Chapter 30: Ch 30: The new caretaker? - Part 1
Anabella subtly kept smelling herself the whole ride.
The trio’s lack of conversation made the air tense, and she could tell James wanted to speak. But every time the kid opened his mouth, his expression turned sour, and he quickly looked away.
She would have asked what was wrong with him, but Anabella did not want to seem snobbish and overbearing.
That was why she kept her curiosity under warps and headed toward her room as soon as she was home.
Once in her room, Anabella took a shower to remove the scent from her skin and glands before falling asleep as soon as her body hit the bed.
When she woke up a few hours later, she first picked up her phone to check the time.
Her eyes instantly fell on the 10+ messages she had gotten from Clair and Noah asking her if she was fine and if there was anything they could do to help her out.
It took Anabella by surprise to see so many messages on her screen suddenly, but before her brain could catch up, her body did.
Tears welled inside her eyes, and Anabella quickly wiped them off her face.
She had no reason to get this emotional over a few messages, but the care behind these messages touched her heart in a way no one had for a long time.
Anabella took no time to reply but felt empty once no reply came instantly.
She knew that the alpha pair was busy with their personal lives, but Anabella could not help but wish...
’I need to put this unrealistic expectation out of my mind. Their relationship is none of my business. Besides, I am married and have a kid as well. I need to focus on my family-’
Just as Anabella thought about it, her stomach growled, and she went down to eat something.
She had not looked at the time, but it was lunchtime. Anabella’s body wanted food, but she felt doubtful about joining the family at the dinner table.
Anabella’s plan was to grab an apple or something when James spotted her.
"Hey! You are finally here. Sit down and eat something. The doctor said that you need to eat healthy if you want to recover faster. What shall I serve you?"
James asked while pointing toward the wild assortment of goods before him. Most of it was freshly cooked, but the caretaker was nowhere to be seen.
Daniel noticed Anabella’s searching look and decided to answer the question she had not even asked yet.
"We replaced the caretaker with a new one for the time being. Mother was unhappy with Aunt’s neglect, so we got someone else to take her place. You will see our new caretaker around sometime."
Daniel promised with a small smile, and somehow, Anabella felt bad about it.
She did not like how James was looking away from her at the moment, but she did take some food off her plate before bringing the spoon toward her face.
The strong scent of peanuts assaulted her senses, and Anabella stopped right before the food touched her lips and then pushed it away.
Her stomach, which had just been empty seconds ago, suddenly felt full. It also protested smelling the scent of peanuts, and Anabella held her stomach before she went to the bathroom.
By the time she returned, any intention she had of eating was gone, and she felt two times more tired than before.
Daniel looked angry beyond measure, and for the first time in forever, Anabella decided to explain what happened.
"I can smell peanuts inside. I don’t think I would be able to handle eating this."
Those words finally made Daniel back down, and he also smelled and tasted his food in detail.
His irritation was replaced by understanding on his face, but the man was still unhappy with Anabella’s picky nature.
"Fine! Get what you want from the fridge. Our new caretaker will be here in the evening, so you better make ourselves presentable."
Daniel suggested, but it was more of an order than a suggestion. He was making this ’caretaker’ sound more important than she was supposed to be.
But Anabella was more interested in James’s reaction than Daniel’s. The kid looked annoyed and irritated. He was playing with his food instead of eating it, making it obvious that he was nervous about something that would happen.
’I feel like I should brace myself for whatever surprise I get. But I doubt I would feel surprised by anything that happened at this point.’
That was what Anabella thought. But once the time came to face the music, it was proven just how wrong she was.
You could never be too prepared for what was about to happen in this world, and no one was a better example of this than Anabella was in the evening.
As she made her way down to check out the new caretaker, Anabella froze as soon as her eyes fell on a familiar figure standing in her lobby.
Sharon’s eyes sparkled as she looked around the house her alpha lived in, and then she turned toward Anabella with a smile.
"Hello! It is nice to meet you officially, Miss Anabella. My name is Sharon Clay, and I am your new housekeeper. I hope you will treat me well and allow me to show you what I can do for you."
The female omega stood in the lobby as if she owned this place. She was also filling it with her pheromones, which irritated Anabella more than she would care to admit. She was already feeling a headache coming.
’Ugh, I knew Daniel was a fool, but what was he thinking this time? Does he want to act out a kink or something?’
Even if that were the case, Anabella did not see the point in giving Sharon this position. Did she look like caretaker material? She looked like someone who would cry if her nails got ruined.
