Chapter 138: 119. The most classic display of love

"Sweetie, slow down, don’t worry, Mommy is fine!"

Ivy Aretha watched the little one take small, trembling steps, panicked by her shout, and quickly reminded her that the kitchen was only a few steps away from the living room.

Ivy was pushed by Michael Gordon onto the sofa, and just as she was about to open the medicine box, Bianca Aretha’s head was already buried in the large hospital suitcase. Before Michael could speak, the little one had accurately found the burn ointment from the medicine box and handed it to him.

The dexterity with which she handled the situation was like a knife plunging into the depths of Michael’s heart, his hand even trembling as he took the ointment from Bianca.

"Does your mommy get burned often?" Michael bent down to apply the medicine to Ivy, addressing Bianca while he asked the question, but only he knew how he truly felt.

"Yeah, yeah, Mommy is so clumsy! Before Aunt Cathy came, she would get burned every time she cooked!"

Bianca, with her big round eyes fixed on her mother’s wound, seemed intently worried, as if her Dad was about to abuse her Mom, "Daddy, be gentle, Mommy is really afraid of pain!"

Michael Gordon: "..."

He hadn’t even touched the wound yet, and she was already worried about her mother.

It was true that mothers in this world were the best!

"Baby, don’t worry, Mommy is fine!"

Ivy Aretha gave a gentle smile and rubbed the little one’s head that was buried close by, "Mommy is not in pain, don’t worry!"

She had held the pan for a little too long, and then gotten distracted, accidentally touching the bottom of the pan with her finger, causing the burn; it wasn’t really that severe. She had only screamed because she hadn’t been paying attention.

"Daddy, don’t believe her. Mommy always pretends to be strong, even if she’s dying tomorrow, she’ll still say she’s fine today!"

Bianca glared at Ivy, "Mom, before you had a man to take care of you, it was fine for you to pretend to be strong, but now that you have a boyfriend, you should be more vulnerable. Otherwise, how will Daddy have a chance to show his love for you!"

Having said that, the little one sighed heavily, "If a woman is too strong, a man won’t take her seriously!"

Michael Gordon: "..." Was it really like he hadn’t taken this woman seriously?

"If your mommy wasn’t strong, you would have been done for while still in her belly!"

Ivy shook her head, glanced at Bianca, and then pinched her soft cheeks, "Would you then have had the chance to stand in front of me, complaining that I am too strong and not lovable?"

Bianca: "..."

Okay, she was wrong!

Indeed, if her mother hadn’t been strong, how could a nineteen-year-old girl have dared to give birth to a child, let alone raise her. Having lost her reputation and all, it was a huge problem how to support her child. So, her mother had been strong all these years, teaching her to be strong in turn.

Ivy felt Michael’s hand tremble as he applied the medicine for her, and the man stiffened, then continued to bandage her without speaking a word. He was shrouded in a layer of remorse, feeling guilty for what happened years ago.

Ever since he found out that Bianca was his daughter, Ivy knew everything he had done!

He had been better than she had imagined; not only had he not blamed her for keeping the child, but he had also been wholeheartedly devoted to Bianca. It seemed as if he was even planning to take responsibility for her as well.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so insistent on telling her he loved her, even intending to marry her!

Ivy Aretha had always been smart and sensitive. She knew that he was trying to make up for his past mistakes but did not want to put pressure on her, so he simply said the word "love"!

But did he really love her or not?

She didn’t know; maybe there was a possibility in the future, but definitely not now!

However, every time she saw the delight in her precious daughter’s eyes when she saw Michael Gordon, Ivy couldn’t help but wonder if Bella would be heartbroken if Michael married someone else, especially when she found out that he was her biological father!

That’s why she made excuses to postpone the formal introduction of Michael and Bella. It wasn’t that she didn’t want her daughter to know the truth, but she was too afraid of Bella being disappointed!

The things you never had, you can’t truly lose. But gaining something and then losing it after the initial joy feels like utter despair. She already owed Bella so much, she could at least minimize the potential harm!

"Michael... Michael Gordon, don’t overthink things. Don’t take a child’s words to heart. I’ve actually been doing pretty well these years..." Before she could finish saying ’pretty well,’ she was abruptly interrupted by Michael.

"You don’t need to comfort me. I understand fully how hard it’s been for a woman to raise a child alone for so many years!"

Michael looked deeply into her eyes, then lowered his head and gave Bella a gentle kiss, "You stay here and watch TV with mommy. Daddy will cook dinner!"

Michael could cook?

"I’ll cook!"

Just as Michael was about to stand up, Aunt Cathy came out of the room with a calm expression, seemingly having regained her composure.

"No need!"

Michael clearly didn’t give her a chance and went straight into the kitchen, "You can’t cook for us forever, someone in this family has to. If she won’t, then I will!"

He didn’t like having servants cook all the time, as it made the home feel cold and uninviting.

If she won’t, then I will!

That sentence etched deeply into Ivy’s mind like a bewitched spell, and years later, she realized he truly meant it!

Ivy had always thought that Michael, born into wealth, was spoiled and unskilled, especially when it came to cooking. However, when dinner was finally ready,

she discovered that a man’s cooking skills were also directly proportional to his appearance and wealth!

"Mr. Gordon, your cooking skills are really impressive!"

Aunt Cathy smiled faintly as she laid out the dishes and utensils, her expression already back to normal, with no trace of her earlier breakdown.

"Mommy, Mommy, you don’t have to worry about burning your hands anymore!"

Bella excitedly climbed onto her little chair, using her fork to grab a piece of her favorite braised pork, and yelled in excitement.

Michael remained composed in the face of the compliments from the two women, but he was still waiting for Ivy’s reaction. Michael turned to Ivy with a gentle gaze, silently asking, "What do you think? Give me a thumbs up?"

However, Ivy didn’t seem to intend to speak up. After a moment, she finally moved her lips. Michael excitedly prepared the chair for her to sit down, waiting for her affirmative words.

Apparently, things did not go as planned!
