Chapter 599: Chapter 464 [Public Beta 2.0: Chaos of the Black Knight, Begin]_2
Such a lush green forest had turned into a barren land.
The Mysterious Knight, clad in fierce armor and cloaked, stood atop a mound made of Treant carcasses. The Treant Mountain blazed fiercely, flames soaring high into the sky.
The intense heat forced sweat from some of the Undead who had just logged in and hadn’t enough time to adjust their senses, roasting their skins and charring their faces.
"It seems we have a sudden plot development here."
Thousands of Undead had appeared nearby, almost materializing out of thin air on the battlefield, yet the war had already neared its end. They hadn’t witnessed the full scope of the war, but could infer the ferocity of the recent battle from the scene in front of them.
The might of one man to annihilate a Kingdom caused tremors in the hearts of the Undead.
Looking again toward the Black Knight, they noticed golden Ghost heads and arms continually emerging from his cloak, his whole being wrapped by a deathly wind, exuding an undeniable kingly aura.
"This BOSS’s presence is so formidable."
It seemed no other BOSS could match the enemy before them in stature.
The Undead of the Kingdom of Trees had been directly involved in raising Treants, each playing the nurturing role; they knew well the strength of Treants and how difficult it was to kill tens of thousands of them.
Using a kingdom built by the Undead as a stepping stone to forge an image for a new character displeased the Undead, as no one liked the feeling of being trampled upon.
Yet when the Undead shifted their gaze to the opponent’s information, they saw only very vague details.
[Black Knight, ? level]
[Health: ?]
"Definitely a plot BOSS. The opponent must be in invincible mode."
"Should we try attacking?"
Details about the Black Knight were still scarce; he had appeared only once before.
Not being from the same continent, even popular characters like Rania on the Shilu Continent were considered lesser-known elsewhere; only Lind Armand was widely recognized because he was the only growth-type NPC universally seen as the "official son" by all Undead.
Some live streamers, who were once part of the Vampire faction, speculated about the identity of the Black Knight, but he didn’t quite match their memories; although the previous Black Knight had made a swift and impressive entrance, wiping out most Undead who thought the Crimson Monarch was a BOSS, the image differed significantly.
Mainly, the gap in strength was significant.
Could the initial Black Knight really have the power to destroy the Kingdom of Trees alone? Someone pointed out that he pledged loyalty to Melulan, who was strong but had been quietly gauged by the Undead to be only a powerful BOSS on the continent, lacking the power to fight a nation alone.
Could it be that like Lind Armand, the Black Knight was also a growth-type BOSS?
"The Druid Queen is here!" an Undead exclaimed. "Let’s watch the plot; the battle is definitely about to begin."
Inside, the Druid Queen felt both furious and fearful. She had never imagined war would come so suddenly, and she knew well that she was no match for the Mysterious Knight from the Abyss.
Her arms hung down as she gathered wild power in her hands; the despair, dark as an abyssal rift, climbed rapidly to her toes as the enemy destroyed everything she had built, and like poisonous ivy, it dragged her into the darkness.
She would fight to death because there was nothing left for her but desperation.
Based on the current "plot CG," it wasn’t hard to deduce that they were preparing to use the death of the Druid Queen to start the content of the new version.
The Druid Queen was considered doomed by both those on-site and those watching the live stream.
They confronted each other.
If she were to die, the Druid Queen might become the most popular character in the current version.
"I represent the Abyss," the Black Knight declared. "This war is inevitable; your resistance will go unnoticed."
"Undead warriors, fight for me!" suddenly exclaimed the Druid Queen.
She also noticed the Undead that had appeared nearby; although in sparse numbers and not very strong, they were her last hope.
The Undead, seeing an unexpected chance to participate, immediately became excited. There were thousands on their side; even if they couldn’t win, they could still inflict some damage. Plus, it seemed a pity not to strike such a formidable BOSS a few times.
Leading the charge.
Just as one had swung a sword at the Black Knight, they received a surprisingly abrupt message.
[Black Knight’s affection for you -10]
By the time they realized what had happened, they had already been swiftly killed.
Why decrease affection when already marked as an enemy?
Bloodthirsty sword qi danced through the air.
The Undead quickly turned to ash and vanished, then reappeared, only this time, they tacitly stopped their intent to attack, ignoring the Druid Queen’s shouts.
"Holy crap, something feels wrong. We shouldn’t get involved," one of the Undead said.
"Ti Gang bro, what do you think?"
O*O* took a moment to think and said, "The Black Knight’s favorability seems to be upgradable, so he’s not a regular boss; he’s a story boss, possibly even a key story NPC! We can’t kill him."
"Ti Gang bro, you talk as if we could really kill him."
"Haha," everyone burst into laughter on the spot.
The fierce battle outside didn’t affect their chatting.
"What do we do now?"
"Obviously, we sit back and watch the fight."
"What fight to watch? The Druid Queen is doomed for sure. The difference between them is huge. She’ll be taken out in one move."
Just as they had said, without the Undead using their bodies as shields, she would never be able to rival Lind, let alone try to close in for a sneak attack.
Realizing that the Undead were crazily chatting on the spot instead of attacking, the Druid Queen was mentally frantic.
Yes, this group of Undead acted on their own accord, and now, they were still doing the same.
However, they were supposed to despise the Abyss deeply. Why were they now watching with a playful smile? In the past wars, they had always been at the forefront.
"The Abyss might have once sent you a call," Lind, playing the Black Knight, said to the Undead, "You refused, but you also lost the chance to become stronger. Now I bring the opportunity once again, join me... or resist to the death."
"Join the Black Knight or join the Abyss?"
"Is there a difference?"
The Undead immediately got lively. If a BOSS was powerful and also extended an olive branch, they surely wouldn’t refuse. They excitedly started analyzing the pros and cons of joining the Black Knight.
"There’s nothing to discuss, really; our Kingdom of Trees has become nothing more than a CG location for the game developers. For the storyline, the Kingdom of Trees must fall!" O*O* explained his speculation, "So according to the plot, some Kingdom will be annihilated, and then the Undead will join the Abyss. Damn, I get it now, 2.0 is about starting faction wars, PVP content!"
The others nodded fiercely, feeling that he was right.
Some felt something was off, though. They were supposed to resist the Abyss before, but now they were willingly joining? Didn’t that make the storyline inconsistent? And the Abyss seemed to have always been possible to join voluntarily, but joining would lead to losing control of one’s body and being forced offline.
"Whether my guess is right or not, let’s find out!" O*O* said earnestly. "As long as we can still play normally after joining the Black Knight’s faction, there will be no issues."
He took the initiative to stand up and walked towards Lind.
"I want to join," O*O* declared.
Lind looked at him without saying anything, but O*O* was excited because his outlaw status had disappeared, meaning he had successfully joined the Black Knight’s faction.
But... the Druid Queen’s name turned red.
No worries; she was bound to lose anyway.
"Guys, my guess was correct!" O*O* announced.
The other Undead sprang into action, rushing towards the Black Knight.
"I’ve been corrupted by the Abyss, ah, I’m turning traitor. Sorry, Your Majesty Druid Queen, I’m now shaped like the mighty Black Knight."
"Ah, I don’t want to join, but I can’t control it~"
The Druid Queen gritted her teeth and glared at the traitorous Undead, feeling that her previous precautions were still insufficient. She should have banished all the Undead!
Meanwhile, all the Undead in the world, including Lind standing on Treant Mountain, received a new update notification from the official website.
[Public Test 2.0: The Chaos of the Black Knight, Begin!]
"Just as I guessed!" O*O* said, facing everyone’s gaze with a smile.
"Ti Gang bro is awesome!"
"I decide to ’Ti Gang’ twice to express my respect!"
