Chapter 421: 421: Nanchu uses tricks to kidnap Bai Yang, Jiang Fuli gets messed with (first update)

Zhou Xufang received a message: “Okay.”

She set down her phone that was still processing data, searched the room without finding anything, and then made her way to the study in the dark. There were two computers in the study, a desktop and a laptop. After booting up and connecting her own phone, Wen Baiyang remotely operated from the other end, and Zhou Xufang just waited, counting the minutes.

The sound of running water persisted in the bathroom.

Zhou Xufang returned to the bedroom, guessing that Jiang Fuli was taking a bath.

“Xufang.”

Jiang Zhi was calling her.

Zhou Xufang replied in a hushed voice, “Here.”

“Why is it taking so long?”

Zhou Xufang, with two headsets on, one for communicating with Jiang Zhi and the other with Wen Baiyang, explained: “Jiang Fuli’s phone and computer have been tampered with. Cracking them takes time.”

Jiang Zhi was anxiously waiting downstairs: “Where are you?”

“I’m waiting on her bed.”

That sounded weird.

Jiang Zhi said, “I’m going to come up and join you.”

Zhou Xufang replied, “Don’t come up.”

Jiang Zhi insisted, “I won’t hold you back.”

It was no longer about holding her back.

“Jiang Fuli is taking a shower. I’m afraid she’ll come out without clothes on.” Which is why single girls should always dress well at home—what if someone is hiding there? You might not mind, but the person hiding does.

Jiang Zhi was speechless.

He was at a loss and proposed, “I’ll call you every five minutes. You must respond, or I won’t be at ease.”

Zhou Xufang simply responded, “Oh.”

Then, Zhou Xufang sat on the bed waiting for Wen Baiyang to crack the phone and computer.

It wasn’t even five minutes—

Through the headset, Jiang Zhi was calling her: “Xufang.”

Afraid Jiang Fuli would hear, Zhou Xufang covered her mouth and whispered softly in response, “Mhm.”

Another four minutes passed.

“Xufang.”

“Mhm.”

Three and a half minutes.

“Xufang.”

“Mhm.”

Less than three minutes.

“Xufang.”

Zhou Xufang: “…”

In the future, she shouldn’t bring family members on missions; they were too much of a distraction.

“Why aren’t you responding? Is something wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong.” Zhou Xufang came up with a plan. “Let’s switch. Every five minutes I’ll call you.”

Jiang Zhi reluctantly agreed: “Fine.”

Zhou Xufang timed her “all-clears” to him, and after just one, Wen Baiyang had some progress.

“Xufang.”

“Is it done?”

“The photos on the phone and computer were duplicates; I’ve already deleted them. But Jiang Fuli must have kept backups.”

Jiang Fuli wasn’t foolhardy; she wouldn’t be careless with such important leverage.

Zhou Xufang glanced at her watch; Jiang Fuli had been in the bathroom for thirty minutes. She needed to hurry: “I’ll keep searching.”

“Be careful.”

Zhou Xufang first searched the study.

As for Wen Baiyang.

Staring from the Husband-Watching Rock, Qiao Nanchu leaned into Wen Baiyang’s view: “Were the files ever uploaded?” Like to cloud storage and such.

“No,” Wen Baiyang signed, “I just ran a one-click scan.”

A one-click scan is possible?

She operated too fast just before, and Qiao Nanchu couldn’t catch up with his eyes and didn’t quite understand.

Now that Wen Baiyang had nothing else to do, she pulled up the scanning program and did it over again for him to watch—cracking all of Jiang Fuli’s personal accounts and conducting an automated related scan, all in a mere three to five seconds.

Qiao Nanchu leaned on the computer desk, facing Wen Baiyang to make sure she could read his lips clearly: “Bai Yang, do you want to join the Intelligence Department after graduation?”

In addition to admiring her hacking skills, he had a selfish reason: he wanted to work with his girlfriend, as he was too busy with work and they had little time together.

Wen Baiyang declined without hesitation: “I’m going to partner with Xufang.”

Qiao Nanchu bent over to look into the young girl’s eyes: “How about joining my department? I’ll have Jiang Zhi find Zhou Xufang a new partner, and you can join me in the Intelligence Department, hmm?”

She couldn’t read lips for the last “hmm” and naturally missed the pleading and coaxing tones in his voice.

Wen Baiyang shook her head: “I’m going to partner with Xufang.”

The same sentence, the exact same sign language.

His attempt to poach her failed!

To say he wasn’t disappointed would be false, Qiao Nanchu was not quite content, still wanting to persuade her to join the Intelligence Department.

Wen Baiyang noticed his dejection and offered a belated consolation: “If Xufang stops being an errand runner, I’ll go to your department.”

Better no consolation than this, which made Qiao Nanchu feel like he was the backup option.

His tone somewhat sour, he asked, “Are you my girlfriend or Zhou Xufang’s girlfriend?”

Wen Baiyang blushed and placed her hands on her lap, fidgeting with the hem of her nightgown. After a while, she reassured him in sign language: “Don’t be angry.”

“I’m not angry,” Qiao Nanchu leaned in closer for her to see his words more clearly, “I’m jealous.” Yeah, that’s how petty he was.

Wen Baiyang, torn between laughter and tears, said, “Zhou Xufang is my benefactor.”

Qiao Nanchu was not convinced by that excuse. He deliberately slowed his speech, emphasizing, “I am your benefactor too. And I am your boyfriend.”

“Zhou Xufang is my good friend.”

Boyfriend VS Good Friend.

So he loses out, huh? Qiao Nanchu grasped the armrest of her chair, pulling her closer and leaned down to kiss her.

Wen Baiyang pushed him away, rolling back in her chair: “I have to watch the computer screen. Zhou Xufang will need me.”

Qiao Nanchu gritted his molars in frustration and waited. When the mission was over, if he didn’t make her weep with a kiss, he wouldn’t be a Qiao.

On the computer screen, a line of text scrolled out. Zhou Xufang was speaking over the comm.

“I found the safe.”

The safe was hidden behind a painting in Jiang Fuli’s study.

Zhou Xufang used a special light on it, immediately revealing fingerprints and the most frequently touched five buttons on the safe: a pound key and four number keys.

It was a four-digit code.

Zhou Xufang tried twice, unsuccessfully. With no other options, she resorted to brute force and pulled hard.

“Bang!”

The safe opened.

Inside, there were several property deeds, some cash, and jewelry. Among the pile of jewelry, Zhou Xufang found a storage card—it must be this one.

She had just picked it up—

“Who are you?”

The lights in the study suddenly turned on.

Zhou Xufang stood up, adjusted her hat, and turned around: “Professional errand runner Z.”

Of course, Jiang Fuli had heard of this notorious name. She stood there in a bathrobe, her hair still dripping, holding an empty wine bottle. She was bold: “Did Jiang Xiaolin hire you?”

Zhou Xufang didn’t answer.

Jiang Fuli sized her up: “How much did he pay you? I’ll pay double.”
