Tang Xiang hugged him tightly, sobbing uncontrollably.

Fear, grievance, panic… emotions she had suppressed for a long time burst forth the moment she saw him, not that she wasn’t afraid, but without him, she didn’t dare to be.

Jiang Xiaolin didn’t know how to comfort people; he just held her silently, letting her cry all she wanted. When she was too tired to cry, he wiped her face with a handkerchief and carried her to the car.

She had been on edge for too long and soon fell asleep in the car, drowsy and unaware.

The car drove very slowly under the high-hanging moon that scattered silver light all over.

When they got home, Jiang Xiaolin parked in the garage and didn’t wake her up. He sat in the car, watching her for a long time. She slept restlessly, sweating at the temples. He had just reached out when she opened her eyes.

She looked ahead, somewhat blankly, “What should I do?”

“Hmm?”

She turned her head to look at him, “They drugged me, and I was groggy.” She clutched the seatbelt, her hands trembling, “I think they undressed me and took photos.”

Even if she was strong inside, she would still be scared.

Jiang Xiaolin took her hand, “Do you trust me?”

She thought for a moment, then nodded.

The light in the car was dim, his gaze deep, his eyes like an endless sea, calm on the surface but with tumultuous waves hidden beneath.

“I’ll handle it, okay?”

His voice, his gaze, they were all so reassuring.

Tang Xiang’s hand, still holding the seatbelt, relaxed, “Okay.” She asked him, “Who did it?”

Besides the person who took the photos, there was another woman present. She had been drugged and could barely keep her eyes open, only vaguely hearing voices.

Jiang Xiaolin said, “It was Jiang Fuli.” His gaze suddenly became cautious, looking at Tang Xiang anxiously, “She was targeting me.” It was all his fault.

Tang Xiang guessed as much, “What did she demand?”

“She wants shares from the Jiang family.”

“And the photos?”

“They’re still with her.” The shares were just to get Jiang Fuli to hand over the person; she didn’t give up the photos because she feared retaliation and intentionally kept them as leverage against him.

Tang Xiang fell silent, her palms sweating coldly.

“Tang Xiang—”

She knew what he was going to say, “That project with Luo Changfang, I insisted on investigating. It’s not all your fault, I have my own responsibilities.”

Jiang Xiaolin said nothing.

He didn’t feel that way. That project was just a catalyst. If it weren’t for her being the one he cherished, Jiang Fuli wouldn’t have harbored such intentions. Ultimately, he was the original sin.

“My leg hurts.” Tang Xiang tugged at his sleeve, “Aren’t you going to carry me out?”

“Will do.”

Jiang Xiaolin got out of the car, squatted by the passenger door, and Tang Xiang climbed onto his back, her arms naturally wrapping around his neck, “Stop blaming yourself, just get the photos back for me.”

“Okay.”

He didn’t blame himself; he planned to spend the rest of his life making it up to her.

It was only after Tang Xiang had fallen asleep did Jiang Xiaolin leave her room to take a phone call.

“Young Master Lin, how should we deal with those three people?”

Jiang Xiaolin simply said two words: “Their eyes.”

The secretary understood.

For seeing what they shouldn’t have, there was a price to pay.

“Should I find someone to teach Jiang Fuli a lesson?” the secretary asked.

“Wait a few more days.”

Once he got the photos, he wouldn’t have to hold back, and he could crush her mercilessly.

After hanging up, Jiang Xiaolin returned to Tang Xiang’s room.

In the midst of summer, she was wrapped up in a quilt, covering her head. He crouched by the bed, lifted the quilt, and saw her head was covered in sweat. He extended his hand, touched her face with the back of his hand—it was burning.

Tang Xiang opened her eyes, no trace of sleep in them: “Why are you still in the room?”

“I’m worried about you.” He wiped the sweat from her forehead.

Tang Xiang didn’t flinch, “Are you afraid I’ll do something foolish?”

His fingertip moved from her forehead to her face, gently stroking, “You won’t.”

Yes, she wouldn’t. She still had her mother to take care of, many paths yet to walk, many things left undone. She hadn’t had a boyfriend, gotten married, or had her own children.

She sat up, her hair damp with sweat, “Jiang Xiaolin, if the photos are exposed, would you still want me?”

Jiang Xiaolin didn’t answer. His hand moved away from her face and fiddled with the drawstring of her hoodie, pulling her closer and placing a kiss on her forehead.

“Be my girlfriend, will you?”

Tang Xiang was a bit dazed.

He sat on her bed, moving a bit closer, “Will you?”

Her face, already heated from the quilt, grew hotter, “Are you pitying me?”

Jiang Xiaolin shook his head, “Do I need to confess again?”

She didn’t respond.

That was when she realized clearly that she liked Jiang Xiaolin, not knowing since when.

When Jiang Zhi got out of the shower, Zhou Xufang was spacing out in the hanging chair.

He threw the towel on the couch and approached her, “What’s wrong?”

Her brows were furrowed, “Bai Yang got an errand task, and the client is Jiang Xiaolin.” Just recently, Jiang Xiaolin had contacted Wen Baiyang.

Jiang Zhi had a guess, “Is it about Tang Xiang?”

“You knew?”

How could he not know? Jiang Xiaolin had gathered a group of people, all waiting outside Jiang Fuli’s house, ready to burst in as if to kill.

“Jiang Fuli had people kidnap Tang Xiang and took photos.” Jiang Zhi had also just received the news.

Zhou Xufang was in a foul mood, itching to beat someone, “Jiang Xiaolin hired me to destroy the photos.” She really wanted to hit someone, “I’m taking the job.”
