Chapter 40: Chapter 37 Finding Money Isn’t Too Hard
But now, looking for an internship at a company without a diploma wasn’t going to be easy, was it? Besides, without a diploma, many would just treat me as a casual laborer, and they might not even pay me.
No matter what, I had to hang in there until graduation to find a good job. Only then could I support myself and my mother.
But my mother’s condition couldn’t wait; she needed nutrients to recover. Without money, nothing was possible.
Truly, without money, everything is a struggle.
"But it’s still half a year before I can get my diploma..." Hua Xiaomo murmured to herself, unintentionally walking to the side gate of the campus.
From a distance, she saw an Ouhong Shopping Mall, and on its first floor, there was a McDonald’s with a big ’M’.
Aha! I’ve got it!
Haha, it seems making money isn’t that hard after all!
Hua Xiaomo smiled slyly and hurried toward the McDonald’s fast-food restaurant.
Without much trouble, Hua Xiaomo found a temporary waitress job at McDonald’s. The pay was daily, which felt quite good.
Thinking about it, I could work here during the day and also bring some food back for my mother.
Uh... Just as she had this thought, Hua Xiaomo froze.
Every time she thought of that person, her mood soured. And as for bringing food back—she had to have dinner with that guy for a whole month, so what was the point of bringing McDonald’s!
Sigh... I really wish these days would end soon.
On Hua Xiaomo’s first day as a McDonald’s waitress, there were endless tasks to do, but no matter how tired she was, she kept smiling brightly and continued working.
At noon, Yu Bao called to ask about lunch. She made up an excuse, saying she had already eaten at the college cafeteria, which also prevented him from coming into the college to find her.
So, Yu Bao waited at the main entrance of the college while Hua Xiaomo had already slipped out the side gate and gone to McDonald’s to work her part-time job, ensuring they didn’t interfere with each other.
Hua Xiaomo’s eyes twinkled with cunning as she quickly set her phone to vibrate and placed it in her bag. Anyway, I can’t hear it vibrate, so it doesn’t matter.
The day ended smoothly and quickly.
Though it was tiring, I felt revitalized in body and spirit. And at the end of the shift at six in the evening, I even received a modest but genuinely deserved reward.
"Wow, my Renminbi, I love you so much!" Hua Xiaomo laughed, quickly changing out of her work clothes. As she was walking out of the store, the enthusiastic manager, a tall young man named Zhou Xiyang, who was also half British-Chinese, patted her on the shoulder. "Xiao Mo, come back tomorrow, okay?"
"OK! No problem," Hua Xiaomo responded with a charming smile, then stepped out of McDonald’s.
She pulled out the phone from her bag just as it started vibrating. Seeing the string of 8s at the end of the caller ID gave her a headache.
Ugh, it’s that Qi Longbing!
Hua Xiaomo hesitated a bit but picked up the call, "Hello?"
"I’ve called you so many times. Why didn’t you answer?" he demanded immediately.
"Sorry, I was in class at the college. My phone was on vibrate, and I didn’t hear it," Hua Xiaomo explained.
Qi Longbing was silent for half a minute—a long half-minute, during which Hua Xiaomo really wanted to hang up.
"Which building are you in? I’ll have Yu Bao come to find you," he asked again.
Find me? Hua Xiaomo reacted quickly. "No need, I’m almost at the main gate. Just have him wait there."
