Chapter 603: Chapter 468: Black Knight’s Underground Tomb
The weather was clear, but the sun overhead relentlessly scorched the white soil of the Salt Alkali Plain.
The air twisted one’s vision like a pair of pliers; wiping the sweat from one’s brow, looking into the distance, everything seemed uncontrollably contorted.
The Salt Alkali Plain Lord stood up, supporting himself on his knees. The worry on his face did not disappear, but there was an undeniable joy in his eyes as well.
The divine message was heart-racing: Destruction was imminent!
Yet, delightfully, the deities had responded, which meant they had found a new reliance from their previously abandoned state.
Before him, a deity’s stone statue with a woman’s head and a serpent’s body gazed down upon the Salt Alkali Plain Lord. Its long-uncleaned stony eyes were covered in spider webs, yet when he looked up, he felt as though its gaze bore a will, watching him.
Originally, the Salt Alkali Plain did not worship the Snake Queen but followed the Goddess of Life, just like the Kingdom of Trees, to whom they even swore loyalty.
However, as the Salt Alkali Plain rapidly developed and became militarily strong, the former lord did not wish to continue pledging loyalty to the Kingdom of Trees, leading to a religious war.
By leveraging their strong military power, the Salt Alkali Plain successfully achieved territorial independence, and the Snake Queen, once used as an excuse, naturally remained.
The Snake Queen symbolized slaughter, deceit, and disloyalty, as well as an unyielding and uncompromising stance.
The Salt Alkali Plain Lord quickly averted his gaze, fearing it might anger the deity; unexpectedly, a voice suddenly penetrated his mind as if molten lava had been poured into his brain.
Then he raised his hands: "Destruction is imminent, we must protect ourselves."
He was shocked that his body was out of control; the words he spoke were not what his mind had thought, but when the Salt Alkali Plain Lord looked ahead, he found his soldiers staring back at him with eyes as scorching as pillars of fire.
These people must have realized something unusual about him; however, they did not intervene to save him, rather they believed he had received a divine oracle and were even more willing to loyally serve him.
Did the Snake Queen plan to provoke a war? Yes, she was never a deity who favored peace; betrayal and cunning pooled together would only incite conflict and death.
The Salt Alkali Plain Lord felt a heavy burden; after losing the Undead and the wealth they forcibly took away, the Salt Alkali Plain was already in a dire situation, making it difficult for them to initiate a confrontation against the Black Knight’s occupied Kingdom of Trees.
Those Undead, although disorderly and lacking discipline, still remained the perfect soldiers as they feared not death and were immortal.
As he hesitated, an ecstatic shout suddenly came: "My lord, the Undead declare they will fight for us!"
...
Because of the sudden initiation of the Abyss Prize Pool, the Undead became more diligent in carrying out tasks, with many of them receiving impressive items.
Looking at the Kingdom of Trees, it was common to see Undead with severed hands and feet; not only were they not saddened, but they displayed their Magic Mechanical Prosthetics to everyone they met.
Working hard to fight monsters could not compete with exchanging a leg for a new one, which not only came with various skills and astonishing power but also simplified the enhancement of strength without the laborious task of polishing "Crests" to earn passive abilities.
Particularly, those who had cut off their own left hands found that it was the best item to draw from the Abyss Prize Pool, and it was also the most highly sought after.
The prosthetics included ropes, mechanical axes, umbrellas, guns, etc., all carrying a strong flavor of the East, and the Black Knight unabashedly named them "Ninja Prosthetic Hand," turning this acquisition spree and frantic draw into a jubilant carnival for all Undead.
The only downside was that after death, since the prosthetics were attachments, there was a risk of losing them.
In combat, if one encountered knowledgeable Undead, one might even have their equipment looted.
The daily slogan on the lips of the Undead had become "Join the glorious evolution!"
Other regions’ Undead watched with envy; nothing changed in their daily lives, and due to the absence of the Abyssal Calamity’s influence, there were no tasks, leading many to reduce their online time.
Lind had completely turned into a tool person. Even though he was currently the only viable helper for the Abyss plainly and was becoming increasingly adept at using the Power of the Abyss to infect equipment, he had to meet the equipment needs of nearly 100,000 Undead alone. Regardless of the necessity to draw these from the prize pool where fewer than one percent could be actually delivered, it was still a physically daunting task.
After several days of intensely conducting Abyssal contamination, Lind unexpectedly found that his secondary heartbeat seemed much weaker, and although it used to compete with his primary heartbeat to see which was louder, it was now honestly subdued, probably about to be drained.
"How are things looking?" Lind examined the new equipment prototype in his hands.
Beastmaster lay coiled on a table far away, showing strong aversion to the Abyssal scent emanating from him, and would have attacked if he were not truly outmatched.
Upon hearing his inquiry, Beastmaster lazily rolled over, exposing his white belly, while his tail stretched straight out: "Those Undead are gathering Beast Resonance, and it seems they are even planning to go to Stone Beast Fort."
Stone Beast Fort, Lind had visited once and because he was worried about being discovered by the current Beastmaster, he didn’t dare to linger, treating it as an early reconnaissance and "drawing the map" for the Undead as a carrot to complete their tasks.
"It seems they’ve completed the prerequisite quests," Lind exclaimed in surprise. It had only been a few days, truly fitting for the Undead, their efficiency was indeed high.
The Undead were advancing so aggressively, probably because they thought they could now leave Newbie Village and explore freely.
"Yes," the Beastmaster suddenly flipped over, enthusiastically saying, "That someone, some human princess."
"Magdalena."
"That’s her! She even thought to deceive all the Undead away while you were gone, hahaha." The Beastmaster laughed, rolling on the table.
He accidentally fell towards the ground, but following the principle that cat’s paws always land downward, he actually landed smoothly.
Lind too was surprised, because he knew the Beastmaster wasn’t a cat, he had merely chosen the cat’s form.
"She might have succeeded," Lind suddenly said, then added, "Too bad she chose to run the Newbie Village of the Undead with me, now she no longer has a chance to succeed."
Dealing with the Undead, reputation was the most important thing, followed by benefits. The Undead were like tops; they wouldn’t spin without benefits.
Lastly, it was personal charm.
As for appearance, it was not the most important thing, they always preferred good benefits.
Lind’s reputation had long since spread far and wide; it may seem like nothing to ordinary NPCs, but in the forums, it had blown up, discussed incessantly every day.
Benefits need not be mentioned, there was no one else in the world who awarded quest rewards better than Lind.
As for personal charm, being handsome was charming.
Thus, it appeared that Lind and Magdalena were running the Newbie Village together, but in reality, with Lind’s current reputation, he could get almost all the Undead to join his faction, leaving Magdalena busy till the end possibly getting nothing.
Gratitude or otherwise, the Undead did not subscribe to that at all.
The Beastmaster climbed back onto the table but found Lind lost in thought.
"What’s wrong?"
"The All Gods are awakening."
Lind watched one trending video after another, his heart pounding wildly.
News of "the awakening of the All Gods" appeared worldwide. Many Undead decisively decided to join, believing in deities could not be wrong, since they would not die anyway. Instead, those who wanted to join the Black Knight’s Abyssal forces had to wait indefinitely, as the other party was always in the Kingdom of Trees.
But with so many Evil Gods appearing suddenly, most probably they were targeting him.
After all, he had offended the "officials."
The situation was as he had expected.
"Hunting the Black Knight" had become a slogan.
A huge number of Undead were assembling, preparing to attack the Kingdom of Trees.
A massive battle between the factions of the Undead was about to unfold.
Lind put down what he was holding and asked the Undead beside him, "The building, how is it?"
Being Undead, some were indeed adept at dealing with people.
And the newly constructed was certainly enviable to Lind.
"Reply to my lord, the underground tomb has been constructed, ready for habitation at any time."
"Underground tomb?" Lind asked casually.
"Yes, the Black Knight’s underground tomb."
