Chapter 62: Love And Obsession
Chapter 62: Love And Obsession
Lucy felt like she had been traveling inside a tunnel. It was a long tunnel filled with nothing but cold and darkness.
She shivered as the coldness seeped through her bones. She longed desperately for something inside the tunnel, searching for warmth and comfort.
Suddenly, a bright light shone through the end of the tunnel. The tiny speck of light turned wide until it burst through her senses.
Finally, Lucy opened her eyes to the sunlight peering through the curtains and windows.
It was already morning when she woke up. Usually, she would wake up around 4 in the morning in cold sweat. So, this was the first that she woke up to the sight of the sun peeking through the windows and feeling refreshed.
But that feeling soon vanished into thin smoke when she realized where she was and who was lying beside her.
How could she have fallen asleep? And in the arms of the man, she swore to hate no less?
If there were an award for the Biggest Fool of All, Lucy would gladly receive it. Because right now, she was a bigger fool than she thought.
Lucy tensed her muscles as the person beside her moved, the mattress beside her compressing under his weight and the sheets rustling against their skin.
Let him sleep longer.
Don’t wake, don’t wake!
She chanted inwardly as she dared not move as she was afraid a single movement of hers would wake Landon up.
When he finally stopped moving and evened his breathing, Lucy finally rolled to the side and allowed herself to fall from the bed to the floor. Thankfully, it was carpeted and it didn’t make her fall painful or loud.
Soon after maneuvering herself out of bed, Lucy counted to ten before she stood up and rushed out of the room. She left before Landon could wake up and see her in bed with him. She didn’t want to take that risk and have him hold her down.
Without a glance back, Lucy was out of the room and fled out of the hotel. But what she didn’t know was that right after she left the bedroom, Landon, who was staying quiet and asleep, opened his eyes and sat up.
His eyes were deep, distant, and intense. Yet, they were clearer than anything else. He hadn’t been hallucinating. Landon was sure of this.
How? Because he had been awake since a couple of minutes ago.
When he woke up and felt someone beside him, he was filled with emotions he couldn’t describe. Disgust, disappointment, and hatred. All of which he pointed at himself for letting himself get drunk and made a mistake, dragging some woman to bed.
This wasn’t the first time someone had tried to get in his bed. Some of them were sent by his mother in order to continue their family legacy, seeing that her only son drowned himself in sorrow and grief over the disappearance of his wife.
As a bachelor who has both looks and money, no amount of women tried to throw themselves at his feet for a little bit of his attention. His friends persuaded him to forget, drown himself in alcohol and they’d help get some women who could comfort him and ease up his frustration.
Yet, Landon refused them all. All these women were left and thrown out of his room. None of them even made it to his bed.
But he must have been really out of his mind that he couldn’t resist the temptation.
Because, now, he was lying beside a woman. Was it someone his mother had sent?
Landon didn’t want to open his eyes, knowing that it would only make him feel worse. But he had to do it. He had to make sure that nothing really happened and he had to ensure that the woman wouldn’t become an obstacle to him.
And what he saw didn’t only bring him surprise. For a second, he thought whoever this was, his mother had truly outdone herself in finding someone who had so much resemblance to his wife.
But after a couple of seconds, Landon could no longer deceive himself.
The girl lying beside him, quiet and asleep, was none other than Lucy.
Was this a dream? Did God create a realistic dream where he would find himself awake beside her one day and then wake up the next second in the real world only to find himself lying alone in bed?
Landon had seen many hallucinations and dreams that he thought he was seeing something unreal.
The soft breathing that came from her nose, the unique scent of sweetness and flowers coming from her, and the warm body that he was feeling under his arm, everything was too real for it to be just a dream.
But what if it was? Landon was scared that he was hyping himself up too much.
Besides, what he worried the most was that Lucy would once again run away from him. He wouldn’t want that. He didn’t want her to run and hide, nowhere to be seen again.
And so, leashing over the extreme urge to pull her tightly in his arms, shackle her to his side, and never let her go, Landon stayed asleep. At least, he pretended to sleep. He hoped that it wouldn’t scare Lucy away, forcing herself to hide from him.
Not even a few minutes after he did this, she woke up with a start, as he had expected.
Landon couldn’t see her with his eyes closed, but he could feel her heart racing underneath her chest. Her breathing picked up as she turned into stone beside him.
He could almost hear her thoughts. She must have prayed he stayed asleep and didn’t see her.
Despite the desire to make her feel disappointed, Landon reigned in the urges and let her slip away.
Now that he had seen her, finding her again would be very easy.
Landon didn’t know what she came back for. What brought her back here? And why did she stay hidden?
But one thing he knew for sure, whatever reason she had, he’d accept it all.
In return, Lucy should be ready to belong to him because he’d never let her go again.
