Chapter 306: Chapter 193: You didn’t call off the engagement with Ning Yan’er because of me, did you?
Xi Mohan turned his head towards Ning Yan’er who was standing there with an extremely unpleasant look on her face. With just a slight furrow of his brows, he spoke to her indifferently, "Yan’er, I have already explained everything to you before. This matter is a result of both our actions. Whatever compensation you want, you can discuss it with my assistant. I will try my best to satisfy your demands."
"Compensation?" Ning Yan’er heard this word and burst into a mocking laugh, her face filled with sarcasm as she glanced at Ning Wan and then at Xi Mohan, speaking through gritted teeth, "I really don’t know what problems there could be between us. Haven’t we been doing well together abroad all these years? The moment you return, you talk about dissolving our engagement and brush me off with ’incompatibility of character.’ Xi Mohan, what exactly do you take me, Ning Yan’er, for?"
This morning when Xi Mohan mentioned dissolving the engagement, she thought he was joking with her. But when she called again, his resolve seemed real—he was truly determined to end the engagement.
The reason was simple: she, Ning Yan’er, deserved better, and he, Xi Mohan, was not suitable for her.
Initially, Ning Wan believed that Xi Mohan was just being sulky about a past incident, but now seeing Ning Wan, she had a belated realization that their engagement being terminated definitely had something to do with this woman.
With this thought, Ning Yan’er’s gaze towards Ning Wan grew even colder as she said directly to her, "Ning Wan, you must be pleased now, right? Snatching your sister’s boyfriend is just like you and your mother, both shameless."
Ning Wan originally didn’t want to involve herself too much in the affairs between Xi Mohan and Ning Yan’er, fearing that she might inadvertently attract trouble—after all, she’s all too prone to getting caught in the crossfire.
Yet without her saying a word, Ning Yan’er turned her gun directly on her.
Especially since Ning Yan’er actually brought up her mother.
Her expression turned icy, Ning Wan looked straight at Ning Yan’er, her eyes full of anger, but within a few seconds she burst into a mocking laugh and said to Ning Yan’er, "Sister, it’s obvious that you can’t hold onto your man, and now you blame me for seducing him. Just how much do you hate me?"
She paused, then continued with a laugh, "But, you know, I really enjoy seeing that annoyed yet helpless look on your face."
Ning Wan’s words were too arrogant and made others feel she deserved a good beating.
And Ning Yan’er, her face grew even more sullen, her eyes blazing like fire as she looked straight at Xi Mohan, biting her teeth slightly softer in tone, "Mo Han, I can overlook what happened between you and Ning Wan, but you should know, we’ve been together for so many years. Can you really let go of our past feelings so easily?"
Because Xi Mohan had just heard Ning Wan’s words, his gaze had been fixed on her. Upon hearing Ning Yan’er ask him, he returned his gaze to the proud Ning Yan’er and after a long moment he finally spoke, "Yan’er, the decision to dissolve our engagement was mine alone, and has nothing to do with Ning Wan."
Ning Yan’er didn’t expect Xi Mohan to respond like that, her eyes widening in disbelief, seemingly truly unforeseen by this outcome. For several seconds, because of her own pride, she felt unbearable to stay any longer. Gritting her teeth, she said, "I won’t agree to this matter so easily, Mo Han. I don’t know what got into you, but you should be clear that our engagement was also approved by your grandfather."
Having said that, she turned her gaze back to Ning Wan and coldly sneered, "Mo Han, you should also be very clear that your grandfather would never allow Ning Wan to enter the doors of the Xi Family."
...
After dropping those words, Ning Yan’er left on her high heels, and even though she was supposed to be in a dire state, her silhouette still carried a hint of pride.
There were quite a few patients around, and now only Ning Wan and the tall and imposing figure of Xi Mohan were left standing beside her at the lakeside.
She raised her eyes to the man before her, colliding directly with the depths of his profound gaze, but without a trace of fear. Instead, she smiled wryly and said with self-deprecating humor, "Xi Mohan, your decision to dissolve the engagement with Ning Yan’er, it couldn’t really be because of me, could it?"
