Chapter 49: Chapter 46 The Splendid Peach Blossoms in March
Qi Longbing’s smile was teasing, a devilishly handsome mischief revealing itself in his blue eyes, as radiant as the resplendent peach blossoms of March.
It was as if the voice from his soul had penetrated directly into the other’s, causing the person in slumber to stir. Yet, she did not awaken but murmured something instead.
"Brother Long..." A voice so faint it was barely audible unless one listened closely.
Yet, in the silent environment, it was eerily clear.
Qi Longbing’s countenance turned gloomy in an instant. He didn’t speak, and the smile at the corner of his mouth gradually faded away...
...
「The next day.」
When Hua Xiaomo awoke, her vision was filled with an expanse of clear blue sky. However, she felt no chill; on the contrary, her body felt pleasantly warm.
This place... This is the top of the tower!
Good heavens! How did I manage to fall asleep here so obliviously?
She realized she had been sleeping on the sofa. She then noticed the white suit jacket she was wearing. Uh, is this his?
She glanced around but saw no sign of him. Hua Xiaomo stood up from the sofa. In an inconspicuous corner, she spotted a figure sprawled on the ground. It’s Qi Longbing!
She walked over to him, holding the jacket she had just taken off—his jacket.
He was still not awake, his long eyelashes firmly closed. His handsome, moon-like face carried a gentle softness, involuntarily stirring a sense of compassion in anyone who saw him.
What a moving, angelic face! One can’t sense even a trace of evil from it.
But the moment she thought of his smile and the words he had said, her expression darkened slightly.
Hua Xiaomo casually draped the jacket she was holding over him and turned to walk away.
Suddenly, a voice cut through the morning air, "You woke up and didn’t wake me? That’s rather selfish of you!"
Annoyance welled up inside her. Hua Xiaomo looked at him, suppressed her feelings, and said, "President Qi, good morning."
Qi Longbing smiled, looking at her. "Help me up." He extended his hand.
Hua Xiaomo looked at him and smiled as well. "President Qi, you couldn’t have become this feeble overnight, could you?"
"One night, and you’ve become so sharp-tongued?" Qi Longbing said, a smile in his eyes as he watched her. "Is it because you, the ’hunter,’ haven’t been eaten by the ’wolf’ yet and are feeling smug?"
"..." Hua Xiaomo was rendered speechless; she had indeed been very tired the previous night.
As for what happened after I fell asleep, I can’t quite remember. But nothing much really happened, right? I’m still me, and Qi Longbing is still Qi Longbing.
For some reason, looking at him now, I feel his true nature might not be as evil as his appearance suggests.
"Your eyes are so bright... like a mountain stream. Xiao Mo... stay with me, will you?" he asked unexpectedly, slowly rising from the ground.
"ACHOO!" A sneeze erupted. Qi Longbing covered his mouth.
Watching him, Hua Xiaomo’s heart unexpectedly tightened. The words she had intended to ask—if he was alright—inexplicably changed to, "President Qi, shall we go down?"
He’d only worn a shirt all night; it was no wonder he was catching a cold.
"Heh... are you indirectly answering my question?" Qi Longbing smiled, a sly, charming expression that made his true feelings utterly inscrutable.
"What?" Hua Xiaomo was taken aback.
"..." Qi Longbing looked at her, his eyes softening. After a moment, he chuckled. "Nothing. Let’s go down. This really isn’t a place fit for people to stay!"
He couldn’t fathom why he’d uttered that last curse. His mood was ambivalent—not particularly good, yet not especially bad.
Whether he was affected by the last thing she had murmured in her dream last night, only he knew best.
Watching her walk towards the elevator, his hands inexplicably curled into claws against his will...
His eyes shone with a wolf-like ferocity, appearing utterly terrifying. And yet, despite that, she knew deep down her feelings towards him weren’t entirely bad. She actually wanted to befriend him—really, just starting as friends for now!
