THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 87: DAMSEL IN DESIRE

Chapter 87: DAMSEL IN DESIRE

Fay shut her eyes tighter, pretending not to hear the quiet tap of feet shuffling the ground.

The blinds were tightened shut, entrapping even the slightest hint of sunlight trying to bypass it.

Closer the feet drew, and stopped at the foot of the bed.

"Still pretending to be asleep?" She heard an English tone question, and she smiled.

"Doctor Alexander?" She opened her eyes.

"You’re awake. And please Fay, it’s just Alexander to you."

"Leighton calls you Xan. Ironic because it’s slang for hard drugs, and you’re a doctor," she chuckled hysterically at her joke.

Her laughter dialed when Alexander’s brow remained lifted.

"How do you know about the hard drug, Xan?"

"Uhmmm, didn’t Leighton tell you the area we grew up in wasn’t really the safest? She had the nicest house around, and it was only because it had a garden."

"So, there were lots of druggies around?" He asked, clearing a space to sit beside her.

"Druggies, petty thieves, kidnappers, you name it."

"Wow. You don’t look like you grew up around such hardness," he said, leaning closer to catch every word she had to say.

It was embarrassing to admit, but he also wanted to sniff her.

Her smell was an elixir. It had the potential to drag one into the realms of obsessive madness.

She was also beautiful. So beautiful he wanted to put her on a billboard for the world to marvel at her beauty, or lock her up in a museum where only he could see her.

The worst part was how she was seemingly unaware of how attractive she was. It made her all the more alluring.

She giggled. "I don’t? Maybe it’s because I’m skinny, so I automatically look harmless."

"Nope. It’s just you. You don’t have a mean bone in your body. It’s very at— interesting," he quickly corrected himself.

He didn’t want her to feel awkward next to him. Talking to her this casually was going to be the highlight of his entire year.

They were like lovers. Hanging on the same bed, and just chatting.

However, his mind couldn’t just stop conjuring Ace. Somewhere deep in his conscience, he abhorred the fact he knew they couldn’t be, until her and Ace weren’t a thing anymore.

He wished he could ask her where her head, and her heart was. But he couldn’t afford to come off as a creep in front of the woman he adored.

"Where’s Leighton?" She suddenly asked, changing the topic.

"She went out to do some grocery shopping. Apparently, we’ve run out of everything."

"We?" She raised her brow.

"Uhmmm," his eyes went from squinting to widening. "Oh, you don’t know we live together?"

"Oh my God! How could I not have figured it out?" Her lips pursed.

"Well I guess we should have plainly stated it. We live together because we’re barely ever at home. We just thought we could save more money living together." He felt the need to clarify.

"What about the risks?" She asked before she could stop herself.

She bit her lips, realizing she was only projecting her reality to him. It wasn’t anyone else’s fault but her lack of self control that she had grown feelings for Ace..

That even with the facts laid bare to her, there was still this tiny part in her heart that hoped there was something redeemable in him.

While she was thinking about how absurd she was for feening over a horrible man, Alexander was enchanted.

Her lips were still pressed against each other. It was the sexiest thing he had ever seen any woman do.

He had seen people bite their lips, but none had made it this inviting.

"Jesus Christ," he muttered in his head.

"What risks?" He continued after gathering himself. It was a risky question itself, but he couldn’t help himself.

"Nothing." She shook her head.

"Are you sure, Fay?" He grinned in amusement.

She cleared her throat, and straightened into a sitting position. "I think I’m thirsty," she said, trying to change the topic.

He caught her intention, and smiled.

"Alright. I’ll get you some water."

As he rose to his feet, the guilt of what he was keeping away from her suddenly made him feel weary.

He couldn’t be unfair to her. She was too precious to him for him to just easily deceive, or withhold information from her.

Taking a deep breath, he turned to face her. "Ace called," he said.

Those words, just two words. Small, yet mighty. So mighty, it made her shudder.

"What did he want?" She asked, torn between yearning for him, and fear of what he was capable of doing.

"He wanted an address. I told him I couldn’t give it to him until you gave him permission."

He had done a good thing. Left the decision in her hands, so it was up to her whether to see him today or not. But why did she feel so disappointed?

"Thank you," she managed to say, despite the thickness in her throat. "Thank you for not taking away my autonomy."

"I would never do that to you, Fay. You’re too important a person to me." He turned around, and exited the room.

Fay sniffled, fighting off hot tears threatening to spill down her face.

She couldn’t continue pretending not to see it. Alexander obviously liked her.

She liked him too. Unfortunately, it was more platonic than an attraction..

Things could have been way different if she could reciprocate his feelings. He was genuine, a bright light in this fucked up world filled with dark demons.

He was nice, cheerful, and considerate of her feelings.

Everything Ace had proven not to be.

Yet, seated on a strange bed, all she could think of was Ace.

He was so consuming, she couldn’t help but think about his grandmother’s offer.

It would sure make for an exciting adventure. When in her life had she ever had one?

The first time she acted on impulse, she married a cold hearted billionaire who swore to protect her, but only did the opposite of it. Although in truth, it was not entirely his fault.

What if she did it for a second time, and got that billionaire who had got her body heated, to fall for her.

"Impossible!" Her innate voice cackle maniacally.

"Nothing is!" The other rebuked it.

"Lets call a spade a spade, no pun intended. Ace is too popular among the ladies to be kept in lock by just one woman. Who knows what he’s out doing when she’s locked in this room?"

"Don’t be a bitch."

"When has it never?" Faymuttered, just as the door opened, and Alexander returned with a glass of water.

Behind him was Leighton holding a tray.

"You still talk to yourself?" She chuckled, pushing forward.

Fay’s face turned crimson, as she buried her head to the bed.

"She talks to herself?" Alexander mused.

Imitating his laughter, she walked to the windows, and opened the blinds Alexander had taken his time to tightly conceal.

"She does. But that’s something only she can share."

"You already stated it." He rolled his eyes, as he pushed a small table to the foot of the bed.

"Fay?" Leighton snapped her finger.

Her head lifted, and bright streaks of light flowed into her eyes. She quickly shielded them with her hand. "I preferred the darkness."

"See?!" Alexander stuck out his tongue..

"Such a baby," she hissed. "Anyway, my dear, you need a little bit of sunlight, and a whole lot of food." She pointed to the table which Alexander had helped her set.

"When did you do this?" Fay gasped, as she inched forward to the table before her.

"I went to the grocery store, hoping to gaslight myself into thinking I could make something edible. Realizing I was deceiving myself, I stopped by a restaurant and bought breakfast. But don’t fret, I trust this restaurant."

"A doctor trusting a restaurant?"

"Xan?!" She warned with squinted eyes.

Fay giggled as she watched them. It was good to witness genuine friendship. She didn’t know when she began to eat, as she watched them tussle with words.

Suddenly, screeching sounds reverberated..

"What’s that?" Alexander asked, already out the door in a heartbeat.

Fay jumped out of bed, but Leighton was immediately beside her, telling her not to worry.

They both waited to see what was going on.

Alexander opened the door, to take a look outside. But as soon as he did, Ace stormed past him into the house.

"Where is Fay?!" He questioned in a loud voice that echoed all the way to the room Fay stood.

"Ace?" Her hand instantly covered her mouth.

"What is he doing here? I haven’t given him the address yet." Leighton frowned as she marched out of the room.

"Why did you badge into my house, Ace?" She asked, her eyes darting from Alexander who looked like he was trying to stop himself from going off, to a determined Ace.

"To get Fay. Tell her we’re leaving together," he said arrogantly.

"Or what?" She questioned in disbelief.

"I could just go get her myself."

In a flash, he walked past Leighton, and went the exact direction she had just come out from.
