Chapter 146 - 134 Banshee Lake
Chapter 146: Chapter 134 Banshee Lake
A nameless river flowed from the mysterious fog beside the Ghost Claw Tree on the west side.
It gathered in a lake where the laments of banshees seemed to echo, then followed the terrain eastward, passing between Star Dragon Ridge outpost and Prey Town along the river, heading west through the underground caverns to exit the caves east of Red Dragon Mountain Road.
Further northeast, it finally converged in the large lake on the west side of the mountains in Leon Territory.
There, the stream reached its end.
Lind suspected that the river’s source might be in the ruins on the east side of the Ancient Battlefield, where the lost undead had spoken of a vast body of water, but according to Lind’s limited geographical knowledge, the northwest area of Rand Kingdom was not by the sea.
Rand Kingdom was in the north of the continent, but further north was the Great Frozen Land, inhabited by many tribes and hostile forces, where criminals were sometimes exiled.
On the contrary, near the far east, a month’s journey from Prey Town lay the Frozen Soil Mountain Range. Following it northward, there was a port connecting to an inland sea area shaped like a bird’s beak in the Great Frozen Land.
Although Great Knights could be easily misled, Lind still brought enough support, like the group of Great Knights led by Han of the Hammer Carriers.
Miss Miko was stationed at Star Dragon Ridge outpost, but Lind did not intend to have her come over. It was always good to have a backup, and besides, the effect of the banshee song on him as a Senior Grand Knight would likely be greatly diminished.
Lind led the team moving overnight, in case any soldiers could still be saved. These soldiers’ loyalty to the Old Nobility was unquestionable, and their tenacity was strong; each had the potential to become a Great Knight.
Thus, the casualties had left Lind feeling severely wounded in spirit.
He carried the Broken Sword, took the Gold Badge, and tethered the Catastrophe Warhorse and the Volcano Monster Bird with iron chains on one side.
Faintly, he could already hear the song, stirring the soul, melancholic yet clear and cold.
"We will camp here," Lind turned to look at the soldiers still unaffected, "wait for my signal."
He hoped he would not need to signal.
"Yes!" the men prepared for battle resolutely.
The heart-stirring song was intermittently clear and vague, as if lips exuding fragrance were approaching his ear, whispering softly, the breath grazing the fine hairs in his ear, tickling his ears.
Lind continued forward, but his spirit remained completely unaffected.
The Sun Halo, Moon Halo, and Melting Furnace Crest on his chest interwove and pulsed.
Power was transmitted through his limbs with every beat of his heart.
Broken moonlight broke through the cloud cover, casting its light upon Lind.
The blessing of the Moon Halo manifested, almost boosting Lind’s strength by a fifth on the spot, while the Sun Halo effortlessly absorbed and assimilated all the sudden surge of power.
The knight blessed by the moon was cloaked in a faint moonlight glow.
Parting the foliage ahead, his view suddenly cleared.
He was at a pond in a barren forest, not very large; the cold night wind skimmed across the water, hitting Lind, but was instantly neutralized by the high temperature of his body, with only his short hair slightly stirring.
The song remained ambiguous.
A woman’s figure appeared ahead, unclothed.
Under the moonlight, she faced away from Lind, half her body emerging from the water.
The smooth skin on her back was captivating.
Feeling Lind’s gaze, she slightly turned her body, revealing two peaks that not even the moonlight could veil, followed by a stream of water appearing beside them.
The woman suddenly sank her body into the water, leaving only her head exposed.
She slowly moved towards Lind, creating ripples on the surface of the water.
As she neared, she once again emerged from the water, and the peaks turned into waterfalls.
Beautiful!
Lind gazed at her face, then suddenly swung his hand; the flames wrapped around the Broken Sword without warning, tracing a flaming crescent as he swiftly swung his arm.
The woman was split in two.
The song continued.
"An illusion?"
Lind frowned and, testing the waters, threw the Lost Soul Chains at the singing woman, but failed to catch her; instead, they splashed "splash" into the water.
Withdrawing the chains, Lind looked at the woman who persistently sang to him, his expression growing stranger by the minute.
She acted like a "program," flirting with Lind and continuously singing; her role likely was to lure people into the lake.
But Lind’s spirit was very resilient, utterly unaffected by her song.
This led to the bizarre standoff currently at hand.
His sword swept through, hitting nothing but air.
If Lind turned to walk away, however, she would immediately follow.
It was somewhat like the special spices produced by Miss Brittany; Lind even wished that she would create this kind of spice.
A perfect NPC program.
"You’re still following?"
Lind quickly circled the Banshee Lake, but the woman carefully did not drift away with the current. Had she done so, Lind was confident he could have led her all the way to Leon Territory and had her sing at the entrance.
Not just players exploit bugs; he knew how to as well.
Going into the water was clearly out of the question.
Lind tried throwing the Broken Sword tied with chains into the water, stirring it around without feeling any resistance—indicating there likely wasn’t a large calamity lurking below.
But there was one strange point: if the soldiers had already died in Banshee Lake, their bodies should have floated to the surface, yet none were visible now.
"Still following?"
He grabbed the Broken Sword with a backward motion, using it as a hoe to dig at the edge of Banshee Lake.
The pit was roughly a meter in diameter, water rushed in, and the half-naked woman immediately came over singing.
Lind smiled and pushed the nearby soil into the pit, blocking the flow of water.
The singing woman was now trapped in the water pit, unable to return to Banshee Lake. As Lind circled the lake, with the flow cut off, she could only gaze at him from a distance.
After much thought, Lind planted the Broken Sword in the ground, grabbed the Lost Soul Chains, and leaped into the lake.
The lake water was icy cold, the Moon Halo pulsated with the power of flames, maintaining the temperature within his body, and the Melting Furnace Crest intertwined with the Moon Halo’s beat.
"Serve the Furnace"—the flames had long since merged with Lind’s heartbeat. The more flames nearby, the stronger the enhancement could be. Standing in magma might double his strength, but even in the current situation, the combination of his two innate abilities and the internal combustion of flames made Lind’s condition underneath the water excellent.
He felt no cold whatsoever.
Others using "Serve the Furnace" would be scalded to death, but Lind had the innate talent brought by the Melting Furnace Crest. The flames not only did not harm him but healed his wounds instead.
The waters of Banshee Lake were not clear, and with nightfall, visibility was almost zero.
It was only a few meters deep.
After a few steps, Lind kicked a corpse, and moving forward, there were more bodies, even skeletons.
The oddity about these bodies was that they weren’t tied down yet sank to the bottom instead of floating up.
Lind tried swimming upward; the buoyancy of the water was still there.
He buried his doubts deep within his heart.
Continuing forward, his gaze caught a faint purple light pulsating in the deeper water.
A familiar light—the Carrion Queen’s Broken Sword and the Gold Badge both emitted a similar glow, but theirs was green, far less captivating than the purple light before him.
Drawing closer.
Lind reached out and grabbed the purple light, and suddenly a pull tried to fix him in place, but Lind reacted quicker. The Lost Soul Chains contracted with his will, pulling him to the surface.
Splash—!
He was out!
The moment he landed, flames burst out, enveloping Lind entirely.
When the flames subsided, his body was completely dry.
Lind looked at the object emitting purple light in his hand—it was a peculiar horn adorned with a twisted pattern of a woman’s face.
