Chapter 532: Chapter 431 Ancient Echo
Lind held reservations about what the High Priest Soralis Ancient Echo said.
She believed the Title related to the Beastmaster was a "hehe" level of power, and she also possessed what she called the true Beast Power.
He approached her claims with skepticism.
However, Lind was satisfied with the distance maintained by Soralis, as she didn’t communicate directly with the Undead but chose to convey the details of the cooperation to him.
From Soralis’s perspective, this was undoubtedly acceptable, as it was natural for leaders to discuss cooperation. She likely couldn’t fathom that there was a force in this world that would be led by the nose with mere "tasks," devoid of any loyalty.
To show his sincerity, Lind took Soralis to the dome of the Beast Sacrificial Ground.
The noisy Undead below immediately looked up excitedly and began to whisper among themselves.
Such an adorable beast-girl—they all wanted one. Damn it, Lind had beaten them to it!
"We need to complete a few tasks!"
Lind said, "Starting from the Beast Sacrificial Ground, head north, there’s a village where a band of rogue bandits has settled, led by a Wild Beast."
He turned to Soralis, and seeing that the beast-girl nodded, continued, "Strong."
A Wild Beast was likely a kind of frenzied Beastman, but not too powerful; probably, she did not send Ull the Beast there because he was too prone to losing control.
He was indifferent to the strength of the enemy because the Undead had unlimited opportunities to trial and error. What intrigued Lind more was the promise of the Beastmaster’s power at hand.
He came to Magic Land seeking knowledge to face even more formidable foes in the future.
If he could directly acquire knowledge leading to "Dominus," sacrificing any number of Undead would be worth it.
Lind issued the tasks one by one, his tone steady.
Soralis, watching from the side as Lind gave out tasks, experienced a shift in her beastly expression, though it was completely lost on Lind.
Too much fur in the way.
Lind didn’t give any speeches throughout, nor did he offer encouragement or reminders to his Soldiers.
Even if his Soldiers were Undying Corpses, morale doesn’t arise out of nowhere, and as she understood, Immortality came with a serious cost.
What happened next shocked Soralis even more: the Undead Soldiers, who had not heard any rousing speeches, charged out with fervent roars.
"Truly, an invincible and terrible force!" Soralis couldn’t suppress her inner astonishment.
Without questioning, without the need for morale, the Soldiers went wherever the General pointed, with loyalty taking precedence. With such a formidable army, who could stand against him?
They seemed like an army, but to Soralis, they felt more like rabid Believers, completely devoted and fervent in their faith, offering all to Lind without hesitation or doubt.
Even the Beastmaster, deemed a heretical group by the Tri-God Faith, couldn’t achieve this, and compared to them, Lind seemed more like the cult leader.
Lind turned to look at Soralis, sensing potential misconceptions on her part.
Morale? Undead don’t need such a thing.
Apart from building his persona, having NPC Soldiers present, and the occasional need for theatrical effect in a speech, handing out tasks was typically enough—oh, and rewards for those tasks.
They’d listen to whoever gave the most rewards.
Two to three thousand Undead girded in Abyss Equipment might not be invincible, but within the domain of the Beast Sacrificial Ground, dominating was no issue. Lind was quite confident in them—if they couldn’t win, they’d just resurrect.
When I can acquire new knowledge and power depends on how hard you, Undead, strive.
...
Several squads split up, with the Black Tortoise Shield trio adding two more to form a five-person team; they had only a vague direction to act on.
But that was sufficient, for NPCs wouldn’t lead themselves astray; if they said it was in that direction, it certainly was.
Games don’t give impossible tasks—if there is one, it’s either hidden too well or bugged.
The jagged rocky terrain up ahead, like severed limbs, hindered the Undead’s advance.
"Be alert, enemies might spawn ahead!"
Walking on the prickly rocks, they arrived at a desolate cluster of buildings, blackened by fire.
A flicker of flame lit up.
"Enemies spawned! In that ruined house’s second floor, to the right!"
"Wait before engaging, check for any ambush."
The team had long since incorporated cooperation into their combat style, emboldened by their fearlessness of death, the Undead trusted their backs to one another, just as they would valiantly die for a comrade, ensuring "efficiency" in battle.
An Ordinary Warrior might hesitate, anticipating an incoming attack, but an Undead thought of enduring the hit to maximize their output or tanking a blow if it wouldn’t interrupt their casting.
They fought using numbers and dispassionate calculus.
"We might be biting off more than we can chew, they’re too numerous, and one of them... crap, how do you even rank that, looks about level 33, but I feel that Double-faced Wild Beast could tear William apart."
"Definitely a third-ring master at full circle."
"You’re mixing in cultivation jargon now?"
"Regardless, I think William doesn’t stand a chance, probably has the power of 1.5 Williams."
The great William, protagonist of the Great Rift version, had become a unit of combat power measurement.
