed. Now that I’m on this boat, it’s time to buy the ticket!"

To her surprise, Michael didn’t mock her for trying to force a marriage. Instead, he hugged her tighter, as if trying to meld her delicate body into his own. His low magnetic voice, gentle as water, murmured, "Ivy, let’s go get our marriage license."
