Chapter 406: 406: Meet Lu Family’s granddaughter-in-law, Zhou Xufang (Second Update)

“Mother!”

Jiang Wei’er panicked, catching Xu Jiuru as she staggered backward, her hand stained with blood. She looked at Jiang Zhi, “Enough.” Her eyes were red with pleading, “Enough, Jiang Zhi.”

Jiang Zhi liked to pursue victory, and according to his nature, he wouldn’t show mercy, but he fell silent. Zhou Xufang walked to his side, grasping his hand.

His palm was all sweaty.

“Lin, you stay behind to wrap things up.”

Leaving this message, Jiang Wei’er departed with Jiang Chuan, supporting Xu Jiuru.

The Jiang Family left the scene in discord, yet the annual celebration continued. The Jiang Family had changed leaders, and so the host of the banquet changed accordingly. The guests didn’t care who was in charge of the Jiang Family; they just needed to know who stood at the apex of the pyramid.

“Mrs. Lu, who is this?”

Approaching to make conversation was a portly CEO, adept at judging the situation, his face suspended in a sycophantic smile.

Zhou Xufang thought his smile resembled a blooming flower of early spring.

“My daughter-in-law.”

Lin Qiunan spoke in a volume just right for several meters around to hear.

Immediately, several pairs of eyes turned towards Zhou Xufang.

The CEO then inquired, “Is she the eldest son’s wife or—” His gaze shifted to the second son, Jiang Zhi.

Jiang Zhi replied, “She belongs to my family.”

“A truly handsome couple, a perfect match indeed.”

Pleased with himself, Jiang Zhi thanked, “Thanks.”

Zhou Xufang: “…”

She finally understood why Grandma Jiang Zhi had brought her here.

Meanwhile, Jiang Xiaolin, who stayed behind to take care of things, arranged matters for a few Jiang Family shareholders and then made some calls outside. Just after he hung up, Tang Xiang approached.

“Do you know about Jiang Zhi and the Lu Family’s matter?”

Jiang Xiaolin candidly admitted, “I am an accomplice.”

As an accomplice, he would also collect “loot” from Jiang Zhi, Tang Xiang said with a smile that was not quite a smile, “Jiang Xiaolin, you’re much crueler than I thought.”

The one spitting blood from rage was his own biological grandmother.

“The Jiang Family has a few good people but more bad ones.” He pointed at himself with his cast-clad hand, calm and composed, “And I, am among the worst of them.”

He wasn’t a good person, nor did he have any conscience. He’d done no shortage of atrocious deeds from murder to arson.

“So am I a lamb to the slaughter?” asked Tang Xiang.

“Not at all.” His gaze was as serene as water, utterly pure when he looked at her, “Tang Xiang, you are above me in the food chain.”

He was a villain, true, but even he had natural enemies.

“Big fish eat little fish, little fish eat shrimp.”

Jiang Fuli murmured to herself as she watched the two in the corridor. She withdrew her gaze, took out her cell phone, and made a call while walking.

“Keep a close eye on that woman, Tang Xiang.”

In this dog-eat-dog world, there were its own rules of survival.

Inside the banquet hall, the festivities continued unabated despite the Jiang Family’s upheaval; the sycophants kept up their flattery, and the bootlickers continued their praise.

“I’m going to the hospital now.” Xue Bingxue greeted her father and then said to Xue Baoyi, “Arrange for me to meet with Jiang Zhi tonight.”

Xue Baoyi was in a tough spot.

Qiao Nanchu suggested, “Don’t get involved in this matter.”

Xue Bingxue hesitated, “What about Wei’er?”

“The mastermind behind that kidnapping case was Old Lady Jiang. Jiang Zhi has evidence. If he hadn’t been merciful, she would be in prison already.”

Because of Jiang Wei’er, Jiang Zhi had already made concessions.

“Bingxue, just stay by Wei’er’s side. As for matters involving the Jiang and Lu Families, don’t interfere,” Qiao Nanchu was an outsider, clear-headed, “You represent the Xue Family; you’ll only complicate things further.”

Xue Bingxue pondered for a long time before nodding.

Fifth Hospital.

Xu Jiuru had just been taken into emergency care and had not yet regained consciousness.

Jiang Weikai had been away from Imperial City these past days. At the bedside, besides Jiang Chuan, there was only Jiang Wei’er, who followed the attending doctor out of the ward: “How is my mother doing?”

The attending doctor was Dean Qin.

He removed his gloves, “She was shocked, which induced acute distress.”

“Fifth Miss,” Jiang Chuan reported, “Old Madam has been vomiting blood several times and coughing recurrently. Her condition has not improved, and she did not want to worry anyone, so she made me keep it from you all.”

Having seen Xu Jiuru’s fragile state in the sickbed before, Jiang Wei’er was anxious, “Dean Qin, please check my mother thoroughly again to see if there are any other causes of her illness.”

“Yes, Fifth Miss.”

Xu Jiuru woke up, calling for “Wei’er.”

Jiang Wei’er went in.

At that moment, there were footsteps in the hallway.

“How is Grandma now?”

Jiang Fuxi had arrived.

Dean Qin closed the door of the ward and approached, whispering back two words: “Soon.”

Jiang Fuxi put on her coat hood and did not enter the ward, instead turning back the way she came.

Inside the ward, Xu Jiuru had just removed her oxygen mask.

“Wei’er.” She gestured, calling Jiang Wei’er over.

Jiang Wei’er squatted in front of the bed.

“Don’t talk, focus on getting better.”

Xu Jiuru shook her head, her voice weak, “Call your uncles here.”

“Rest for now.”

Xu Jiuru couldn’t wait, “Hurry.”

Jiang Wei’er had no choice but to call people.

The Jiang Family’s collateral relatives owned just 4% of Jiang Corporation shares. Even with Jiang Wei’er’s 10%, transferred under Jiang Xiaolin’s name, it totaled only 42%, still 1% less than what Lu Xinglan had.

Xu Jiuru understood why Bai De Medical Equipment wanted 5% of Jiang Corporation’s shares; it was all a chess game played by Jiang Zhi.

At ten in the evening, just after the collateral family elders had left, Jiang Chuan reported, “Chairman Ming is here.”

Xu Jiuru sat up from the bed, “Let him in.”

Ming Hongwei entered, holding a basket of fruits, “Chairman.”

No, she was no longer the chairman.

Ming Hongwei corrected himself, “Old Madam, are you feeling better?”
