Chapter 67: FAY VS HER HEART

"I miss you Fay," the little girl said, and Fay’s heart squeezed.

"I miss you too munchkin. How have you been? Tell me, have you been well?" She asked in a rush.

"I’m fine. Ma’am Gabrielle is really nice. The twins are nice too. Grandma bought me a box of white chocolate," she giggled.

"I’m so glad to hear you’re fine," Fay said, making a mental note of the fact she didn’t mention Aunt Celine. "Sophie, I promise to come see you as soon as I can, okay? You can’t see me, but I’m raising my pinky right now."

"Really? But I don’t want you to stress yourself. You need to heal a lot before thinking about leaving the house. Promise? And I’m raising my pinky too."

Fay laughed heartily. "Alright darling. But let’s talk more, okay? I’ll get ma’am Gabrielle’s number from Ace, so I can call you whenever I want to hear your voice."

"Okay!" She said excitedly. "Where’s Ace?"

"He’s not home at the moment. Should I tell him you asked after him?"

"Please do."

"I’ll do just that, darling. Bye my princess."

"Bye fairy."

The call came to an end, and Fay looked at Marilyn with glee in her eyes.

"She’s such a mood elevator," she sighed with content.

"She really is. Do you want something to drink, Mrs Fay?"

"Again with the Mrs," she rolled her eyes. "Anyway, I’m good. I just want to go to my room, and rest my head a little bit," she turned to leave, but stopped before she could take a step. "Has anyone actually seen my phone?"

"It should be on your bedside table," Alice answered.

"Thanks."

She walked up the stairs, and went straight into her room.

Her eyes trailed towards the bathroom door as her feet moved into the room.

A shudder ran through her as a memory of that horrible night surfaced in her head.

She didn’t know if she’d ever be able to go into that room without having a major anxiety attack.

Whipping her head away from the door, she kept it to the side as she made her way to her bed.

Just like Alice had said, she found her phone resting on the bed side table.

She picked it up, its touch pulling a smile out of her face.

Almost a week spent in the hospital without her phone had not been as difficult as she expected it to be.

Maybe it was because she never really had any sentimental attachments to phones.

She got the ones her money could afford, so she could communicate. There was never anything more to it.

But this phone was one of the prettiest things she owned. She placed a gentle kiss on it before flipping it open.

To her heart’s content, it was fully charged.

She noticed an icon with a lot of numbers at the top of her screen. Opening it, she found lots of messages.

Frowning, she plopped to the bed, and began to scroll.

Most were just pop up notifications from the messaging app itself.

She was about to exit the app when she saw a message from an interesting username.

"Queen of hearts?" She muttered, as her thumb hovered around the message.

She didn’t know why her heart was suddenly beating fast, as she opened the message.

There was no text. Instead, it was a video.

Her thumb trembled as she pressed play on the video.

An image of a man and a woman engaging in an intense sex session began to play.

Her eyes widened, and with a start, she tossed the phone to the bed.

Holding her thumping heart, she tried to steady her breath. She closed her eyes, but opened it right back up.

She squeezed her face, and looked beside her to the spot she had tossed the phone.

"Why are you acting like such a prude?" She questioned herself.

"Good question Fay. It’s just a video. Do you never plan on doing it?

"Oh here we go," she muttered as her innate voices arrived.

"Leave her alone. She doesn’t need to watch vulgar things if she doesn’t want to."

"But are you sure she doesn’t want to? I know a curious eyes when I see one."

"Oh God, you’re so annoying! Leave her alone."

Fay breathed out, and grabbed her phone again. Tapping her chest gently, her head went down, as she opened the phone.

The video began to play from the start.

"I told you she was curious."

"Shut it!"

She ignored the voices, and focused on the man and woman. Their faces were not visible, but from the movement of their bodies, you could tell they were pretty into what they were doing.

The more she watched, the more she wondered why this video was sent to her..

Her answer came when the girls hair which had been covering both their faces pulled to the side.

She only saw his side profile when her breath caught against her chest.

"Oh!" She wheezed.

Her eyes went up to the username again. Suddenly, she knew who they both were.

"Ace and Reign?" She gasped, and covered her mouth, as the phone slipped from her hand. Thankfully, it fell between her thighs.

Reign had sent her a video of them making love? But why? To what end?

Her head throbbed as thoughts after thoughts popped up.

She twisted her hands nervously. Her inexperience had never made her feel awkward until this very moment.

She found herself comparing herself with Reign. That was clearly a woman who knew what she was doing. The way she moves her body. Her sighs of pleasure.

Fay’s legs squeezed, as she bit her lips. She could never imagine herself being a participant. Watching was already difficult.

Twenty-four years old without ever having sex didn’t seem bad. But that was before the video.

"Why are you so bothered? It’s not like you plan on doing anything with your one year husband."

"Could you be nice? It’s clearly difficult to see her husband in that position. Give her some grace!"

"What husband? They’re only married on paper. He could be outside cheating right now and it wouldn’t matter. At least not to her. Right Fay?"

It was a question she wanted to avoid, alas! She couldn’t.

She searched her heart to see if she would actually be bothered by Ace philandering. Technically, she had no right to be.

Miss Bad was right. They were married only on paper.

So why did her heart suddenly feel like little pins were pricking it?

Why couldn’t she get the thought of Ace with Reign out of her head? And why did the thought make her head throb?

There was a simple answer for that. She felt inadequate.

She shut her eyes as her lips quivered.

Nothing could ever happen between her and Ace because she was a cold, inexperienced clown. He would laugh in her face if he knew how inexperienced she was.

He probably kissed her just to play with her feelings.

Here she was like a fool, in her feelings. Her thoughts were so distorted, they jumped from one extreme to the other.

"No, I can’t do this," She shook her head, and opened her eyes. "There has to be a way to stop myself from overthinking things."

"It would help if you don’t run away from these things."

"It’s none of your business what she chooses to do."

For the third time, Fay picked up her phone and went to Google.

She was going to find information on how to stop overthinking things.

However, the second the app opened, a news popped.

"Not again," she muttered in her heart, as she opened the news.

They were pictures and videos, and writings, all concerning Ace.

She scrolled down and saw headlines after headlines.

Her time in the hospital too. There were videos of her being rolled into the hospital.

The more she tapped, the more her chest tightened.

There was a video of Ace leaving the hospital the night she was admitted.

Her thoughts wandered briefly to the next morning. She remembered feeling weird because she discovered his rendezvous with Reign from perceiving him.

Squeezing her hands into a fist, she wondered if it was the same night they made the video Reign sent her.

"No Fay. Let’s not do that." She shook the thoughts out of her head.

She kept watching videos after videos.

At the end, she realized she had been protected far more than she was aware. Totally oblivious of the outside world and the battles Ace had to face alone, she had harshly judged his character.

"Forgive me," she whispered wearily.

Pulling the phone away for the last time, she rose to her feet and returned it back to the bedside.

Things were beginning to make sense now. She thought, her head in a tizzy.

Her eyes were slowly opening to everything happening around her. It wasn’t just one battle.

There was the one against her aunt, when all she wanted was peace with her. Another with Ace’s Aunt, because it finally dawned on her she hated him, and hated her by extension.

One with Reign who felt she stole something from her. The one she just discovered which was against the press. Almost like they had a vendetta against Ace, and again by extension, her.

She muttered a brief thank you at the fact her face didn’t show in any of the videos and pictures.

But the final battle was the most difficult. It was the battle against Ace.

"A losing battle," she muttered, placing her hand on her chest.
