Chapter 997: Chapter 977: The One He Likes is You!
"So... so..."
Hearing Chani Gordon say that, Nicole Thompson felt like she had to ask them, or the hat of being the culprit would definitely be on her head. If she made Brother Rio unhappy, he might not play with her anymore, so Nicole Thompson immediately turned to look at Moriya Sandy and Willy Smith and asked, "Brother John, Brother Moriya, do either of you have a girl you like?"
She was just asking, really just asking, and didn’t expect these two men, who were usually men of few words, to answer her. However, what followed was a dramatic scene...
"Yes!"
"Yes!"
The two normally reticent men had said yes barely a second apart, as if racing each other to speak first,
"Wow, John, Moriya, when did you two start liking a girl, and how come you never told everyone?"
This sort of thing was Chani Gordon’s favorite; other than squandering money, her biggest hobby was gossip, especially gossip about boys and girls pairing up. It was probably because Roy Thompson and Bella Gordon had used her as a messenger since she was young.
Chani Gordon had always liked to meddle in these matters, and now Willy Smith and Moriya Sandy, these two boys who had been silent since childhood and never dared to have a female classmate approach them, were saying they had someone they liked. She really couldn’t hold herself back from gossiping; she would do herself a disservice!
"Yes, yes!"
Seeing Chani Gordon speak up, Nicole Thompson, who had always been too curious to speak, also eagerly joined in, "Brother John, Brother Moriya, I want to know too, who is the girl you like? Do I know her? If not, can you introduce me? I’ll have to call her sister-in-law in the future!"
It’s important to nurture the habit of calling someone sister-in-law from a young age. The third sentence she spoke after she learned to talk was to call Bella Gordon sister-in-law, her first being "mom" and second "dad." The fourth one was to her brother, who shamelessly doted on his wife!
Hearing the two girls speak, the first to react was Moriya Sandy, who was usually the most indifferent. He had been sitting next to Nicole Thompson and as soon as she spoke, he stared at her intently, with an emoji-like expression that grew darker and more menacing as he watched her.
"Um, Brother Moriya, please don’t look at me like that. If you’re not happy with me asking, I won’t ask anymore..."
Nicole Thompson was intimidated by his stern face and couldn’t help but shrink her head into her neck, speaking softer and softer until barely audible by the end.
"I’m not upset!"
Just when everyone thought that Moriya Sandy, who was often quieter than his own father, wouldn’t speak, the man threw out a sentence indifferently and then turned his gaze from Nicole Thompson’s face back to normal.
"Really? Brother Moriya, you’re really not mad at me?"
Hearing the man say he wasn’t upset with her, Nicole Thompson instantly regained her courage, "Then can you tell me, Brother Moriya, who is the girl you like? Who is my sister-in-law?"
"You don’t have a sister-in-law!"
This time, Moriya Sandy responded almost instantly with a cold and forceful statement that brooked no refusal. That kind of feeling, ineffable and indescribable, made Nicole Thompson shut her mouth at once, but in her mind, she was silently trying to figure out the meaning behind his words, "You don’t have a sister-in-law!"
He said he had someone he liked, and she asked him who this sister-in-law might be. She wondered if she might know her, but he replied that he had no sister-in-law, which, of course, didn’t include Sister-in-law Bianca!
"Brother Moriya, could it be that the person you like, doesn’t like you back, and that’s why you say I don’t have a sister-in-law?"
After a brave bit of speculation, Nicole Thompson couldn’t help but ask. After all, aside from making a face, Moriya Sandy wouldn’t really do anything to her. Besides, he had just mentioned he wasn’t angry, right? In fact, she quite liked Brother Moriya, so maybe she should show some concern. If someone you like doesn’t like you back, it’s said to be quite pitiful; that’s called unrequited love. As for what it feels like, she had no idea yet!
But she also hoped that Brother Moriya wouldn’t have to taste that kind of bitterness!
"Brother Moriya, don’t worry, if that’s really the case, I’ll definitely help you. I’ll speak well of you in front of the girl you like and make sure she likes you!"
This was called being a matchmaker. If she ever had a quarrel over some trivial matter with a friend and they were giving each other the cold shoulder, wasn’t it always resolved by finding someone to intervene and help patch things up?
Chani Gordon really felt like banging her head against the wall. This damn girl, her face already gave the answer away, why even ask? She really wanted to see this girl get taken outside by this man for a thorough scolding, but the outcome was beyond her expectations.
"Are you serious?" Moriya turned to look at Nicole Thompson, who was blinking her big eyes and promising confidently. A shimmering spark flashed in his eyes, "You can truly make her like me?!"
The usually cold voice was tinged with a faint excitement. Although it might not be noticeable unless listening carefully, Chani, sharp as she was, caught the subtext.
"Of course!"
Nicole Thompson was completely oblivious to the changing expressions and eyes of Brother Moriya sitting beside her, simply patting her chest excitedly and assuring him, "My word is my bond, as long as it’s within Corda City, no matter who you like, I have a way to be persuasive!"
After all, Corda City was her turf. That said, Nicole suddenly realized something wasn’t quite right. Moriya currently lived in Andras City, and even though he often visited Corda City — his father, Lucas Sandy, had once been her father’s right-hand man — he had moved to Andras City after getting married. But what if the girl he liked was from over there? She, unfamiliar with that place, certainly couldn’t be a matchmaker.
"Ahem, but Brother Moriya, if the girl you like isn’t from Corda City, then I might... might be powerless to help!" She had to tell the truth since she was always honest and not one to brag. But worried that her frankness might quench the spark of hope that had just ignited in Moriya, she quickly added, "However, if it’s a girl from Andras City, my sister-in-law should be able to help you, and Sister Chani too, right? It’s your territory over there, isn’t it?"
As she said this, she made a heart gesture to please Chani, but unfortunately, Chani, unfazed by family ties, completely ignored her.
"With Moriya’s King of Hell face, I don’t think I have the ability to find him a wife!"
Chani Gordon shrugged and laughed, "Your sister-in-law, my sister, is busy rolling in the bed sheets as a newlywed, starting a family with my brother-in-law, your brother. It’s best not to disturb her!"
Nicole Thompson: "..."
How could Sister Chani be so cruel, leaving no hope for Brother Moriya? Now Brother Moriya must be heartbroken!
"No worries, Brother Moriya, my brother is about to move to Andras City to live soon. If need be, I’ll get him to..." Before she could finish the words "help you," the man interrupted her.
"The person I like is in Corda City, so I’m counting on you!"
