Chapter 48: Lucas: Romance story

LIVING WITH Iris has been a blast for the past week. I’ve got to know more about her than I did before, and I like everything I’ve come to know about her.

Like how she can’t sleep without cuddling something. It could be a pillow or her blanket, but she HAS to be hugging something and that thing happened to be me all week because she slept in my room the entire time. I loved being her plushy every chance I got. On the plus side, I got a good feel of her every time she felt the urge to hug something, satisfying the greedy urge to cling to her that keeps growing with each day like a virus.

Then comes the cooking. She’s so good at it that for the first time since I’ve known him, Tim trusted her enough to ask for her help in making side dishes. I’ve got a feeling he just wanted to spend more time with her. They all wanted a chance to spend time with her, and they made sure to fill that space once she was in her corner, writing.

Between the two of them, she seemed to like spending more time with Paul because they share the same weird taste in books. Dark romance. When I tried reading a book she strongly recommended me to read, I couldn’t finish the first Chapter alone.

It started with porn, or as she likes to call it—smut.

But for them, it was the essence of life, the hidden gem beneath the plot. Every page they screamed their lungs out to each other in the front porch of her room was smut. Every fucking page. And that wasn’t all of it.

They both like the same manga, the same movies, the same anime. I had to give Paul a mini leave just so he could spend more time with her. I might be able to bring out that lovable cutesy smile and face she makes when we’re alone, but Paul brings out the genuine creative side to her that I love to see as much as her sexy side.

A perk that came with leaving the two alone was her finding inspiration in their shared moment. She’d make Paul and Tim recreate some scenes for her whenever they popped into her head, immediately jotting them down once they seemed good enough for her book. Then she’d write the damn thing in my room at night, asking questions and acting out the parts she could.

I’m amazed she was able to collect herself so quickly after the fight with Jerald, though a part of it might have been because her grandparents called every day to check up on her and give her updates about their well-being in Dubai. I could see how much they love her just as much as I do. Although, my love might be stronger because I feel like I’ll die from a rapid heartbeat every time she touches me, not that she has noticed that’s how I feel about her at all.

Iris is strong, creative, cute, sexy, and independent. A one-woman commando. And I’m in love with that woman, so much that I feel like confessing every night we spend together. Especially now that her grandparents are about to return in five days.

She has already packed her clothes and said she’s returning home when the deadline comes close to three days. I’m already dreading the day, but what can I do? It’s not like I can just tell her to not go home. She’s not my girlfriend, and even if she were, it would still be rude.

When I left this morning, she said she was going to meet up with Jerald to settle things because she didn’t want her grandparents to come to a broken friendship. I agreed with her reasoning, leaving Paul to attend to her needs whilst escorting her to the Adams residence.

I wish I was there right now making sure Jerald isn’t lashing out at her, but I’m not having a very pleasant meeting either. It’s not as grueling, but it’s just as unpleasant as the one Iris and her brother are having.

"So, have you come to a decision yet? We have a month left before my vice is appointed, and the event dates have been shifted to allow the effective promotion of next month’s issue of the magazine. Fucking idiots, what were they doing selecting the same day as the release?"

"I’m the one who suggested that day, Dad," I mumble scratching my stubble and blushing. I guess the pressure got to me and I selected the last day of May on a whim. Fucking stupid for real.

Dad uncomfortably shifts on his chair. "Sorry, I didn’t know you..." he trails off, scratching the back of his neck.

The embarrassing atmosphere is lifted when his house help brings us wine, pouring it into our glasses before leaving, gracefully. I can tell she’s a hospitality student just by merely looking at her, a combination of etiquette and professionalism—the mannerisms my Dad treasures the most.

And he calls me a perfectionist. It’s clearly in the blood.

"So, what have you decided?" He gets back to the main topic, another one of his traits that I adopted.

"I will take on the position."

You’d think a guy who has been expecting me to say these words ever since I started working for the company would rejoice now that I finally said them. But no. Dad drops his teacup straight on the small table between us, shattering the expensive chinaware into pieces.

We’re seated outside for goodness sake. There is lawn everywhere, a little bit of trees, and lots of flowers here and there, but the dark green lawn still dominates, and the cup still fell on the table. "That’s a bad omen," Dad says taking a napkin from the table and wiping his trousers.

"Are you watching K-dramas again?"

"What do you mean again, I’ve been watching them since before I met your mother!"

"Yeah, I know," I reply picking the broken pieces from the ground and taking them to a trash can nearby. After calling for one of his attendants to help clean up the table, I return to my seat.

"What changed your mind?" Dad asks, eyes intently focused on me.

Returning the gesture, I reply with a line I’ve been practicing on the mirror three days ago after he called me and scheduled our meeting. "The woman you told to seduce me did a pretty good job, and low I’m her puppet. I’m just doing as the queen commanded."

His face turns beet red in an instant, and he looks away. "A-are you talking about, Iris?"

I raise my eyebrows curiously. "Is there another woman you sent to seduce me?"

"No. She was the only one, but hey, I was only joking. I didn’t think she’d take it seriously."

"Of course, she was going to take it seriously! You threatened to tell her grandparents about us!"

"Oh, right. I did that too." Not replying, I give Dad a subtle glare, making sure not to offend him. "What? It worked, didn’t it? I got what I wanted and you guys are now in love, for real this time."

It’stheother

wayaround. I’mtheonlyonewho’sinlove, Idon’tthinksheis, yet.

Placing my elbow on my thighs, I lean in and place my chin in my palm, looking at my father like the young son he remembers from the past who needs guidance. "Dad, when did you know it was the right time to confess your love to Mom?"

Again with a shocked look. "You haven’t confessed to her yet?" He whispers through gritted teeth.

"Yes."

Wait, why’shemadaboutthat?

"Hah. You’re going to be the death of me. What are her grandparents going to think if they somehow find out about you two? Why are you such a slow poke with these things, Lucas?"

I don’t reply. He’s right, I am being slow with Iris, but only because I don’t want to chase her away. If I’m too hasty, she might get fed up with me before I even get real with her.

"Is there something stopping you from telling her how you feel?"

"Yes, but I can’t tell you what it is," I reply.

"Figures. You’re too blunt and honest to not have told me the truth at this point." He sighs again. "Look, I’m sorry I told her to seduce you, I didn’t think she’d really do it."

"I’m glad you did though, you’ve made it possible for me to spend a lot of time with her," I blurt out.

Dad chuckles. "You like her that much?"

"Yes, I do."

"Then there’s only one thing that you must do as you wait for a proper time to tell her you love her."

"And what is that?"

"Show her your love in the art of actions. Prove you’re a reliable man, make her see you in a different light. I don’t know when will be the right time to confess, that is something only people connected to the supernatural would know. But if you prove your worth as a man to her, I’m sure when the time comes that you feel like confessing, she’ll already be ready for you."

"Dad," I kneel next to him, "Tell me more, you’re the best advisor ever!"

"Well, experience is the best teacher after all." I tilt my head to the side, confused by his sudden wise-man mode and he laughs. "Have i ever told you how i confessed to your mother?"

Shaking my head, I sit one the lawn, readying myself for the story of a life time.

"Let’s wait for our food first. You need to have a full stomach if you’re going to listen to the entire thing."

As if on cue, my stomach rumbles in protest and we both laugh. Checking my chat with Iris and the time, i notice how it’s been thirty minutes since she sent a text saying she arrived at the Adams residence.

I just hope nothing bad happens whilst I’m listening to my dad’s live romance story.
