Chapter 184: Chapter 170 Undead: Stealth is indeed like this, right?
After his NPCs and the undead started to act out of control, Lind had no choice but to take the initiative to attack, at least to find out what was happening.
Dome, not skilled in combat but deeply trusted by Leon, even made Milan reluctant to approach him. As Milan said, ’Book Thief’ Dome was a troublesome target.
The enemy still had many hostages, the undead could die, but folks like Reed could not, each of them was precious.
As a Lord, he had never thought of directly abandoning his subordinates.
When mutual trust existed, this relationship was indestructible and would make both sides die for it, but when cracks in trust began, their relationship might be more fragile than cracked glass, ready to collapse and possibly cause harm to oneself.
The team heading towards Soul Valley was massive, hundreds strong.
Lind donned heavy armor, took up the Broken Sword, and mounted his heavily armored Catastrophe Warhorse.
In the sunlight, his heavy armor reflected light, making him look like a slowly moving golden hillock.
The investigation might lead directly to conflict, and the best way to handle a conflict was to eliminate the opposition when it arose.
Thus, the safest bet was still strength, so Lind also brought Lance along.
After the Great Knights lost contact for unknown reasons, Lind did not call upon the ordinary Great Knights. Someone like Lance, at a higher rank, might be safer.
As the strongest under Lind in terms of combat ability, Lance was indeed considered that security.
If Lind was not careful, being continuously headshot by Lance’s Ice Bow could likely kill him, and his agility was not a match for Lance, who had mutated into a deer man, creating a high probability of being kite-killed in open areas.
This was just a hypothesis, because Lind was not lacking in medium and long-range methods.
At the gate of Star Dragon City, Lind looked at Miss Miko, who had shown up uninvited, took off his helmet, extended his hand to her, and said, "Let’s go!"
There was no need to rush back; after all, she was a High-ranking Wizard and Miss Miko’s small bag appeared to be packed with various Magic Potions, if he wasn’t mistaken.
One could always trust Miss Miko when it came to stockpiling.
Miss Miko, satisfied, grabbed Lind’s extended hand, used the force of his pull to leap onto the horse, sitting in front of him.
Perhaps this was why she found Lind agreeable—many things need not be argued over, a nod from the other party once a solution was presented sufficed.
She found a comfortable position on the broad back of the horse, leaning against Lind, like leaning against an automatically heated iron chair, the cold wind hitting her face only to become a gentle breeze.
They shared one of the Catastrophe Warhorses, Lind and Miss Miko on one, Lance on another.
The daylight gradually dimmed as they followed the guide of the sticky cold wind towards the Magic School of Tomorrow.
Hundreds of Catastrophe Warhorses traveled, the ground booming under their hooves.
At the fork in the road, the undead all dismounted and chose to proceed on foot, and upon approaching the perimeter of the Magic School of Tomorrow, they immediately chose to go into stealth.
"Hiss," Lance couldn’t help exclaiming.
Watching hundreds of white-robed, hooded undead disappear before his eyes, he was indeed shocked.
Imagine hundreds of Great Knights suddenly appearing before you without your knowledge.
Such a sight could chill anyone to the bone.
Even the Rune Messengers, whom Lind considered weakest in overall combat ability, became significantly more formidable in large numbers.
He did not know what powers Dome inside the Magic School of Tomorrow held, but the person definitely couldn’t handle several hundred Great Knights in an ambush alone.
Even someone as powerful as Lord Lind himself couldn’t.
Lord Leon, if he hadn’t been touched by the Abyssal Curse, might have, at least he could escape if overwhelmed; the power that the Catastrophe Executioner possessed which until his death was never fully manifested, could probably fight without being overwhelmed in a sea of people.
However, if one stared at the ground intently enough, or pricked up their ears, the traces of their passage could still be sensed, as the footsteps of hundreds, no matter how muted, would always sound like raindrops hitting the ground.
Stare at the ground for a while longer, and one would see a cloak of dust at the ground level—a handful high, stirred up by the Stealth skills, held forcibly to the ground by the abilities of the Rune Messengers, unable to rise into the air.
Upon reaching the low hill, they arrived at the ancient castle gate atop the seaside cliff.
"Is the northwest side of the Rand Kingdom the ocean?" Lind felt his geographical knowledge must be mistaken.
The black ocean was boundless, but he remembered that the northwest of the Rand Kingdom didn’t directly touch the ocean. What about the Great Frozen Land?
"Just like the Red Dragon Foothills," Lance added, "there’ll be some things there that weren’t before, and some things missing."
"Plate tectonics," Miss Miko yawned, leaning against the warm Lind, the journey on the steady Catastrophe Warhorse shaking her almost to sleep.
Here you are, a staunch Witch, talking about plate tectonics. Are you discussing science! Shouldn’t you be saying it was a battle between gods and dragons, that a sword or dagger cut off a chunk of the northwest corner of the continent?
Lind also felt a sense of unreality, as if he and his party were ants disrupted by the sudden movement of a chair they were passing under, which created the daunting silhouette of a monstrous object that inexplicably moved from one place to another before their eyes.
He turned his head towards the castle, the so-called Magic School of Tomorrow.
"This is a new structure, built only in recent years," stated Lance.
"Hmm," Lind nodded. "And it doesn’t belong to the architectural style of the Rand Kingdom."
The architectural style of the Rand Kingdom was lavish and grandiose—this was a kingdom that adored gold and ornateness to the core.
But the castle in front of them was excessively slender, especially the high tower that soared upward like a spire, giving the whole building a sharpness as if elongated fingers of a ghoul’s claw.
The castle stood quietly amidst the surge of the tumultuous sea waves.
"It’s magic," Miss Miko, who had jumped down from the horse, pointed towards a hole in the castle, "The other party has also taken the path of the Moon Witch."
"And the purpose?"
"It’s like a warning, I don’t have this Magic," Miss Miko shook her head, merely guessing.
The gate was locked but deliberately left with a hole big enough for someone to pass through, and a non-lethal Magic was cast on it.
The purpose was easy to guess.
"Then it’s simple," Lind said, carrying the Broken Sword to the main gate of the castle, and he raised the Broken Sword high above his head and slammed it down with force.
The iron door broke open with a loud "boom."
Passing through the hole was likely to be noticed, but what if they use the main gate?
Being exposed alone and exposing a few hundred people are two different concepts.
In this invasion battle, the Undead were considered the main force, and Lind was not skilled in Stealth; his exposure was inevitable.
Miko had also thought of this, "But now you’ve become an easy target."
Lind casually planted the Broken Sword in the ground and said indifferently, "Maybe not."
On the side, Milan who was in Stealth mode, held a short blade and watched the scene unfold before her eyes.
Her double crossbows are now in Lind’s possession. The short blade in her hand had been crafted from the "Carrion Queen’s Broken Sword" after Lind lent it to her for "Rune Inscription."
The short blade was not an ideal weapon. Although her skills in Stealth made Milan very suitable for close combat, closer distance often meant greater danger, with a limited attack range that could easily force herself into a desperate situation.
Lind had also not refused to lend her the double crossbows for inscribing Magic runes.
But before inscribing the green "Carrion Queen’s Broken Sword" and the white double crossbows, Milan had chosen the Carrion Queen’s Broken Sword without hesitation.
Although the weapons inscribed with Magic runes she created still emitted a white light, they were certainly mightier than those fashioned from the double crossbows.
The durability was decent, and the weapon could conjure a Carrion Queen from the blade up to the height of her shin.
Watching Lind split the door with one sword stroke, she opened her mouth in hesitation, not knowing what to say, "Can this still be considered Stealth?"
Given Dome’s character, he was probably preparing a counterattack by now.
Faint noises emerged from upfront; since entering Stealth mode, her senses had sharpened considerably. She knew without doubt that those uniquely shaped Undead had started moving.
Remembering her mission, Milan hurriedly followed; confident even if they attacked Dome or simultaneously launched an assault on the former eight subordinates of Lord Leon.
The sheer numbers had altered the scale of power.
The interior of the castle was even more sinister than the exterior, composed of narrow and dense corridors like a labyrinth, with one room connected to another, the confined spaces were incredibly suffocating.
"Boom!" A crashing sound came from ahead, followed by a stream of profanity-laden tirades.
Milan rushed forward and saw about five Undead wiping blood off their faces while pulling out potion bottles and gulping down the contents.
There were five corpses nearby.
From their attire, they appeared to be residents of Crying Town.
"What are you doing?" Milan couldn’t help but reveal her presence, "We need to be Stealth, we can’t let anyone detect us!"
Having approximately recovered after consuming the potions, one of the Undead casually tossed the glass bottle aside, "Has anyone detected us now?"
Yes, but you killed them.
"Stealth is exactly like this," he said. After speaking, the Undead once again slipped into Stealth mode and vanished from Milan’s sight.
Milan opened her mouth, feeling that these Undead were misconstruing the Lord’s instructions. She turned her head to look at the five rapidly piled corpses in the corner.
Not exposed yet, but exposing yourself before killing the witnesses, does that even count... never mind, keep moving.
Soon, Milan became numb; she witnessed how the Undead hid their tracks along the way.
In summary, kill everyone who saw them; dead people cannot detect an invasion.
Sometimes even if the opponents hadn’t noticed them, they would take the initiative to attack.
Using the Undead’s rationale, "Preventing the problem before it arises. What if he patrols over here after I pass by? Eliminate all potential factors that could expose Stealth."
Well argued, but Milan felt that if things continued this way, Dome would truly discover them.
The smell of blood was not so easy to conceal, and hundreds of people acting as Killing Machines in "Stealth" within the confined, unventilated spaces of the castle stirred up an indelible, bloody scent.
Milan stopped again because she sensed movement from the Undead up ahead.
There was an unsteady figure farther ahead.
When the Undead actively attacked, his Stealth effect wore off, and his form fully appeared in Milan’s vision.
As an "assassin," he carried a Greatsword.
He had successfully crept up behind the aimlessly wandering man, but the sudden appearance coupled with the weight of the Greatsword made his footsteps snap loudly, piercingly.
He struck first.
The fierce slash cut the man in half at the waist. After roughly dealing with the corpse on the ground, the Undead’s Stealth vanished.
Looking at the incompletely cleaned blood stains on the ground, Milan fell into deep thought.
So this was the style of a Rune Messenger? At that moment, Milan felt she might have never fully understood how to utilize her abilities.
Using the fiercest weapon, lurking behind the opponent, then striking to kill with one blow.
However, there was one slight issue—the Undead need not worry about life or death, but she only had one life, and so this might be a combat style suited only for the Undead.
