THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 42: COLD CONFRONTATION

Chapter 42: COLD CONFRONTATION

The journalists scampered all over for safety, some falling to the ground, and quickly getting up, just to flee.

Landon looked into his best friend’s eyes as he sped forward, and knew there was no stopping him.

His butt clenched into the seat, as he held his breath, and shut his eyes.

Ace eyes were stuck on the road, closer, and closer, he inched towards the hospital gate.

He felt the fears of the people around, as they screamed and jumped to safety. He was going to be making the evening, next morning, and in fact, the headlines for the rest of the month, but he could care less.

As he approached the gate, he could hear an announcement being made, for everyone around to vacate the premises of the hospital area, especially the parking lot.

His lip curved into a humorless smile, as he turned the steering to the right, and drove through the gate.

He applied the brake, only when the car was situated at the parking lot. The car bounced because of the sudden decrease of pressure, and came to a halt.

When he didn’t notice any movement, he turned to his side and saw his best friend, Landon Baxter with his eyes closed, his thighs jammed together, and his hand clenched into a ball.

He moved his hand to tap him, but thought of a better way to bring the fool back to reality.

Stretching his hand to the steering, he pressed on the honker. The sound vibrated round the car, causing Landon to jerk up. His eyes flickered open, and he whipped his head to the side.

"What the heck man!" He breathed out heavily, like he had just ran a marathon.

"Pussy," Ace mumbled, and alighted from the car.

He followed after him. "I’m the pu—" his words trailed, when he discovered everyone around were looking at them with mouths agape.

Ace didn’t mind. He didn’t give a fuck either. His eyes were set forward, with one goal in mind.

Not even when the cameras began to go crazy did he stop, or turn. Let them get their high,

he thought.

The doors opened up, and he stepped into the lobby of the hospital. All eyes went straight to him. Some were Judgy, the others glistering.

Landon tried to keep it as cool as Ace, but he soon found out it was more difficult than it looked. He had almost forgotten Ace was a master of nonchalance. The connoisseur of not giving a damn. Maybe someday, he’d master the art too, but not today. Not with everyone’s eyes focused solely on them.

The elevator carrying them to the private floor where Fay was being kept, slid open, and they went in. Landon let out the nervous breath he’d been holding in since they stepped out of the car.

"You need to slow down, calm down, every fucking down!"

"I’m calm. You’re the one clearly bothered." Ace shrugged.

His forehead creased, as he thought about what he’d just said. "Wait. I don’t mean calm, as in externally. I mean you never really give away your anger. But I can feel the iciness emanating from you. I don’t think you should go see your sick wife, until you’re calm enough."

He chortled. "You too? Everyone seems to have poor Fay’s interest at heart. She hasn’t even cried in front of you yet, and you already feel sorry for her." The elevator stopped, and opened for them to come out.

"She cries a lot?" He hastened his pace so he could walk side by side with Ace.

"A river."

"And you married her?" He asked, amusement dancing in his eyes.

"Exactly why I married her."

"Because you’d never be attracted to her." He finished up, nodding his head.

"At least, Amsterdam didn’t wipe up all your critical sense," he said, taking a turn.

"Hey, I’ve always had a lot of sense!" called defensively, feigning hurt.

"Sure, let’s go with that."

He came to an abrupt stop in front of Fay’s room. A nurse was just about to go in, when she stopped on seeing him.

Fixing her sliding glasses, she gasped when she saw it was actually him. "Ace– Atticus," she stuttered, moving back.

"Get out of here. I want to speak to my wife," he ordered.

"But—"

"I said out." He repeated in a less shouty, more colder and deeper voice.

She scrammed, as his eyes returned to the door.

"Now you’re scaring the nurses," he smacked his teeth. "You’re really going to blast off in there, won’t you?"

"We’ll see about that."

Taking a deep breath, he pushed the door open, and stepped into the room.

The laughter instantly ceased when their heads turned to the entrance, and found Ace.

His eyes went straight to Fay. The first thing he noticed was that she had changed into a different clothes. Good, because that weird hospital gown made her look sickly.

Second thing he noticed was Alice’s hand in the air. It was wielding a spoon. He didn’t need to put two and two together to know they were feeding her.

Judging by their happy faces that went dim the second he stepped into the room, they weren’t aware of the news circulating all about.

Yet, his eyes trailed back to Fay. He searched through her face. Trying to find any evidence that pointed to her immense betrayal, but she gave nothing.

"Hey everyone!" Landon popped up from behind, hoping to clear the tension in the air.

"Sir Landon!" Alice, and Marilyn both screamed in sync.

"You’re back?" Marilyn’s eyes lit up.

"Oh Mar," he strode forward with his arms open. "Of course I am. What? You thought I’d never return?" He asked, feigning hurt.

"I’m just glad you’re back." She laughed, and went into his arms.

They hugged for a few seconds before he pulled away, and turned to Alice who still had her hand stuck in the air

"You know I visited a couple of really good restaurants, but none compared to what these hands of yours are capable of unleashing."

"You flatterer!" Alice laughed, and went in for a hug too.

She was pulling away when she realized one hand was still up. "Oops!" She laughed, and brought it down.

Fay couldn’t help but laugh at what happened too.

"See, you’re laughing!" Mar turned to her with twinkling eyes.

Landon was captivated by her laughter. "Mrs Fay?" He faced her. "I’m Landon Baxter, your husband’s best friend in this entire world." He stretched out his hands. .

She giggled, and stretched out her own hand. "I’m Fay."

He raised her hand up, and placed a gentle kiss on it. "Now I see why my friend had to marry you even without informing me. You’re gorgeous!" He said, lifting his head.

"Thank you," she said.

He noticed her smile faltered a little when he mentioned how beautiful she was, but said nothing of it.

"Now that introductions have been exchanged, I need to be left alone with my wife," Ace suddenly said in a cold, calculative voice.

"Ace—" Landon was calling when he was met with a deadly glare.

"I said leave," he repeated between his teeth, emphasizing every word.

"Sir Ace, we have to feed Mrs Fay. She just woke up, and took a bath. If she doesn’t eat a lot, she wouldn’t be able to start her medication," Alice said, worried lines stretched across her forehead, and her jaw.

"I didn’t ask for an opinion Alice, I gave an order. I want to be alone with Fay. Please don’t make me repeat myself."

Fay, sensing this was not a friendly request, began to tremble. His friend had been so pleasant. Talking to her like they were absolute best friends who had known each other forever. Then here comes broody Ace. His cold eyes, piercing through the heat of her reserve.

"Sir Ace—" Marilyn quickly folded her lips, and stepped forward. "Let’s go, Alice. We’ll return, and make sure Mrs Fay eats."

"Yeah." Alice pulled the food aside, and closed it. "We’ll just be outside if you need us."

Fay nodded, trying to project a strength she didn’t feel deep within. When she had woken up from the nap just twenty minutes ago, she had totally forgotten the pain she felt in the presence of Celine, and Ace’s grandmother. But the way Ace was looking made all of that memory return in force.

"Please be kind with her," Marilyn couldn’t help but mutter under her breath, as she passed by Ace.

In his head, he was a little tickled. She couldn’t outrightly rebel against his words, but this was her way of telling him she disagreed with the method being applied.

"Are you sure about this?" Landon asked, stopping beside him.

"Leave, Landon!"

"Fine." He threw a surrendering hand into the air, and walked out of the room.

As the door shut behind him, he moved forward, and stopped in front of Fay’s bed.

"Hey," she mustered all the courage she could reach for, and smiled. "You’re here."

"This is not a courtesy visit to Fay. I want to know everything that transpired between you and my aunt, starting now!" He said in a firm voice that made her heart jump, and her palm sweat.
