Chapter 418: 418: Xu Fang’s superpower fully exposed, Xu Jiuru’s ending (second update)
Her arm muscles were tense as she said to Lin Qiunan, “Hold on to me.”
Lin Qiunan glanced downward, the fourteenth floor’s height was dizzying, the strong wind swayed their bodies, and she felt light-headed, “Xu Fang, you need to let go.”
The places where her fingers had chafed were healing quickly only to be worn open again. Zhou Xufang held on tightly, “Jiang Zhi will be here soon.”
“Let go!” Lin Qiunan urged with reddened eyes, “Let go, or you’ll fall too.”
“I won’t.”
She was strong and wouldn’t fall, but this suspended posture made it difficult for her to exert much force; she couldn’t pull Lin Qiunan up with one hand.
Her mind raced to think of a strategy.
Suddenly, Lin Qiunan’s eyes widened, “Xu Jiuru, what are you doing?!”
Zhou Xufang looked up.
Xu Jiuru was holding a brick, her pupils blood-red, staring at Zhou Xufang’s hand clinging to the edge. She sneered grotesquely, “Perfect, both of you can die together and keep each other company.”
She wanted to use the brick.
Zhou Xufang looked at the face in front of her, wrinkled and distorted with the excitement of imminent success, “Try it.”
Her eyes instantly turned blood-red.
Xu Jiuru’s pupils dilated and she stepped back, “What kind of monster are you?”
Zhou Xufang didn’t respond, her eyes blood-filled, brimming with murderous intent.
Xu Jiuru gripped the brick tightly, looked down at the ground, gave Lin Qiunan a fleeting glance—just one glance—and all rationality and fear were thrown to the back of her mind, leaving only one thought—Lin Qiuan must die.
Her hands shook violently, her mind consumed by hatred, her eyes gradually turning numb and vicious, “I don’t care what kind of monster you are, you must die, must die…”
She abruptly raised her hand and forcefully smashed it down on the back of Zhou Xufang’s hand.
Zhou Xufang’s muscles tensed all over, her mind calculating the least damage; falling from the fourteenth floor, if she was alone, would be easy to survive without a scratch, but with two people…
The wind howled, arrogantly whipping up a white bedsheet drying on the rooftop. Before the brick could fall, a hand reached over and grabbed Xu Jiuru’s wrist.
Zhou Xufang’s brow loosened as she called out, “Jiang Zhi.” She was so tense she hadn’t heard any footsteps.
Xu Jiuru turned abruptly.
Jiang Zhi snatched the brick and forcefully pushed the woman to the ground, “Crazy woman.” After cursing, he trampled the brick underfoot, extended his hand, “Grandma, grab my hand.”
Zhou Xufang hoisted the person up a bit.
Jiang Zhi immediately grabbed Lin Qiunan’s hand.
With both of Zhou Xufang’s hands now free, she grabbed the edge of the rooftop’s stone wall and leaped up, then helped Jiang Zhi pull Lin Qiunan up.
As soon as Lin Qiunan’s feet hit the ground, she immediately asked Zhou Xufang, “How’s your hand, did it injure the bone?”
Zhou Xufang wiped the blood on her pants, “No, just scraped some skin.”
Jiang Zhi glanced at her hand, then his gaze fell on the brick underfoot, wanting to pick it up, to smash someone, to kill Xu Jiuru.
Zhou Xufang immediately picked up the brick and, with a smack, split it into two with her bare hands.
Lin Qiunan: “…”
Jiang Zhi: “…” The thought of killing vanished.
Zhou Xufang clapped her hands, “Old Lady Jiang, do you know why Mr. Lu didn’t like you back in the day?” She squatted in front of Xu Jiuru, “Because you are inherently evil.” Whereas Jiang Zhi’s grandmother was inherently good.
Xu Jiuru pointed at her, her lips purple, her eyes filled with rage, “You, you—”
She wanted to call her a monster.
Zhou Xufang spread her hands, the wounds already scabbing over. She removed the debris embedded in her flesh, looked up at Xu Jiuru, “Evil will eventually beget evil.”
“Mother!”
It was Jiang Wei’er who had come up.
“Wei’er,” Jiang Zhi no longer called her Fifth Aunt, he said, “I will send her to prison.”
The last bit of his compassion had been worn away by Xu Jiuru’s actions.
Jiang Wei’er was silent for a long, long time. She nodded, “Mm.”
Xu Jiuru collapsed to the ground, as if her soul had been drained, staring blankly at Jiang Wei’er.
Jiang Zhi and Zhou Xufang were helping Lin Qiunan downstairs when Yao Bixi, who had just returned from shopping, encountered them at the staircase, each of them looking distraught.
“What happened?”
Lin Qiunan’s face was not looking good, “Bixi, take Xufang to Doctor Xu again.”
What had happened?
Yao Bixi, holding back from asking, led Zhou Xufang to the gynecology department.
It was then that Lin Qiunan asked Jiang Zhi, “Is Xufang somewhat different from normal people?” Ordinary people’s eyes don’t turn red, and wounds don’t heal that fast.
Jiang Zhi acknowledged with a hum, “Her genes have been altered.” After thinking a bit, he succinctly explained, “Through special experimental means.”
The Lu Family also dealt with medical matters, and Lin Qiunan knew a bit about what special experimental means entailed, “Then she must have suffered a lot.”
Having endured so much suffering, yet she still possessed a pure, kind, and clean heart.
She was a good girl, undeserving of such suffering. Lin Qiunan instructed, “You must treat her well.”
“Mm.”
“You need to keep her hidden, don’t let outsiders find out.”
“Mm.”
Lin Qiunan’s heart was a mix of emotions, both sympathetic and relieved, “She’s saved me twice now, it seems I accumulated a lot of good karma in my past life.”
Jiang Zhi did not respond to that statement.
Lin Qiunan walked down the steps, her legs weakened, and she staggered forward.
Jiang Zhi caught her.
He had not noticed earlier, but now, recovering from the shock, Lin Qiunan wiped the cold sweat from her palms and gave a wry smile, “I was really foolish just now.”
Jiang Zhi understood immediately; she had likely gone to rescue someone.
He was tall, and slightly bent over, shaking his head at Lin Qiunan, “Not foolish, you were accumulating good karma.”
Lin Qiunan’s eyes welled up with tears, murmuring, “Thank goodness.”
Thank goodness her grandson was not like Xu Jiuru; he had evil thoughts, but also kind ones.
Four o’clock in the afternoon.
Outside the hospital room, someone knocked on the door, “Knock, knock, knock.”
Jiang Weikai went to open the door, “Who are you?”
Four men stood at the door; the one in front replied, “I am Wang Lixian from the Xin Hai District major crime squad.” He entered the ward, “Miss Xu Jiuru, you are suspected of being involved in a maritime kidnapping case; here is the arrest warrant, please come with us.”
Xu Jiuru glanced at them and said nothing. Her hair was disheveled, her spirit dazed, her empty eyes searching around. Not seeing anyone, she panicked.
“Wei’er.”
“Wei’er.”
She was looking for her daughter.
Wang Lixian stepped forward with handcuffs, “Miss Xu Jiuru—”
She ripped out the needle in her arm and suddenly screamed agitatedly, “Get away! All of you, get away!” She shrank back, using a pillow as a shield, her eyes red as she searched around the room.
“Wei’er.”
“Wei’er, where are you?”
“Wei’er.”
“Wei’er.”
Xu Jiuru screamed and shouted in the hospital room, repeatedly calling out just that one name.
Jiang Wei’er was outside the hospital room, tears streaming down her face.
