Chapter 300: The Arena
The palace of the Sorcerer Dranax didn’t have a fancy interior nor was it lavishly decorated but rather the walls were adorned with golems in different shapes and sizes.
They stood like guardians serving as deterrent force intimidating anyone who visits.
This was the main reason that the halflings revered, feared, and obeyed Dranax.
The Boss Halfling was led on the side palace where there was a path to the underground research laboratory Dranax personally owned.
They rode the lift and dropped in the base floor where the lounge was. It was a simple 50 square feet space with metal stools and sofas with the table in the middle.
The Boss Halfling never wanted to be here because the temperature in the Dranax’s workshop was overbearing. Trickles of sweats already formed on his forehead and his back.
"Please take a sit." The mage Halfling said before closing the door.
Five minutes later, the door opened and an old hunchback Halfling carrying a magic staff came in. His face was wrinkled into a deep frown thinking of the subsequent defeat at the hands of the creatures he classified as weak.
Behind Dranax was the three mage halflings, his apprentices having levels above 90 with the highest at 99. It was the one Li Chunhua saw on the wall of the bulwark fort.
The temperature in the room rose with Dranax arrival but the Boss halfling didn’t show any displeasure.
"His Majesty, what did you call this humble businessman for?" The boss Halfling gave a respectful salute.
"I got a job for you. 40 miles from here, there is a group of nymphs that lives on a blue ship. I’ll provide you with ships and golems.
Capture them especially those with high levels, bring them back and I’ll reward you with ten million basic energy crystals." Dranax offered while recalling the images he saw in the mysterious stone.
He couldn’t delay it any longer, he needs to advance his plans or he will be stuck in this collapsed world.
A cloud of gloom shrouded Dranax body which disappeared after the thought of his ultimate golem almost finishing. If another fire storm came, his golem could finally absorb enough fire energy to activate and he wouldn’t need to mine bloodmoon ores.
The Boss Halfling was stunned at the amount of rewards. His combined business could only generate a monthly profit of 10,000 to 20, 000 basic crystals which is nowhere near the amount Dranax quoted.
Ten million was enough for him to retire and have a place in the fully cool-conditioned wealthy district.
Without hesitation he agreed, never fully knowing how extremely ferocious the sea blue-skinned pirates were, fully adhering to Li Chunhua’s violent doctrine.
Thirty minutes later, the Boss Halfling together with his 103 Halfling subordinates climbed the upper decks of three separate Pyro Battle Ships.
Their eyes expressed deep admiration having the chance to observe the chained golems looking very imposing.
The three mage Halflings also rode each ship serving as Dranax’s eyes and executioners.
The engines of the ships roared and dense black fumes rose from the funnels and the ships began their journey.
----
When the talk ended, Dranax called for another group of Halfling and gave a different order.
All available ships sailed towards the direction of the ocean floor fissures carrying a combined number of more than 10, 000 golems.
Inside the research laboratory, Dranax commanded the hundreds of small golems to lift the simple looking metal pot only about the size of a basketball towards the center of ultimate golem’s chest where containing a hole and carved with fire rune patterns.
Despite being small, the combined strength of the hundreds of golems couldn’t successfully lift the pot and some even got their arms broke.
Dranax’s expression had a trace of envy and helplessness. He found this thing ten years ago in the possession of King Nephim and until now he couldn’t completely bring into his control.
Frustrated, he controlled another hundreds of golems and another before the pot was successfully installed in the hole. One could see the ball of flames inside the pot, swirling fast.
Being a fire-attribute Halfling he should be immune to the intense heat but somehow he found himself wiping the sweat off his forehead.
Upon being installed, the runes on the golem’s chest lit up but it was only after a second.
Dranax knew the power inside the pot was not enough. He recalled the tower where the barrier of the city was build which still had some bloodmoon resources available.
Dranax pondered.
----
[Inside the Main Research Institute]
"I heard that in one of your expedition, you spotted a rain, is this true? Did you manage collect samples of it? I know it’s rude of me but the research institute needed it for the thermic fever." The professor scratched his scalp in awkwardness.
"We did see a rain. Our crew wanted to steer the ship towards it to gather the water but you know about how His Majesty Dranax is strict with schedule, unfortunately we could only give up. We’re sorry professor."
The professor was deeply disappointed and let out a sigh of exhaustion. Just then, the door of the room used to receive guests opened with a loud bang, making the professor and the crew spun their sights towards the assistant researcher coming in.
The assistant researcher was wearing an expression full of joy. He leaned in the professor’s ears.
"Is that true?" The professor was in disbelief.
The research assistant nodded.
The professor excused himself, shaking the hand of every crew member, "Gentlemen, thank you for sparing your time in this interview, my assistant had someone buy some food from the nearby restaurant. Please wait for a bit."
The crew were thrilled about the food and nodded.
"I still have matters to attend to. If you have any needs, you can tell my assistant." The professor left the room. He left the research institute in a hurry and headed for the Hospital.
Halfway, he met with the Dean who had impatiently walked on his own to bring the good news to his friend. The Dean was old around the same age with the Professor and clad with a white vest and white pants.
When the professor saw the Dean, he quickly asked about the authenticity of the news, and the former nodded and squeezed his old hands. "It’s true but we’re keeping it a secret for the moment."
As if a heavy stone was lifted off the Dean’s chest, the old Halfling smiled with warmth.
Ten minutes later inside the Thermic Fever unit of the hospital located in the deepest part of the hospital, the old men heard a series of laughter.
----
Haoran was very surprised when the mission was completed on its own and without his involvement.
Though he had a guess that it should be Xiao Hua again.
After he knew the location of the arena, Haoran walked towards there. In the midst he spotted pictures drawn of his appearance.
Through the corner of his eyes, guards patrolling were yanking the hoods off those halflings wearing a robe.
These guards passed by him and momentarily spare him a glance. Long Haoran’s halfling version was very cute and even in his stoic expression, the passerbys were captivated.
The guards didn’t find anything suspicious on him and walked away.
Haoran closed his palm and extinguished the fire hidden in it.
Ten minutes later, Haoran finally arrived at the Arena.
"That will be 30 basic energy crystals." The guards blocked his entry.
Haoran paid the fee.
The guards let him in.
The Arena of the Halfling City was the size of two football fields.
One fourth of the fields was stone platforms and the rest was a giant tank brimming with red water.
On the edges of the tanks were diving platforms. Halflings were seen walking around and throwing some dead fishes in the tank.
He could see the shadows of a giant fin through the glass before something massive emerged from it.
A burst of cheers came from the crowd in the arena. Halflings were howling, clapping for the giant aquatic creature.
Long Haoran saw the information of the creature and frowned.
[King BlueFin Tuna (Infancy Stage) Level 79 (HP: 78, 000/ 78, 000)]
Xiao Hua told him about her mandatory mission. He looked around planning on how take this monster down but he halted when spotted the Halflings dragging something familiar to the diving platform.
The sound of siren signifying the opening ceremony resounded in the whole arena.
"Welcome folks for today’s special event! You must be wondering why it’s called special. Well, today we caught some new goods that you might be interested..." The announcer Halfling beckoned someone from behind.
"I present you today’s challengers!"
The spectators roared on top of their lungs.
Long Haoran’s eyes widen because he saw Little Mantou, Little Ginseng, and Little Lotus chained up and dragged to the edge.
(A/N: Don’t worry. I will bring not any harm to the little guys ( ꈍᴗꈍ). Daddy Haoran will save them. hi hi hi.)
