Chapter 281: Building a Sustainable Community
A small ship had crashed into their shore after a fire storm occurred stowing it away and it carried several crates of the stones.
The previous priestesses before her had been studying the summoning magic circle for generations since the calamity but each time they were unsuccessful up until yesterday.
The boiler room was simply a space where water is brought to a boil. The steam was transmitted to a separate engine room located at the next room through a connecting flue (a duct for smoke and gasses), where it was utilized to power the vessel.
And with such a large ice ship weighing more than the cargo ship on almost full load, a single boiler wouldn’t suffice.
Li Chunhua crafted several boilers and ducts according to the blueprint the Priestess modified out of the metal ingots and using the bloodmoon ores as coals the King Clam had stored in his inner compartment beforehand and when they did the first test the nymphs couldn’t go near the boilers without fainting from the fire energy.
Shivani and Shillo lasted for two minutes for a minute before fainting too. They had to be submerged into the pool to recover.
The next experiment was about using wooden planks. The ship did moved but it was after consuming 400 units for a few seconds voyage. Shivani knew the method was too farfetched to sustain because of the scarcity of resources.
The King Clam, their newest benefactor also said that besides the Witch’s island, there were only small barren lands within 50 miles and it didn’t have a single tree.
Li Chunhua was also thinking the same thing.
"How about we use propellers instead under the ship and we can rotate them mechanically to produce the power? Then we can reconstruct the pipeline to provide power..."
The one who said that was Shivani and she stopped talking after realizing the huge problem. She didn’t take into account the departure of the Champion. Among them, the latter was the only one capable of wind spell.
Their skill Water Manipulation wouldn’t be able to deliver the same effect because the water energy in the sea was no longer concentrated unless it is purified, there’s nothing else they could do.
Li Chunhua was listening to the side and her mind flown somewhere else regarding the Clam’s information. It said that some fishes saw a Giant Lobster constantly lurking on the ocean floor 10 miles from here. It was mining bloodmoon ores.
Ding-
A screen appeared in front of her.
[Side Mission: Help the Nymphs build a sustainable community!]
[Reward: Five-Star Meal]
⊙.☉ Five-star meal?
Say what???
Li Chunhua pressed her face closer to the screen and when she was certain it wasn’t a hallucination, she swallowed her saliva.
"System, what are you referring to sustainable community?" With such a reward, Li Chunhua was eager to complete it.
[A Sustainable Community meet the diverse needs of existing and future residents, their children, and other users, contribute to a high quality of life...blah...blah...]
[..high-quality education, beliefs for all members...maintains a place that is safe from crime and aggression, security policy...blah...blah...unpolluted water, food independent...blah blah...economic...]
(A/N: Why do I hear Daddy Dracula from Transylvania? Blah Blah Blah XD)
The system sent a long essay and its length even beat Brother Siri’s imperial edict but for her meal, Li Chunhua read it carefully until the end.
It’s true when there are great rewards at stake, our minds turned like a magical encyclopedia.
Li Chunhua used advanced appraisal skill to check the additional information of the nymphs.
[Water Nymphs Skills: Water Rejuvenation (A), Water Travel (A), Ocean Communication (P), Water Manipulation (P), Water Boundary (A), Marine Energy Absorption (P), Water Telekinesis (A)...]
They’re really water benders with built-in fishes’ universal translator.
Li Chunhua approached the group of nymphs in the middle of discussing about the propellers and intervened. "Youngster, have you considered becoming water benders...I mean using water to control the propellers?"
Li Chunhua saw their faces downcast. She knew their worries and her Master’s refining technique came to her mind. "How about separating the fire and water energy? Have you tried it before?" It was tedious process but if they can master it then as long as water is present, moving the ship is fine.
Shivani’s eyes widened. They were so focused on absorption and never thought of this method!
Outside, Shivani concentrated on the sea water. Her eyes glowed blue, enabling her to see the red and blue magical particles clashing chaotically with each other.
She moved her hand, commanding the remaining blue particles to separate from the red.
Bit by bit, tiny water droplets containing the pure water energy floated and gathered into a ball.
Shillo observed her sister’s actions and imitated it. At her will, the water droplets moved faster and her water ball grew bigger than her sister.
The other nymphs were also encouraged and joined the two. They found a vacant spot and created their own.
An hour later, there was a burst of cheers as the ship sailed with dozens water bending crews dancing swinging their hands in the air in the decks and engine room.
The speed was even better than Hail the Emperor’s battle cruiser!
Li Chunhua happily looked at her mission.
[Mission Progress: 34%/100%]
66% more and she could finally eat a decent meal!
After solving the boiler problem, Li Chunhua spend the rest of the time, building more facilities, comfortable shelters, providing rolls of fabrics, set of needles, and taught the nymphs sewing.
Although the results was very crude, the nymphs didn’t have any aesthetics and praised Li Chunhua’s embroidery skills as magnificent. They even fought for the hanky and Shana, the number one supporter was the ultimate winner.
She tied it around her right arm.
Shana caressed the embroidery and found it very beautiful.
Li Chunhua also spend basic resources to build farm on the upper decks, distributed seeds and tools, told them the planting method which she relayed through scrolling Green Thumb’s chat back logs.
"Is this really edible?" Shillo asked out of curiousness while caressing the seeds in her hands.
"Of course." Li Chunhua said before she took out plates, ceramics, bamboo woven baskets and wooden utensils for the nymphs to see.
Sadly she didn’t have any flax seeds or cotton thus she told the nymphs to look for plants with thick fibers instead.
The nymphs gathered together and listened to her teachings.
Li Chunhua might be not excels at doing things but she always listened!
As for the belief, she told them her principles which further cemented their fate as pirates...
Rule no. 1: Unless we are provoke and encounter food problems, we must always be good people.
Rule no. 2: There’s nothing a punch couldn’t solve, if there is then add one more punch.
Rule no. 3: Argument are for scholars. We, culti...warriors uses fist.
Rule no. 4: We must accumulate wealth in case we met someone like the system.
"What is the system?" Someone asked.
"Some bad people who offers high interest rate..." Li Chunhua elaborated.
Rule no. 5: Before going into contract, review the conditions and don’t be like her...
Li Chunhua continued talking and talking and the nymphs regarded her teaching as their doctrine.
---
Long Haoran had just finished making meal for lunch. He was about to serve it to the three gluttons when the meal vanished and something appeared.
His eyes darkened until he saw something fell onto the table.
It was a piece of hanky with familiar crude embroidery.
Long Haoran quickly grabbed it and examined it closer.
"Xiao Hua?" He mumbled absentmindedly.
---
Inside the Captain’s cabin, Li Chunhua thanked the system for the meal while Shana was crying on the deck looking all over for the hanky that disappeared.
