Chapter 326: 326: Xu Fang successfully rescues, Qiao Wen finally achieves a perfect outcome (second update
Seventh floor, at the staircase entrance.
Su Chan looked up and called out, “Come out.”
A foot descended from the stairs above, clad in a pair of Doc Martens and black skinny jeans, the ankle delicate.
“011?”
Su Chan’s tone was hesitant.
But the other was certain, “014.”
Both 011 and 014 had abnormalities with chromosome six and had been grouped together; 011 had shown the most prominent results in the experiments and received special treatment, while 014 had a strong resistance to drugs and had been isolated.
Su Chan stepped forward, “Mr. Zhi is waiting for you.”
Zhou Xufang descended the steps, dressed in black, wearing a mask and glasses, a rusted letter Z on her hat, “I’m waiting for you.”
A diversion?
Su Chan immediately turned around; her speed was so fast, it was almost invisible to the naked eye.
But Zhou Xufang was faster, reaching in front of Su Chan in a matter of seconds. Su Chan clenched her fist and aimed a punch at Zhou Xufang’s lower abdomen. Zhou Xufang shifted left instantaneously, and the punch smashed into the wall instead.
With a thud, the floor seemed to tremble, and the wall cracked, chunks of plaster falling off.
Zhou Xufang estimated the depth of the dent in the wall, “Your arm strength is less than mine.”
If it were her, with full force, she could punch through the wall.
Without another word, Su Chan kicked out, sweeping her leg. Zhou Xufang moved back swiftly and in a flash circled to her back, “You’re also slower than me.”
Though slower, she was still at least twenty times faster than an ordinary person.
After speaking, Zhou Xufang instantly appeared in front of Su Chan, lifted her foot and pulled out a dagger from her shoe. Su Chan seized the opportunity to attack her back, her palm striking with great speed.
Zhou Xufang ducked and grabbed Su Chan’s hand, the dagger skimming and making a quick slice across her skin.
Blood appeared on her wrist at once.
Zhou Xufang examined Su Chan’s wound in the light of the staircase, not deep, but still bleeding, “Self-healing speed,” she assessed accurately, “is no different from a normal person.”
Su Chan’s superpower was similar yet dissimilar to hers.
Why was that so?
“You’re right about all of that.” Su Chan said and suddenly lunged forward, pulling out a syringe from the strap on her arm, pressing down on Zhou Xufang’s shoulder with her left hand while stabbing the needle with her right.
Zhou Xufang retreated quickly, dodging the needle, then kicked Su Chan in the abdomen and seized the hand holding the syringe, giving it a hard tug, pinning her to the ground, and attempting to stab her with the syringe.
Su Chan cried out in pain but reacted quickly, grabbing Zhou Xufang’s wrist in reversal, rolling over, rising to her feet, and then stepping back a few paces. She reached for the syringe on her back and pulled it out directly.
Her eyes, carrying an exotic allure, darkened.
“I may not match your strength and speed,” she tossed the syringe to the ground, “but Penicillin is useless against me.”
Zhou Xufang frowned.
Wasn’t she a defective product? How was she improved?
Stay calm.
Zhou Xufang took a breath, “You can’t beat me.” She asked very seriously, “Do you surrender?”
Su Chan scoffed and immediately struck again.
Baiyang Road, number 423.
This area was remote, still and quiet in the dead of night, only the willows by the roadside swaying the shadows under the streetlights.
Suddenly, someone shouted, “Over here!”
Qiao Nanchu immediately charged in.
Someone grabbed him, “Mr. Chu, you can’t go over there.”
The person holding him was in his fifties, surnamed Wei, previously a subordinate of Mr. Qiao, and now in the special military district.
Outside the construction site were more than a hundred people in civilians clothes, belonging to a special forces squadron.
Qiao Nanchu was brief, “Let go.”
Lao Wei didn’t let go, “The hostage is strapped with a timed bomb.” This young man was the apple of Mr. Qiao’s eye; if anything happened to him, it would be terrible.
His eyes reddened, sweat on his forehead, “Let me go!”
At that moment, a black SUV pulled over, the door opened, and Qiao Hongzhou stepped out of the car. Without asking for details or permission, he commanded, “Tie him up.”
Qiao Nanchu shook off Lao Wei’s hand, his usually lazy demeanor gone, his expression tense, “Grandpa, my girlfriend is inside.”
Qiao Hongzhou did not care much about others, “You don’t know how to defuse bombs, what’s the use of going in?”
“But just in case—”
“There is no ‘just in case’.” Leaving no room for discussion, Qiao Hongzhou gestured for Lao Wei to hurry up and bind him, his tone harsh and brooking no argument, “If there’s a ‘just in case,’ then you definitely can’t go in.”
Lao Wei called a few brothers over, surrounding Qiao Nanchu.
He glanced back at the construction site and then knelt down, “Grandpa, please.” With a firm tone at first, asking stubbornly, then in a softer voice, “She’s young, she’ll be scared if I don’t go in.”
Qiao Hongzhou felt uncomfortable hearing this; his grandson was stubborn. Not once had he bowed down to anyone since he was young, and now he was pleading for a girl, ignoring his own spine and even his life.
How could he let him gamble with his life?
Qiao Hongzhou ordered, “Tie him up.”
As he spoke, the kneeling man stood up, reached into his pocket, drew a gun, turned, and pointed it at Lao Wei’s head, “Back off!”
A police officer’s gun should never be pointed at one of their own!
Qiao Hongzhou roared, “Damn it, put the gun down!”
But he was deaf to it, his eyes bloodshot, yelling, “Back off!”
Lao Wei did not move an inch, following Mr. Qiao’s instructions, and the few brothers behind him were also motionless.
“Move!”
There was a click.
The bullet had been chambered.
Qiao Shenxing, who had been sitting in the car all this time, finally got out, “Let him in.”
Mr. Qiao turned around and glared furiously, “No one is allowed to let him!”
These grandfather and grandson, each was more stubborn than the other.
Qiao Shenxing was actually much calmer, and saw through it all, waving Lao Wei to step back, indicating him to move away, “If that girl gets into trouble, he probably won’t survive either. Just let him be.”
Lao Wei glanced at Mr. Qiao and stepped back.
“You worthless thing.” Qiao Hongzhou was so angry his face turned red and he surged with rage, pointing at his grandson and cursing him, “How did the Qiao family raise such a fool like you, don’t go around saying you are the grandson of Qiao Hongzhou!”
After he finished scolding, he turned and walked away.
Qiao Nanchu didn’t say a word and went in.
Qiao Hongzhou’s steps faltered, he gritted his teeth, but still turned back. Once the person had completely entered the unfinished building ahead of him, he sighed and with a thick-skinned plea went to ask for a favor, “Lao Wei, please, this is my own grandson.”
Lao Wei nodded solemnly, “Don’t worry.” Then he said into the microphone, “Bomb defusal team, get ready.”
A total of eight people from the bomb defusal team went in.
Yu Jianzhou, the one with the most experience among them, had just finished discussing the plan with his colleague when he heard footsteps, he turned his head to see, “Mr. Chu, how did you get in here!”
Wen Baiyang had been sitting quietly, with sweat on her forehead, not too panicked, but upon seeing him, she suddenly became frightened. She couldn’t make a sound, only vigorously shaking her head.
He walked over and wiped the sweat from her forehead with the back of his hand, “Don’t rush me, I won’t leave.”
Her eyes blinked, and tears rolled down.
The bomb’s sensor was clamped on her fingers, the countdown had already started automatically, if the sensor was removed, it would explode immediately, and the bomb defusal team could only disassemble it one wire at a time. Fortunately, the construction site was empty, with no one around.
It started with eight people, then six, four, two…
In the end, only Yu Jianzhou was left, only the last two wires remained, as he was sweating profusely, “Mr. Chu, I can’t guarantee a hundred percent.”
It was impossible to have a hundred percent guarantee; even the most skilled bomb defusal expert wouldn’t dare assure absolute certainty.
Qiao Nanchu held the trembling girl in his arms tighter, “Don’t panic, go with your judgment.”
Yu Jianzhou nodded, “I’m starting now, you should leave.”
He said, “Don’t worry about me.”
From the moment he entered, he had no intention of leaving.
Wen Baiyang had a sensor and timer tied to her hand, she couldn’t communicate using sign language, as she watched him crying harder and harder, she shook her head vigorously, pushing him with her elbow, wanting him to leave.
“Stop crying,” he said, “when you turn twenty, we’ll get our marriage certificate.”
She nodded through tears, but still refused to let him stay, exerting herself to push him away; he simply took her into his arms and wouldn’t let her move.
Yu Jianzhou pulled out the blue wire wrapped around the ammunition and picked up a pair of scissors made of special material—
“Wait,” Qiao Nanchu called out, looking at the time on the timer, “wait another two minutes.”
Zhou Xufang’s call should be coming in too.
At twelve o’clock sharp, the cellphone rang on time, Qiao Nanchu answered the call.
“It’s me,” it was Zhou Xufang, “I’m outside, can’t get in.”
Qiao Nanchu said, “Don’t come in.”
There was no need to risk another person’s life.
Zhou Xufang was very determined, calm and unruffled, “Let me in, I’ve brought a helping hand over.”
Qiao Nanchu only knew that she and Jiang Zhi were also taking action, with Plan A and Plan B in progress simultaneously, but time was pressing, and he didn’t know the specifics of the plan over there. After thinking for a long time, he said, “Give the phone to my grandfather.”
Qiao Hongzhou took the call, his tone very brusque, “What now!”
“Let her in.”
“Are you sure?”
“Sure.” He trusted Zhou Xufang; she wasn’t the type to take risks unnecessarily. When it came to human lives, she wouldn’t act rashly without certainty.
Qiao Hongzhou hung up the phone and told Lao Wei, “Let her in.”
The brothers standing guard in the safety area cleared a path, and Zhou Xufang carried Su Chan inside. Once inside, she dropped the person on the ground, “Let her cut it.”
After speaking, she took the glove out of Su Chan’s mouth.
Su Chan’s hands and feet were bound with steel wire of special material, she struggled a couple of times, but couldn’t break free at all, her face turning pale, “I don’t know which one to cut.”
Still playing innocent.
Jiang Zhi had people check; this timing device bomb had been orchestrated by her alone.
Zhou Xufang remained expressionless, “If you don’t know, then wait here to die.”
Su Chan yelled angrily, “Zhou Xufang!”
Zhou Xufang forcefully pressed down on her head, pinning her over the two wires of the timer, “If you don’t want to die, then make a proper cut.”
This was Wen Baiyang’s life at stake, and Zhou Xufang needed certainty. She cut through the steel wire on Su Chan’s hands, passing her the scissors.
She said, “Cut it for me.”
One wrong cut, and they would all die together.
Su Chan, holding the scissors, moved toward the blue wire; her hand was shaking, but she didn’t hesitate for a moment. Zhou Xufang looked at Yu Jianzhou, he nodded, and she didn’t stop her.
Snip—
The bomb was defused!
Almost simultaneously, Zhou Xufang made a chop with her hand, knocking Su Chan out cold.
