132: Chapter 132 Word Strips 132: Chapter 132 Word Strips “Qingqing, don’t talk nonsense, Li Mengmeng is just my friend, there’s nothing going on,” Ye Shikai immediately retorted, and Su Qingyu’s expression turned sour.
Influenced by Luo Shiqi, she had grown particularly sensitive towards the women around her.
“Who’s Li Mengmeng?” Su Qingyu said coldly.
Ye Shikai seemed to feel her chill, though Li Mengmeng was truly just a friend.
But now, as Su Ziqing had exaggerated things, it appeared more like an affair.
“She was my childhood friend.
I happened to run into her when I went back to my old home,” Ye Shikai hurriedly explained, and also frowned at Su Ziqing.
“Big sis, you don’t know, last time in the bar, brother-in-law was there chatting and drinking with her,” Su Ziqing persisted, trying to argue her point.
“Alright, Qingqing, have you forgotten you secretly went to the bar last time?” said Su Qingyu.
“Okay, sis,” Su Ziqing muttered, “It was just a bartender.”
“Say that again,” Ye Shikai said after hearing that, his expression suddenly changed and his cold tone scared the three women.
What he hated the most was having people around him discriminated against.
He had experienced that himself due to the poor family conditions during his childhood.
Despite Su Qingyu’s typically carefree nature, she was a college student and should be responsible for her words, especially ones that discriminated against others.
Considering Mrs.
Zhao’s average background and Li Mengmeng teaching herself bartending to support her family via a bar job, he greatly respected that, which made him truly angry hearing Su Ziqing speak so.
“Brother-in-law, I…” Su Ziqing, seeing him getting angry, didn’t know what to say.
“That’s enough, uncle.
Qingqing just said it casually,” Han Ruoyao intervened seeing his serious expression, knowing she had touched a sore spot.
“Honey, Qingqing didn’t mean to upset you, let’s not be angry and continue eating,” Su Qingyu added a spoon of vegetables to her bowl,
“I’ve lost my appetite.” Ye Shikai slammed his chopsticks down on the table, stood up, walked to the door, and left, banging the door behind him, leaving the three women shocked.
Ye Shikai hailed a cab to the office and then sat there sullenly, surprised even An Lan who wasn’t used to seeing him like this; usually, he came in late or took leave.
“You’re quite early today, what’s wrong?
You seem upset,” said An Lan, smiling in her professional outfit, radiating a mature charm that rivalled Su Qingyu.
“It’s nothing, Lan,” Ye Shikai replied.
“Alright, keep it up next time.
There’s a lot going on at the company,” An Lan gave an encouraging gesture and walked into her office.
The day dragged on, Ye Shikai feeling aimless and bored, completing days of work in a few hours.
No wonder people say white-collar work wastes life, he thought as he opened his computer to play some games.
In the president’s office, An Lan and Su Qingyu sat on the couch discussing something.
“Qingyu, I heard you were kidnapped yesterday, what happened?” An Lan asked worriedly.
“Yes, I was kidnapped by a group, but I’m fine now,” Su Qingyu smiled, An Lan was a longtime close friend, and her concern warmed Su Qingyu’s heart.
“That’s good, thankfully the board doesn’t know, otherwise who knows what they would say,” An Lan complained somewhat.
“Let it be, they are the company’s veterans.
I respect them for my father’s sake, if not for their own,” Su Qingyu replied with resignation.
Ever since her father, Su Pengzhan, had put her in charge of the company, it had developed rapidly but the board of old men had become slothful, opposing beneficial changes and sometimes even causing company losses with their meddling.
“By the way, Qingyu, Mr.
Su told me you got married, why didn’t you tell me?” An Lan smiled, as she had heard about Su Qingyu’s marriage from Su Pengzhan recently.
“We just registered, haven’t had the wedding yet,” Su Qingyu reasoned, now that her relationship with Ye Shikai was settled, she thought it was time to make it public.
“Really, such a secret, you didn’t even let me see,” An Lan teased.
“If you want to meet him, I can have him come see you.
And just so you know, he works at the company,” Su Qingyu said, taking out her phone and dialing a number.
“Hello, where are you?” Su Qingyu asked softly.
“I’m at the 4S store looking at cars, I have some savings and am thinking of buying a car to drive,” Ye Shikai had reached the 4S dealership and received Su Qingyu’s call, hoping she isn’t going to veto his car purchase, recalling the jokes about men losing their secret funds to their partners.
“That’s fine, go ahead and buy it.
About this morning, don’t be mad at Qingqing, she just spoke without thinking.”
“That’s settled then, consider it a lesson for her,” Ye Shikai said, his anger subsiding, and they chatted briefly before hanging up.
“Ah, he’s buying a car, sorry, you’ll have to wait,” Su Qingyu said.
“No worries, we can meet some other time,” An Lan replied, recently having learned that the person was actually an employee from their company, intrigued that someone there had managed to win her over.
“I have some other things to tend to, I should go now,” An Lan reminded, “Be careful these days.”
Back at the public relations department, An Lan saw Ye Shikai’s desk was unexpectedly empty, murmuring, “What’s going on, he’s missing again, just after I praised him, he vanished.” She planned to seriously scold him upon his return.
“President An, this is a note from Ye Shikai for you,” at that moment, a girl from the department approached An Lan with a note.
“Okay, get back to work,” An Lan said, gently opening the note and after reading it, stood there frozen, her gaze blank and hands trembling, the note falling to the ground.
Note content: “Lan, I’ve finished today’s work, planning to buy a car to drive, couldn’t find you so I wrote this note for you, I’ll be a car owner too now, haha.”
