Chapter 125: PENDANT OF ETERNITY
Chapter 125: Chapter 125: PENDANT OF ETERNITY
"Damn! Miss, that’s the pendant! The one the old madam kept stored in the deepest part of her safe!" Emma exclaimed upon seeing it.
Zara looking at the ruby pendant, glowing as if there was blood in it, smiled as well as she looked at it.
She knew about this pendant more than anyone else. Her grandmother loved telling her about the legend associated with the pendant. Back then, she listened to it with vigor. After all, being a child, anything and any story can move you easily.
However, what she knew was that the pendant was priceless, and it was a family heirloom from her grandmother. Something that she had never wanted to part with and yet it was given to her. What was her grandmother thinking?
Regardless of what she was thinking, however, she loved it and she wasn’t going to ask anything. It was so red and seemed to match completely with her. Looking at it, just like the first time her grandmother carefully took it out of the box, she felt connected to it.
However, back then, she simply thought that it was her love for shiny things and the legend her grandmother told her that made her attracted to it.
Now she was older and understood better. Just holding it in her hand, it felt as if it was home and it belonged there. However, how could that be possible?
Thinking about it again, what can’t be possible?
She was cursed with a millennia curse, and someone hated her so much to cast such a spell on her. If he didn’t get rid of the curse in a year, she would die. And currently, three months had passed, which left her with nine.
She received a golden book which provided answers and guidance, which was a blessing, as she wouldn’t have done anything with it.
In her body, she has a spiritual fountain or well, not sure what it was, but every day she gets to drink that water. It was the water which had saved her life up to this point.
If that could happen, why would it be strange for her to feel connected to the pendant?
The ruby pendant was called the pendant of eternity, and the naming kind of relates to the legend her grandmother told her about when she was young.
According to her grandmother, who believed so much in folklore. Her great-grandmother was the one who told her about the legend.
It was said that a very long time ago, in folklore they barely mention the exact time frame, so it wasn’t certain whether it was millennia, centuries or what, but whatever it was, it happened a very long time ago which made sense if it was true.
A very long time ago, there was a pair of destined lovers, destined to meet but couldn’t meet as easily as people would imagine. The girl held a higher position in society; however, she was very kind to everyone which made a lot of people love her.
This girl, one day, came across a young man and fell in love. They both fell in love and their love was something that everyone celebrated. This love should have lasted as people prayed earnestly for it. Unfortunately, when people aren’t destined to be, fate has its own ways.
The girl one day suddenly died and as she died, another young man with a lower status, at the bottom of the caste system, found her. She bled in his arms and as he watched her die; he regretted not being courageous enough to confess his feelings for her.
No one knew where the girl’s lover was, but looking at how she was bleeding, the man knew that she had been betrayed. Otherwise, how could she bleed like that?
While holding her in his arms, the girl’s body started flickering, fading with the wind. Seeing that, he panicked. He wanted to do something about it. Prevent her from disappearing forever. Unfortunately, fate was laughing at him.
It didn’t take a while until there was nothing left of her body except the blood which had dropped to the ground. It was only that blood which proved to him that she was there and existed.
Overwhelmed by guilt and regret at being weak, the young man collected the blood and forged a ruby gem with it.
Then comes the part which made Zara not believe in such nonsense in the first place. According to the legend, the man enchanted the blood for decades, slowly losing his life the more he did. And by the time the ruby was forged, the man was hanging on a thin thread, dying.
With his dying breath, the man wrote down a vow. ’With this blood, I will bring you back to life at all costs. I will love you, serve you and make sure that I will not be cowardly. I will find you first, so just wait for me!’
That was how the legend ended.
And then now comes the question. If that was, let’s say, how things happened a very long time ago. Who was there to record what the man in question witnessed and how he forged the ruby?
Who found him when he was dying and who did he leave the ruby with?
Most importantly, what was the ruby doing with her grandmother’s family?
Could it be that there were descendants of the protagonists of the legend?
It just didn’t make sense to her at all. However, since it was a legend and a myth, she didn’t need to ponder much over it.
As long as the pendant likes her, and she likes it, that’s all that mattered.
Feeling a deep connection to the legendary ruby, also known as the pendant of eternity, relating to how the man’s love for the girl was eternal, Zara didn’t set it aside as she did with other gifts, but gracefully wore it.
Since it had fallen in her hands, wouldn’t it be a waste to not wear it?
