Chapter 162: Chapter 87: Did You Know Wanwan Before?
Ning Wan walked straight across and sat down opposite Song Qiao, likewise sitting cross-legged on the carpet. Her slender, pale fingers began to sort through some belongings that had not yet been neatly packed into the suitcase, her face wearing a relieved smile. She calmly looked up at Song Qiao across from her and said, "Qiaoqiao, before you know it, you’ve found a partner again, that’s great!"
Although their relationship had always been very close, after all, they were both girls, and there were many things they couldn’t do for each other, even... when Song Qiao’s grandfather needed five hundred thousand for surgery, she couldn’t help.
Song Qiao paused, staring quietly at Ning Wan in front of her. For many years, her life had been entwined with this girl. Perhaps because they both had similarly pitiful experiences, at first there was a sense of commiseration, which later turned into a mutual reliance. Over the past few years, they had attended classes, finished classes, worked part-time jobs to scrape together living expenses, and even played, cried, laughed, and went crazy together.
She was always easy-going, but it was difficult for her to accept someone into her world. Before she met Ning Wan, she never thought she would have a ’Best Chinese Girlfriend’ in her life.
After calming her emotions, Song Qiao set aside the item in her hand, lowered her eyes slightly, looking at the things already packed in her suitcase, "Wanwan, I suddenly don’t want to move anymore. Why don’t we just continue living together?"
If she moved out, Wanwan would be living alone. How could she possibly be at ease with that?
Ning Wan was taken aback, then her face regained a faint smile, "Qiaoqiao, you don’t need to worry about me. Since Lu Jingchen wants you to move in with him, then just move in. Or is his house not as good as ours? That shouldn’t be the case, though..."
Lu Jingchen’s status in An City was unmatched by anyone. Someone with status, background, and good looks like him, other men no matter how outstanding would not know when they could compete with Lu Jingchen.
Initially, Ning Wan really didn’t want Song Qiao to be with Lu Jingchen, maybe also because she knew this man. Moreover, Xi Mohan and Lu Jingchen used to be good brothers, and she also felt a kind of resentment towards Lu Jingchen because of her hatred for Xi Mohan.
She now believed that if Song Qiao ended up together with Lu Jingchen, it was inevitable that she would encounter Xi Mohan, and the chances were not small.
Lu Jingchen previously had Zuo Yuqing, but in the end, Yuqing did not end up with him. It was unclear whose fault it was. Ning Wan had initially heard gossip that Yuqing was with another man, and that man... Ning Wan also somewhat guessed it was probably Xi Mohan, but now Xi Mohan was engaged to Ning Yan’er. From the beginning to the end, Xi Mohan said he liked Yan’er, but it was unclear why the rumors had him being with Yuqing in the past.
However, this love quadrangle did not cause Lu Jingchen and Xi Mohan, the pair of good brothers, to fall out. It was unknown whether it was because their relationship was too strong, or if there was another reason.
Thinking of that man, Ning Wan’s eyes flashed with a swirl of complex emotions, half-closing her eyes, but seeing nothing.
Song Qiao looked at Ning Wan across from her, unsure if it was her misconception, she seemed to see an unfamiliar, cold expression on Ning Wan’s face that rejected people thousands of miles away, but because the expression was fleeting, she did not see it clearly.
Today, Song Qiao’s hair was tied up, but after returning to her room, she let it down completely, her long, smooth, and black hair cascading over her shoulders. She tucked the hair falling in front of her face behind her ear and then looked at Ning Wan opposite her, emotionally saying, "Wanwan... I can’t bear to leave you!"
"So you decide not to move and live with Lu Jingchen and instead stay here to accompany me?" Ning Wan put all the things in front of her into the suitcase, then rested her elbows on her thighs, propping her chin, and quipped with a laugh, "But I reckon even if you wanted to stay and live with me, that guy Lu Jingchen wouldn’t agree. Just look at how domineering he is. So you’d better obediently move in with him. After all... didn’t you say he lives in a villa? Why not enjoy life a bit too?"
Song Qiao, "..." Why did she feel like Ning Wan was eager to get rid of her?
Ning Wan continued, "You staying won’t make a difference. I’m going to Lin City with the professor for an inspection in a few days, and I might be gone for half a month. I won’t feel at ease with you here alone!"
"When did you decide to go for an inspection?"
"Hmm... just yesterday. I was planning to tell you yesterday, but you didn’t come back, did you? You had me worried all night! Hurry up and pack. Once you’re done, you and he owe me a big meal!"
Song Qiao watched Ning Wan close her suitcase, even helping her to pull up the zipper, and couldn’t help but feel a bit amused, "Why do I feel like you can’t wait to pack me off?"
"No, that’s your misconception!" Ning Wan stood up, her smile mischievous, with a hint of playfulness on her face, teasing Song Qiao, "I have decided to package you and your luggage together and sell you to Lu Jingchen, not to give you away... giving you away would be far too cheap for that man. After all, I have raised you for so many years!"
"I’ve also raised you for so many years. Shouldn’t I find a man to sell you off too?"
"I’m really in need these days, recently feeling like my IQ is dropping. I’ve never actually had a real romance. Introduce a man to me quickly, one strong enough to take on your Lu Jingchen, otherwise how can I help you if you get bullied?"
Song Qiao, "..." Enough already, geez, feels like we can’t even properly be besties anymore!
"Let’s go, I was worried about you last night and don’t think you ate well. You didn’t have breakfast today either!" Ning Wan had a smile on her face the whole time, clearly in a good mood.
Song Qiao resignedly took her luggage from Ning Wan’s hands and hummed an acknowledgment.
When Lu Jingchen saw the two girls walking out together, his eyes fell on the suitcase in Song Qiao’s hand. Knowing she hadn’t packed much, he didn’t say anything and just took the suitcase from her. His gaze then fell on Ning Wan, his tone neither cold nor warm, "Let’s have lunch together at noon, consider it my thanks for taking care of Qiaoqiao these past years!"
Song Qiao’s suitcase wasn’t big, packed only with a few sets of everyday clothes and some necessities. Lu Jingchen felt there really was no need to bring luggage; it was just a gesture to show that Song Qiao was really moving in to live with him.
Anyway, once there, whatever she needed, he could just have someone prepare it. Plus, he had instructed the servants to start preparing some daily necessities Song Qiao might need before coming back.
Hearing Lu Jingchen’s words, Ning Wan didn’t shy away at all, the corners of her mouth curving up into a sly smile, "Of course you guys should treat me to a meal, but don’t think you can fob me off with just one lunch. Right, Qiaoqiao? Wouldn’t you agree?"
When Ning Wan said this, she didn’t forget to drag Song Qiao in with her.
Song Qiao looked to the heavens speechlessly but nodded her head anyway, approvingly chiming in, "That’s right!"
As for what was right, she chose not to elaborate.
Ning Wan didn’t leave immediately with Song Qiao; she hadn’t rested well last night and was beginning to feel sleepy now. Deciding to take a nap first, they could agree on a time to have lunch together at noon.
Song Qiao had no objections. She instructed Ning Wan a few words, then left with Lu Jingchen.
Watching Lu Jingchen considerately carry Song Qiao’s luggage, even holding her hand tightly all the time except when pressing the elevator button, Ning Wan felt a bit of turmoil in her heart.
Lu Jingchen was too mysterious. Even though she met him in her teens because of Xi Mohan, her relationship with Xi Mohan wasn’t good at all during those years. Most of the time, it was her clinging to Xi Mohan, and she didn’t know Lu Jingchen very well.
All she knew was that Lu Jingchen was not a simple man.
Having lived with Song Qiao for so many years, although they took care of each other, Song Qiao was much more mature than her. In many cases, it was Song Qiao who took care of her.
Watching the elevator doors close and Lu Jingchen and Song Qiao disappear from her sight, Ning Wan closed the door and suddenly laughed with relief, yawning and heading back to her room to continue sleeping.
Little did Song Qiao know, this meal today would be the last time she saw Ning Wan in years to come.
...
Lu Jingchen had his driver drop him off at the company first. The handsome man enveloped Song Qiao into his arms for a deep kiss right outside the company entrance. He only released her when the girl in his arms was almost out of breath, his voice slightly hoarse as he spoke, "I’ll go upstairs to handle some documents. Have the driver take you back to the villa first. Settle in, then come find me at the office. We’ll have lunch with Ning Wan at noon, okay?"
Song Qiao’s breath was unstable after being kissed, still not quite used to being suddenly ambushed by this man.
It took her a moment to regain her composure before she raised her face to look at his handsome features, her eyes filled with a mix of confusion or contemplation. Her lips moved slightly as she finally asked the question that had been on her mind, "Did you and Wanwan know each other before...?"
