Chapter 1209: Chapter 1188: It Turns Out He Has Always Loved Her This Much!
Tanya’s room was a mere dozen square meters, featuring nothing more than a simple children’s desk and a bed about one meter twenty in width.
With just these two pieces of furniture, the room was already full.
Graham Stones felt cramped just standing there, but the room was decorated with love. It was clear that Maya Sanders had poured her heart into every detail. The pink bed was designed like a princess’s castle, complete with colorful ribbons, and even the pillow was pink to suit her little girl’s taste. The pens she used were all a cute, delicate shade of pink. Despite the cramped space, it still felt cozy to look at.
"John, Tanya’s princess room is really pretty, and the princess bed looks great too!"
It was apparent that Maya had not had it easy over the years. Graham’s heart ached at its sharpest point, the pain making it difficult to breathe. It took a long while for him to regain his composure before he asked, "Tanya, has it been tough for you and mommy over the years?"
He was afraid to hear the answer, and yet he still asked. As a man who left a woman to raise his child alone, Graham had never felt such failure in his life, his lips trembling as they kissed his daughter’s forehead.
"I think mommy has had it tough, by herself, earning tuition for Tanya, and paying for rent, food, clothing, and everything. It takes a lot and a lot of money. Foreigners are such tricksters; they discriminate against us and wouldn’t even let me attend school. That’s why Mommy had me registered under Alexander Trove’s household, so I could go to school..."
"Then why didn’t you guys come back to China?"
Being an expatriate inevitably invites contempt, especially for a woman with no wealth or influence carrying a child. Maya, who wasn’t born into a rich family, had returned even the bags and jewelry Graham bought her when they broke up. She never spent his money during their relationship, and the little she earned from working was all spent on bearing and raising a child—who could afford to raise a kid on that?
Was this foolish woman really clueless about taking her child back to China to find him?
Could he really abandon his own daughter?
Would she rather suffer abroad with her child than return to China to find him?
"Mommy said she would take me back to China when I grow up. I didn’t understand before, but now I think I do. She must have thought that Daddy didn’t like me, right?"
Tanya leaned into Graham’s arms, her head tilted. Perhaps it was the natural bond between them, but in just a short while, Tanya had grown very familiar with Graham, showing intense affection. "Mommy said as long as her darling I am healthy and grow up well, she doesn’t mind the hardship at all!"
So it turns out... she really was worried he would abandon their child. In her eyes, was he really that kind of man?
What had he done to make her harbor such a misconception?
As Graham racked his brain, he couldn’t recall ever committing any unforgivable sin against Maya. He never liked women who threw themselves at him, and he might have been harsh with those types, but Maya was the one he actively pursued. Although he hadn’t matched up to Roy Thompson’s sappy devotion to his wife, he had never shortchanged her. Thinking back, other than knowing about his womanizing ways, it seemed he had never even shown her a hint of contempt, had he?
But being a flirt couldn’t have made her so despairing that she thought he didn’t like his own child, could it?
"Baby, I’m sorry. Daddy will make it up to your mommy in the future, and then take good care of Tanya!"
But these reasons aren’t important now. What’s important is that he wants his wife and child back, and the woman doesn’t seem to give any chance. "So, Tanya, can you say some good words about Daddy in front of mommy, okay?"
"Why? Does Daddy like mommy, or does he feel like he owes mommy money?"
Her big eyes twinkled adorably yet with sensitivity that’s beyond her years. Children who are too perceptive are always so heartbreakingly endearing, "Daddy, actually, mommy and I are doing quite well now; you don’t have to feel like you owe us anything. When I grow up a bit more, I’ll be able to help share some of the burdens with mommy!"
Graham’s heart seized up as the softest part of it was hit hard, feeling as though it had been hollowed out. It took him a great while to regain his composure and find his words, "With Daddy here, there’s no need for Tanya to share any burdens. From now on, Daddy will handle these things. Tanya and mommy just need to live happily and joyfully, that’s all!"
His child, whom a woman had given birth to and raised to this size, was already a huge blessing. Now, it was naturally his turn. The more sensible his daughter became, the more his heart ached. He actually wished for his precious daughter to be less sensible, to be as willful as a normal child when it’s time to be!
"Really?"
She said so, but the emoji on her face betrayed her truest thoughts; instinctively she didn’t believe he was a reliable stepfather, "Then, Daddy, do you like mommy?"
That’s what’s most important because mommy said before, she would rather struggle with her child for life than be with someone she doesn’t like. Many uncles have pursued mommy, and that’s what mommy said. Tanya grew up listening to these words. Therefore, in her life, "like" is very important to mommy and even more crucial for Daddy!
Her mommy is a very kind mommy who doesn’t need anyone’s pity or sympathy. When she was little, her mommy got through it all, and now she’s already six years old, a big girl, capable of helping out at the studio, receiving clients!
When Maya returned to the country, she found a suitable store near Tanya’s school and opened a fashion design studio, which was convenient for picking up Tanya and also fulfilled the dream she hadn’t been able to chase while raising her child.
"Silly girl, Daddy of course likes mommy. Otherwise, how could Daddy and mommy have such a cute Tanya?"
Graham felt a sourness in the corners of his eyes and an ache in his heart. He was moved by his daughter’s maturity, saddened by Maya’s strength, and regretful for missing his child’s growth, "Your Daddy loves your mommy, loves her very much, so much that I didn’t know before. By the time I realized, she had already disappeared!"
He finally understood why he was so captivated by Nana from the moment he saw her during the lowest point of his love life, not yet fully recovered from a breakup. It was a young girl whom he fixated on. Now he finally knew why – because she had a forehead almost identical to Maya’s and that same calm, water-like demeanor. Quietly standing there was enough!
Oh man!
Too playful, neglecting the true feelings that were already taken by a woman, while thinking he had no heart left!
