Chapter 90: Iris: Underestimated

A gasoline fog builds in my stomach, ready to blow any moment now. It’s only the spark that’s missing, but I can feel the heat coming closer with each tease Lucas performs on me.

All eyes are on us. Well, not all of them, but it feels that way. They all know that we’re dating thanks to the fake dating deal we had in the past and Lucas running his mouth to the world. At least now it’s real, although that might be the reason why it has become difficult to tell Lucas to stop.

Because I like him teasing me too.

Lowering his head next to mine until I can feel the hairs of his beard brush against my skin, Lucas gently leads his hands to the mouse and taps on it before typing in the password to Adders website and doing his Managerial magic on my computer.

I should be paying attention and believe me when I say I’m trying. But every time he says something and I feel the vibrations of his voice in my ear drum as his skin brushes against mine, my mind goes blank. Thanks to his ocean scent that’s overpowering the lavender being emitted by the dispensers around the office, I’m getting three-dimensional sensations of him all over.

What’s left is a taste of him and it’ll turn four-dimensional. Damn, I’m fucked.

"Once you enter your password, it’ll unlock automatically every time you try to log in," Lucas tries to explain to me how to work with our website. I have an article from eight years ago posted by the then editors of Adder which explains in depth how to apply makeup on different skin shades and face shapes that I need to give to the writer I’m working with.

"Iris, are you listening to me?"

"Y-yes, sir."

"Please call me Luke." It comes out sounding like a plea. He takes me by surprise.

"What?"

"Never mind. Did you hear what I just told you?"

"Maybe if you told her without smothering her like that in front of other employees she would feel a lot more comfortable and listen to you rambling on about your website."

Bella!

Reality hits me like a wrecking ball at the sound of her voice and all my focus returns to me. If I was horny and she spoke, I’m sure as hell I’d go dry in an instant down there. That’s how bad I hate listening to her voice in the least expected places.

"Why do you all look surprised? I’m here to work with you on this magazine aren’t I?"

The office springs to life at her questions with a few of the team members even going out of their way so they can ask Bella for autographs and photos even though they refused to assist me with the website saying they were busy with work.

Like a childish idiot, I pout to no one but myself, turning back to my computer and clicking on the search bar. Lucas rubs my shoulder twice and kisses my forehead under all the watchful eyes as he makes this deep-throated groan that I’m all too familiar with now.

The lively office turns almost deadly with how silent everyone gets until Brandon slaps his small notepad on his desk and starts twirling around on his chair like an embarrassed high schooler. The others just look away, a few who haven’t yet mastered the art of poker faces showing off how embarrassed they are with their glitchy behavior.

"Wait for me here okay? I’ll be back once I’m done discussing with her how we’re going to handle all this social media marketing gig okay?"

"Is it going to be only you two? Don’t you guys need professional help at least?"

"Yes, we do. That’s why I called Mary. She’ll be our photographer and mentor. I mean, she knows a thing or two about content—being a vlogger as she is."

Mhmm. I can trust her with my boyfriend.

Feeling a sense of ease now that I know they won’t be alone, I nod at Lucas, returning his kiss on his forehead. At first, it’s genuine, but when I see Bella glaring at me from under those cute eyelashes of hers, I suddenly turn into a freak and kiss him out of spite.

"That’s enough you two. If you want to fuck around get a room," comes Mary’s rebuking voice as she rolls her eyes at us. She called me during the weekend and we talked about everything that happened at the event leading to Lucas’ confession—including how Bella challenged me and said she could take Lucas from me.

It’s no wonder I thought I saw her scan Bella from top to bottom when she appeared by the doors. She was looking for pointers to diss later when I have to sulk in her room and she has to soothe me.

"Thank you for that, i was beginning to worry they were actually going to do it on her desk."

"Me too," Brandon adds with a playful smirk on his lips. He’s been getting better acquainted with his senior colleagues now and if I do say so myself, his work has been in good condition too.

"Shut up if you don’t want to be fired," Lucas hisses at him.

"Your girlfriend would be sad with me gone."

"What did you say?"

"I-I said your girlfriend would be..."

"Ugh, let’s go already," Mary grabs Lucas’ hand and pulls him with her to his office. " His office is this way, Ma’am," she adds turning back and gesturing for Bella to follow them.

Bella scoffs. "I know where it is, I’ve probably been there more than anyone in this company." Adjusting her dress with a smile tugging at her lips as she glances at me from below her lashes, she passes by my desk in a very much deliberately done slow motion.

I do my best to ignore her but when I hear Lucas’ voice saying her name when she enters his office, all the power in me is immediately drained.

Brandon slides his chair towards mine with a curious look on his face. I know what he’s about to ask next.

"Did you check out today’s trending topic on Twitter?

I roll my eyes. "Let me guess, Lucas Andrews?"

Brandon winces a little. "Mhmm, you’re close but that’s not entirely true. It’s Lucas’ girlfriend."

I almost let out a shocked expression but hold my mouth before I do. "Did they already take pictures of me?" I ask but he shakes his head instead.

"Nobody knows who you are...but everyone knows Bella and she’s number one on the prime suspects of Lucas’ girlfriend."

"Bella?"

"Yes."

"We don’t even look the same," I let my hands flail in the air.

"I know, that makes it more annoying."

"How?"

Brandon shrugs. I rub my face. What’s up with today being such a shitty day?

"Be careful. A lot of women want a piece of him."

I bite my bottom lip as my eyes focus on the tampered glass squinting them as if that’ll give me super vision to see inside. "You bet they do."

One of them is actually sitting with him in his office and probably imagining herself being the one receiving all the love and attention that I’m getting from him.

And here I thought that once he was my boyfriend all my relationship problems would be solved.
