Chapter 166: Chapter 152 Abandoned Port Green-Skinned People

"Phew," everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

At this moment, they were immensely grateful that the undead turned to ash after death.

"Miss Brittany, do you think your magic spices might work? Go and obscure their eyes."

"I can try," Miss Brittany replied, her tone uncertain.

In every country, childhood tales of the Abyss were never amiss. Grown-ups would always bring up various terrifying stories to scare the children into obedience—tales of the Abyss, undead, and the like. But for everyone present, it was their first time seeing beings from the Abyss with their own eyes.

Ordinary calamities were merely the products of magic anomalies, but monsters from the Abyss naturally carried an aura of terror.

Some had said before that calamities truly stemmed from the Abyss, and at that moment, everyone wanted to say that they couldn’t be more different.

Bottle after bottle of spices was thrown onto the open ground ahead. Upon landing, they immediately spewed out plumes of spice smoke, weaving together in the air and forming the contours of something much larger.

The feature of sentimental magic, one that made it easy to distinguish friend from foe, allowed Lind to clearly see walls rising from the ground.

As figures emerged from the midst of the spices, most were too indistinct to be recognized clearly, but one could tell at a glance they weren’t living people.

Given Miss Brittany’s average wizardly strength, it was evidently difficult for her to create large-scale illusions. She had to drink several bottles of Magic Potion to replenish her strength before she could finally, barely manage to complete the illusion’s construction.

More undead arrived, and they seemed reasonably healthy, numbering in the dozens.

"My lord? They look normal."

"Not one is to be let in," Lind forbade any margin of error.

The undead became caught up in the illusion, wandering in front of the illusory walls.

Before long, an undead bent over and began to vomit, a familiar scene that made the soldiers who had just relaxed tense up again, raising their crossbows.

They were also thankful they had followed Lind’s correct response. Had they actually let these undead in, they might have already been overrun.

"Hold your fire," Brittany cautioned. "The illusion won’t hold up."

The vomiting undead attracted the attention of other undead, starting a chain of mutations, one after the other.

Lind and the others watched a throng of undead twist and change amidst the plague infection.

"Keep retreating!" He still couldn’t guarantee that a hundred paces was a safe distance. The plague of calamity appeared to spread through proximity, but there might be other factors.

The calamitus undead turned on each other, bursting into clouds of ash one by one.

But this land wasn’t just home to the Former Territory’s watchtower; the undead infected by the plague didn’t all mindlessly return, but scattered like sparks, bouncing around in every direction.

In the northeast direction of Leon Territory, towards Persimmon Town, stray undead made their way back.

They didn’t choose to join Star Dragon Ridge outpost; the only place they could return to was Persimmon Town. However, after rushing back to Newbie Village, the sudden vomiting of one undead drove the situation towards disaster.

Persimmon Town, unprepared, was bare to the touch with seemingly unwell undead.

The oblivious Newbie Village chief didn’t even know what had happened.

In their eyes, the undead had left with an important figure from Leon Territory, so their return must have been for some significant reason. Information could sometimes spread quickly, but at other times, it could be excruciatingly slow.

In an extremely short amount of time, the whole of Persimmon Town was overrun.

Whether undead or those NPCs, after being infected, they didn’t choose to stay put but scattered in all directions.

The Abyss-transformed monsters of Persimmon Town had two paths: one was to climb to the uplands through the pit of lizard people, which had already been slaughtered clean, and the other was to head south.

Uncontrolled, Persimmon Town became a source of the spread.

Farthest North.

Abandoned port.

’One-eyed’ Sitan and ’Triangle-eyed’ Sharuba had successfully led their team to join the Green Skins.

This strong-bodied new race was more fitting of the "New Nobility" title than Lord Leon, born with great strength.

"Whoever wants to return to the Great Rift, go ahead," Sitan said, holding a huge cup carved out of the bone of some massive beast. Its rugged style made Sitan want to grimace.

Noble or savage?

It seemed as if the brains of these Green Skins had also simplified with mutation.

Forget it, all they wanted was a foothold, ideally to wrench power into their own hands from these dim-witted Green Skins.

Strong-bodied, they represented a force to be reckoned with.

Sitan turned to exchange a glance with Sharuba, a smile revealed, both raising their massive cups.

All was understood without words.

They weren’t lying, they genuinely didn’t want to return to the Great Rift, they had had enough of that life before it was even breached, and they weren’t even front-line combat troops.

Especially now.

They had better plans, heading for the Great Frozen Land!

The cold was unsuitable for the survival of creatures, and without creatures, of course there would be no calamity. Most importantly, no new Abyssal Great Rifts were ever heard of in cold regions.

If they took the land route, they’d have to go back to Leon City first, and then head southeast to Cazhen Town, no one wanted to get close to that madman.

Even if the madman didn’t interfere, they would still have to travel south to the Snake Catcher Fortress, after an arduously long journey of perhaps many tens of days, only to get back to Goliath, and then bypass the Frozen Soil Mountain Range through Goliath and reach the east side of Rand Kingdom, continue heading north until finally reaching their destination.

Even for the not-so-large Rand Kingdom, it would force them to take a huge detour that could consume months, or even the better part of a year.

But if they took the sea route, sailing around the Frozen Soil Mountain Range would take hardly any time at all, and they could easily travel from the northern tip of Rand Kingdom’s west side to the north side of the east side.

Suddenly a clamorous noise came from outside.

"What’s going on?" asked the Green Skin leader, whose strength was only of the Upper Rank.

The sound of his voice made Sitan’s ears buzz as he sat beside him.

As a "new race," the Green Skins were very physically strong, but seemed not quite adept at using other powers. Their fierce combat ability, however, made typical Upper Rank individuals no match for them at all. The fact that outsiders like Sitan and Sharuba could sit there quietly perfectly illustrated the differences in strength between them.

"There are some monsters," said a small Green Skin who burst in, looking a bit slow-witted.

No one dared underestimate the small Green Skins; who could believe that "new race" children were stronger than ordinary people from birth, possessing the strength of a Great Knight by their early teens?

It hadn’t been long since the Day of Reckoning, and these mutant new races hadn’t been around long either, yet the Green Skins of the abandoned port seemed to have their own special ability to transform their race.

Who wouldn’t be interested in such an ability?

"He’s covered in blood, black blood, plus pus!" The small Green Skin gesticulated awkwardly, his actions quicker than his speech, flailing about.

"The Abyss!"

Sitan and Sharuba exchanged a look. Things just got serious.

But with Lord Leon present, how could the Abyss be possible... could it be?!
