Chapter 320: 320: Got her feverish again (second update)
At ten o’clock, the police came.
Luo Yinghe was arrested, and Xu Yunci was a mess of tears and snot, kneeling and begging Luo Changfang to no avail. Luo Changfang herself was beaten black and blue, and Jiang Fuli fared even worse. The mother and daughter were set on pressing charges against Luo Yinghe, but it was Xu Jiuru who stepped in to suppress the matter. The Jiang Family cared about their reputation and would naturally not allow such an undignified squabble to escalate under Xu Jiuru’s watch.
Although no legal case was filed, Luo Yinghe ended up with a criminal record and was to be detained for ten days.
After ten days, Xu Yunci came to the police station to pick her up.
“Yinghe,” she called out, then almost cried.
Luo Yinghe found it annoying to even look at her; she felt dirty and itchy all over, her stomach was empty, and she was generally irritable with an urge to kick someone. She snapped, “What are you doing here?”
Xu Yunci was busy wiping away her tears, “I’ve come to take you home.”
Home?
The Luo family’s villa had been torn down by Zhou Xufang!
“You mean that basement?” Luo Yinghe rolled her eyes in disdain. “I’m not going to live in a basement.” How could she endure such a place!
Xu Yunci wiped away her tears, following behind her daughter and coaxing, “Mom has found a job. We’ll definitely be able to buy a house in the future.”
Luo Yinghe turned around, “What job did you find?”
Xu Yunci hemmed and hawed.
“If you don’t tell me, I’m not going.”
She admitted, “I wash dishes at a fried chicken shop.”
Having been a pampered lady for so many years and incapable of doing anything, it had taken her half a month to find a dishwashing job.
Luo Yinghe scoffed with disdain, “You’d have to wash dishes for several hundred years to afford even a toilet in Imperial City.”
Xu Yunci: “…”
The housing prices in Imperial City were indeed terrifying.
“Yinghe—”
Luo Yinghe turned and glared, exasperated and menacing, “Stop following me!”
Xu Yunci’s tears started to fall again.
So annoying with her constant crying!
Luo Yinghe took a few steps, stopped, touched her stomach, and asked sharply, “Do they give away beer with the fried chicken?”
Xu Yunci: “Yes.”
Actually, they did not.
Then, the mother and daughter went to the fried chicken shop together.
An hour later, a photo of Luo Yinghe wolfing down fried chicken was posted online, with the caption—Only when you’re broke do you realize how delicious fried chicken is.
In the fried chicken shop on Liangyuan Road, Luo Yinghe finished her meal, belched contentedly, then put on her mask and slipped away.
Xu Yunci, who was halfway through washing dishes, chased after her, “Yinghe, where are you going?”
She shouted back without turning, “None of your business!”
After shouting, she turned and ran, hailed a cab on the roadside, handed the driver the money Xu Yunci had given her to pay for the fried chicken, and gave an address.
Within half an hour, she arrived at her destination.
She went up to the eighth floor and rang the doorbell. When no one answered for a long time, she pounded on the door, “Anybody home?” She was annoyed and restless, “Hello? Is anyone there?”
“Open up!”
“Hurry up and open the door!”
Click—
The door opened, and a Black woman was the one who opened it.
Luo Yinghe sized up the person, “Who are you?”
The woman didn’t respond and just gave her a glance before starting to close the door.
Luo Yinghe quickly wedged her foot in the door to prevent it from closing, saying, “I’m looking for Luo Qinghe.” She was there to seek refuge with Luo Qinghe.
Again, the woman remained silent, tried to nudge her foot away. Luo Yinghe quickly grabbed onto the wall and shouted into the apartment, “Cousin, cousin!”
Then, she heard the sound of metal chains grinding.
“Cous—”
Her call cut off abruptly, and Luo Yinghe was left gaping in shock.
In the room, Luo Qinghe emerged from a bedroom, unclothed, her feet shackled, looking blankly towards the doorway.
“Bang!”
The Black woman pushed Luo Yinghe out and closed the door, saying in broken Chinese, “Get lost.”
Imprisonment?
Damn! No wonder she always felt there was something creepy about this cyclops, with such a dark psyche and heavy tastes, truly a case of birds of a feather flocking together with Luo Qinghe. Luo Yinghe shivered and took off running. Just as she descended the stairs, she bumped into a wall of flesh. She was about to explode in curses—
“Yinghe.”
Luo Yinghe looked up to see an eye with a large white prosthetic, which startled her, and she stammered, “C-c-cousin-in-law.”
Xu Pozhi, smartly dressed in a suit, appearing very respectable: “Are you here to see Qinghe?”
Luo Yinghe nodded and then shook her head violently, edging backwards, “My mom’s had a stroke; I have to hurry back. I’ll come to visit some other time.” And with that, she ran off.
Xu Pozhi stood still, “Take care on your way.”
Ahead, Luo Yinghe ran out of the apartment, and as she looked back, she cursed, “Die, you freaking pervert.”
Xu Pozhi went upstairs, and the two African American women who guarded the place went back to their respective rooms upon seeing his return.
The air conditioning in the apartment was on, and the temperature was very high. Luo Qinghe sat on the sofa, the chain around her ankle was pulled out from the master bedroom, which allowed her to move around the room, but kept her from getting close to the front door.
Xu Pozhi sat next to her, wrapping his arm around her waist, “What did you do at home today?”
Her eyes were dull, “I didn’t do much?”
He moved his hand to her abdomen, leaning his chin near her ear, and asked gently, “Did the baby bother you?”
“No.”
Her hands clenched.
Xu Pozhi let go of her and fetched a medical kit from the room. Squatting in front of her, he tenderly applied medicine to her ankle, which had been chafed by the chain. He looked up, the prosthetic eye’s pupil was off to the side, and with a smile exposing slightly yellowed teeth, he asked, “Will you try running away again?”
Luo Qinghe answered numbly, “No, I won’t.”
One night, she called out Jiang Zhi’s name, and afterwards, she was put in chains, truly becoming his slave.
Xu Pozhi touched her face, “Good girl.”
At the same time—
“Good girl.”
Jiang Zhi was coaxing Zhou Xufang, “Raise your hand.”
She sat on the toilet, her cheeks flushed a deep red, “I don’t want to.” Her hands tightly clung to his neck, refusing to let go, playfully protesting, “I won’t wash!”
She had eaten an egg.
In the afternoon, while Jiang Zhi wasn’t home, she ordered takeout, asking for two ice creams even though she specified no eggs, it seemed the seller didn’t pay attention and still added eggs.
Zhou Xufang ate both in one breath, becoming completely drunk, and when Jiang Zhi came back, he found her floating around the house, one moment jumping up to touch the chandelier, the next scampering onto the table to roll around like a donkey.
It took a lot of effort for Jiang Zhi to coax her into the bathroom to wash her up. She brushed her teeth but then refused to shower, and Jiang Zhi had no choice but to relent, “Alright, let’s not wash.”
She continued to clutch his neck, wriggling in his embrace, “You can’t find me dirty.”
Jiang Zhi held her waist, “I don’t mind.”
Pleased, she started to sing.
After bobbing her head and swaying for a bit, she became thirsty and after pressing the toilet flush button, she insisted on crawling into it.
Jiang Zhi quickly embraced her.
She wriggled and squirmed, then looking up, she pointed to the sink to show him, “There.”
Such an adorable little thing.
Jiang Zhi kissed her, “What about there?”
She tiptoed, whispering a secret in his ear, “New Year’s Eve night.”
Jiang Zhi: “…”
She pushed him away, wobbled over, closed the door behind her, then climbed onto the sink flexing her slender legs, “Jiang Zhi.”
Jiang Zhi took a deep breath and approached.
The next day, Zhou Xufang woke up at ten o’clock, immediately looking for Jiang Zhi.
“Jiang Zhi,”
she felt around, no one was beside her on the pillow, so she got up, rummaging through her hair, yelling, “Jiang Zhi!”
Jiang Zhi wasn’t in the room, he was in the study on the phone with Qiao Nanchu.
“Your grandmother is investigating JC.”
Jiang Zhi had anticipated this, “Let her investigate, if she finds nothing, so be it, if she does, I’ll do something about it.”
Qiao Nanchu made no objection, simply asking, “Are you really going to have a falling out with her?” After all, she was family.
Jiang Zhi was noncommittal, “Nanchu, it’s her.”
Qiao Nanchu was confused, “What do you mean?”
“The half-dead state I was in before, it was her doing.” Aside from Zhou Xufang, he had only told Qiao Nanchu about it.
After hearing this, Qiao Nanchu was silent for quite some time and then awkwardly said something he would never normally say, something quite nauseating, “Apart from my girlfriend, you are the most important person to me.”
As if to comfort him, thinking he had no one else to care for him.
Jiang Zhi felt uncomfortable all over, “So cheesy.” Two grown men!
“Indeed,” Qiao Nanchu also got goosebumps, “I’m hanging up.”
Jiang Zhi tugged at his mouth, smiled, then turned to see Zhou Xufang, her face still sleepy. He picked up a jacket from the couch for her, “Why not sleep a little longer?”
Zhou Xufang, with her hair all askew, “I’m thirsty.”
Jiang Zhi went to pour her a glass of water.
After drinking one glass, she smacked her lips.
“Want more?”
“Yes.”
Jiang Zhi then mixed another glass of warm water for her and helped her drink, “Still have a fever?”
Zhou Xufang shook her head, “The fever’s been gone for a while.”
Jiang Zhi touched her forehead, it was cool to the touch, indeed the fever had subsided.
Zhou Xufang buried her face in the cup, whispering softly,
