Chapter 370: Qixi Festival (6)

Both of their parents had crossed earlier on, leaving them with nothing.

Chunhua listened and said, "Well, at least you have a brother and you got to know your parents. I didn’t have the opportunity to do so. All I could remember was I was an orphan. And believe me if I told you, being alone is so sad. To your brother, you are not a burden at all, rather you’re the reason he keeps waking up."

Just like the reason she was fighting to be alive in the Main Game World. Well, food is another reason too.

Though she was optimistic most of the times, she sometimes imagined what her life would be if her real family was around.

She didn’t mind if they were poor or she was ill like Junjie as long as they were together.

But those depressive thoughts had lessened over the course of time when she met her Senior Sister, Master, Brother Siri, the four ’littles’, the Salted Fish Residents, and Chef Long...

It’s like having a home to go back.

Junjie stopped crying when he heard Chunhua’s story. It turns out the Sister beside him is more pitiful than him!

Junjie wiped his tears and took out something from his pocket. "Big Sister, this is for you."

Chunhua looked down and saw the red string tied into a knot. "What is this?"

"Big Brother and I went to the temple yesterday and the monks gave us extra strings. They saw it would ward off bad luck!" Junjie wiped his hands on his shirt before tying the red string over Chunhua’s fair wrist. "It looks pretty on you!"

Chunhua looked at the similar red string on the kid’s wrist and said, "Yours is pretty as well."

Junjie blushed at the compliment.

"Junjie, there you are! I’ve searched everywhere for you!"

Chunhua and Junjie turned to the side and saw a man wearing a red plaid long sleeve button shirt and a small red bandana, pushing a small cart filled with sweet roasted chestnut.

The man had a peach blossom eyes and his lips were pressed into thin line. He seems not to be too old, only around the late twenties.

When Junjie saw the man, his little eyes lit up and he immediately run off to the man’s arm, "Big Brother Jun Chang!"

Jun Chang scooped the little boy into his arms before giving him a tight hug. The lines due to worries disappeared from his face. "I’ve been worried sick. How could you run off without saying anything?"

"I’m sorry, Big Brother Jun Chang, I’ll never do that again." Junjie was guilty and instantly apologized.

"Just, don’t be out from my sight again." Jun Chang sighed, couldn’t get angry, and just rubbed the little boy’s head before putting him down.

Jun Chang cast a glance towards Chunhua. He grabbed three handfuls of chestnuts and packed them into the brown paper bag before hurrying over to the two and handing Chunhua the snacks, "Thank you for taking care of Junjie. Please take this."

Chunhua remembered what Junjie said about the money needed for the surgery and declined the bag of chest nut, "It’s okay. No need. I am already full."

Jun Chang was suddenly embarrassed but still insisted because he had nothing else to pay. "Please just take it."

"Big Sister Chunhua, Big Brother Jun Chang cooks the most delicious roasted chestnuts! You’ll regret not tasting it!" Junjie urged Chunhua with his eyes full of expectation.

She really doesn’t want to take it but looking at the little kid’s eyes, in the end she took it. "Alright."

Junjie beamed a smile which made his Brother smiled too.

After the small talk, Chunhua came to know of the condition of Junjie.

"He had hereditary disease passed down from my Grandfather. It’s called MEN type 1. That is the reason why he is skinny, lethargic, and often forgets about things. The symptoms showed very early when he was only at 8 years old and now he is 10, it worsened."

"In order for him to be well, the doctor had prescribed a plan and it includes surgery to remove the tumors. But don’t worry about it because we’re almost there..."

Jun Chang forced a smile and didn’t talk further because it was a sensitive topic and his problem. He didn’t want to share the burden to somebody else.

Even Chunhua was not good with reading people; she could see that Junjie’s big brother was lying.

Jun Chang squeezed the money and gave them a big bow. "Thank you again for taking care of Junjie."

"Junjie is a good kid. We had a great time together." Chunhua replied.

"I also had a good time, Sister." Junjie smiled. "I hope we meet again soon!"

Chunhua waved her hand to say goodbye to the little friend she made.

The moment Jun Chang pushed the cart away, Chunhua saw Chef Long staring at her.

She couldn’t distinguish all the emotions in his eyes but one thing she was certain of, he seemed sad.

In the same bench, the two sat together.

Before Chunhua could say anything, the man beat her to it, "I’m sorry for hiding it. I was going to tell you but I was afraid that you might isolate me. In the end, I thought it was unnecessary. But after you ran away, I figured out it was wrong and it’s cause you to feel that I don’t trust you." He said carefully. He was a man of few words but now, he said so many sentences and his hands on his laps were faintly trembling indicating that the man was nervous.

Haoran was indeed nervous and didn’t look at Chunhua’s eyes directly. He is afraid that he’ll see something he didn’t want.

Chunhua was quiet.

If she had known he was protagonist from the start, she might not have accepted him even he cooks the most delicious food she ever tasted.

Because in the beginning, her goal was only to be lay down and become a Salted Fish.

She was afraid of getting involved in the protagonist’s mess and strayed down from that path.

But recalling the monk’s words, all those things don’t really matter anymore.
