Chapter 970: Chapter 950: It’s Good to Like
"If you don’t pay attention to him, he has no choice but to leave!"
Jaysen Smith wanted to answer, but Sienna Harrison beat him to it, "Nora, dear, Auntie wants to ask you, do you not like John?"
Jaysen Smith: "..."
His wife was really cunning, this was practically forcing the girl to say she liked him. Sure enough, no sooner had Sienna Harrison finished speaking than Nana Jensen instinctively responded: "I do like John, and I wasn’t ignoring him!"
Willy Smith, Rio Gordon, Chani Gordon, and Nana Jensen were all around the same age, differing by a year, and had played together since childhood. Nana Jensen, being the oldest, always saw them as younger siblings—how could she not like them!
"As long as you like him, that’s good!" Seeing the young girl fall for it, Sienna Harrison was very pleased, and quickly nodded, "John is in the study reading. Go and see him, or he might think you don’t like him!"
"How could I not like him!" Nana Jensen didn’t understand the logic behind Auntie Sienna’s words, but she was the host. If Willy Smith was unhappy, it meant that she, as the host, had failed to take good care of her guest, "Then Uncle Smith, Auntie Sienna, I will go check on Willy!"
Willy Smith had been in Lina Miller’s study for quite a while, growing somewhat bored. But it wasn’t time for dinner yet, and he wasn’t interested in the topics the adults in the living room were casually chatting about, nor were they appropriate for him. He thought it best to just read a little longer.
However, most of the books in the celebrity’s study were related to the entertainment industry, something that Willy Smith naturally had no interest in. Perhaps it was the noble blood running through his veins that was the culprit—Jaysen Smith and Sienna Harrison both hailed from distinguished families, and coupled with their pride and aloofness, Willy Smith seemed to have inherited all of their excellent genes completely!
A born top student with an exceptional memory, never forgetting anything he saw. Even more outrageous than his father Jaysen Smith, the financial genius, was that he was a genius in all areas, except for flirting, of course!
So, Willy Smith could hardly find a book that suited him in Lina Miller’s study. Just as he was about to give up, his eyes were caught by a leather-bound glass notebook on the cover, distinct from the other books.
His eyes brightened instantly, and he pulled it out from a pile of books. He hadn’t expected that there could be such an attractive book cover in this world. His curiosity piqued, he opened it only to find that it wasn’t a book at all, but rather... a diary!
"That day, with a fine drizzle, was the first time I went to the Gordon family on my own to play with Bianca, Rio, and Chani. I thought Chani would be the one to open the door since she loves to play the most. But to my surprise, when the door opened, it was someone else..."
Reading this, Willy Smith knew he shouldn’t read any further. It was a girl’s secret, yet for some reason, he couldn’t control himself. So, he silently counted to three in his mind, telling himself that after this page, he would definitely not turn to the second page!
And yet, even just that night, the words that followed shattered all his fantasies.
"He was tall and handsome, dressed in black casual clothes. When he opened the door and saw me, he squinted his eyes for quite a while before asking if I was Nora. That moment, I realized that this tall and handsome big brother was Brother Thompson, who used to play with me when I was a child. That year, I was twelve!"
"Somehow, since that day, the image of that face, that figure, and those squinting eyes when he opened the door started to appear in my mind from time to time. Although it was clearly a scrutinizing gaze, I was profoundly enchanted. Later on, he often accompanied Sister Bianca, and I saw him many times. Each time I saw him, I became more fascinated. I think I may be like all girls in puberty, falling in love with a man..."
Willy Smith could distinctly feel a string in his brain snap, a blast echoing in his head that made his scalp tingle. That incomplete, still-developing heart of his felt a sudden, sharp sting and then, as if it were hollowed out, he was stunned into numbness!
After that, even if he turned the pages, he no longer had the attention to read on.
"Willy Smith, what are you looking at?!"
The shrill, agitated scream came with the sound of the study room door being pushed open. Before he could snap out of his daze, the notebook was snatched from his hand by Nana Jensen, "How could you randomly look at other people’s things? It’s rude to flip through someone else’s stuff, Willy Smith, do you even understand manners?"
Usually, when someone’s secret is peeped by others, the first instinctive response is anger, so Nana Jensen’s tone was one of reproach, and quite an angry one at that. Willy wanted to open his mouth to explain, but upon seeing the girl’s hostile gaze, he chose to say something else instead.
"I didn’t know it was your notebook. I only realized after I opened it, and I was just about to close it when you came in!" Willy Smith rose from the study room chair, "I only noticed this book because it stood out among a bunch of entertainment magazines, and I opened it out of curiosity, I didn’t see anything!"
He could clearly feel the woman let out a slight sigh of relief, but her eyes still held a trace of suspicion as she looked at him.
Finally, he added another assurance, "I really didn’t see anything, it wasn’t intentional, I’m sorry!"
Rather than make an apology that was too brutally honest, which might hurt her pride, Willy chose to tell a kind lie, burying deep within his heart the page he had seen and vowing to keep it sealed away until his death, guarding her secret for a lifetime!
Perhaps it was the boy’s particularly clear eyes, or perhaps because Willy Smith had always been a well-behaved child. Unlike Rio Gordon, the dazzling Young Master who was always in the spotlight, Willy had always been reserved and modest, a gentle and gracious good boy, completely unassociated with anything rebellious or unscrupulous!
Sometimes she wondered if it was a bit dull for a boy to be as well-behaved as Willy during his teenage years.
So, if someone else had said those words, Nana Jensen probably wouldn’t have believed them, but since they were coming from Willy Smith, she chose to believe!
"Fine, I know you didn’t do it on purpose, I won’t blame you!"
After all, he was her younger cousin and a guest in the house, allowed into her mother’s study room plainly with her mother’s permission. Nana Jensen felt that her behavior just now had been somewhat too intense, especially the accusatory tone, "And besides, it’s also my fault for not keeping it safe!"
"My behavior was also wrong earlier; I didn’t even ask you and yet I lost my temper so badly. I apologize to you too!"
She had been looking for this diary for many days, thinking it had been lost––she never expected to find it in her mother’s study room.
