THE BILLIONAIRE'S CRYBABY
Chapter 28: EMERGENCY WARD

Chapter 28: EMERGENCY WARD

The staff scampered for safety, as he pulled one leg back. With a heavy force, he projected it forward, stomping the door.

There was no movement, no cracks, not even a slight bend. The only damage was on his muscles which he almost pulled.

Cam, who had exited the passage before, returned with an ax in his hand.

"I think you should move back boss," he suggested, tapping his shoulders.

He turned around in anger, but paused when his eyes fell on the ax. "Go ahead." He nudged his head towards the door.

"I hope the madam is safe. Why’s she not coming out, Alice? Why isn’t she coming out?" Marilyn bawled her eyes out.

"She’ll be fine Mar. I trust the lord to protect her." She hugged her friend into her body, comforting her, as she herself prayed.

The water rose slightly above ground level, instantly alarming everyone.

Cam rolled his pants up, so he could properly spread his legs apart. He held the ax behind his head, and brought it heavily on the door made from the finest hardwood.

The first hit caused a slight crack, raising Ace’s hopes up. Despite his calm exterior, his mind was in turmoil. If anything happened to Fay, he was done for. Not only would his aunt finally find the final nail on his coffin, the press would be out to tear him apart.

"What the fuck happened to you!" He questioned internally. Stuck between anger, and worry.

Cam hit a second time, and it cracked a little. Seth, the burlier of all the men, who happened to be the mansion’s gardener, stepped forward, and snatched the ax out of Cam’s hands.

"Let me do it." He rolled up his sleeve, and raised the ax up. One hit directly at the position of the door handle, sent it flying open.

Ace didn’t wait to hear the sighs of relief, and howls of jubilation happening behind him. He stormed into the room, walked through the water, and dashed into the bathroom.

He didn’t see Fay immediately, but when he saw strands of her locks floating, his heart jumped to his mouth.

"Fay!" He let out an agonizing growl, as he moved over to the bathtub.

"Where’s she!" He heard a voice ask behind him, but he was too invested in carrying her out of the water, to bother to look.

His hand searched for the tap first. When he found it, he quickly put it off.

"Fay," he whispered, as he pushed his hands into the tub, and started to pull her out.

"Do you need help?"

"Why are you asking? Let’s help him!" Seth said, moving to the other end of the tub.

"Wait!" Ace stopped them. Rising up, he grabbed a towel from the ones hung to dry on the rail, and crouched.

Together, the three men began lifting her out of the water. When she was almost out, they turned their faces away, whilst Ace wrapped the towel around her.

They completely lifted her up, and deposited her in his hands. He carried her bridal style, and carefully walked out of the room.

"Mrs Fay!" Alice and Marilyn both screamed at the same time, when they saw a body in Ace’s arms.

"Did anyone call the ambulance? Call them now! Call whoever needs to be called to clear out the water!" He barked out orders behind his shoulder, as he walked down the hallway, and went straight to his room.

He placed her on her side on the bed, and ran a quick observation of her state with his eyes. She was pale, cold, and a little swollen in the stomach. She had purple patches all over her body, and her skin looked a little wrinkled.

It was almost like she had drowned.

The thought paused his motion, and he shook his head vigorously.

"No you’re not dead. You can’t be dead!" He screamed out.

The door flung open, and two people rammed in.

"Dead? Who said the lady is dead? Sir Ace!" Marilyn screamed, and ran beside Fay.

"Mrs Fay, you can hear me right? It’s me Mar. Remember you asked if you could call me Mar today? You have to wake up." She stretched out her hand to touch her, but Alice from behind grabbed it.

"No, you can’t touch her."

Another person ran into the room. They all turned to see Claire, one of the cleaning girls.

"The ambulance is here sir. The paramedics are coming up," she announced.

Quietly, but swiftly, Marilyn secured the towel around Fay’s body, just as the men in white came into the room.

"I’m Ace Atticus, and this is my wife, Fay." Ace introduced himself to the head of the team.

"Tell me as much as you can, while the boys take her away."

With one eye carefully watching to see how they were handling his wife, he explained everything he knew about the incident.

By the time he was done, she was hoisted into a stretcher, and rolled out of the room.

"I will go with you in the ambulance," he declared before anyone could say otherwise.

"You’re free to follow," the chief said.

"Sir," Marilyn grabbed his hand as he walked past her. "Can I come too, please? She needs a woman by her side."

He didn’t need to think about it for too long, to know she was right. "Check for the clothes not affected by the water, and bring them along. Whatever essentials you think she’d need, bring them along. Tell Cam I said he should drive you to the hospital."

She nodded with gratitude, as he walked away.

When he went into the ambulance, he saw them giving her CPR. With every push, she spouted out water from her mouth.

"She swallowed a whole lot Sir," one of the paramedics said, as they pumped.

It continued for about five minutes, and with every pump, Ace felt the hope leaving his body.

Realistically speaking, she had been in that tub for at least twenty minutes. He wanted nothing more than to believe she could be resuscitated, but the logical part of his brain was fully aware of how much the odds were against them.

"Let’s try something else," he heard one of them say, and turned his head to him.

"She’s not responding. We need oxygen!" Someone screamed.

He looked around as the paramedics ran the lengths of the van, feeling completely useless.

The ambulance suddenly came to a stop, and he turned his head to see they had arrived at the hospital.

A stretcher was pulled out, and she was carried into it. They rolled it into the hospital, and took her straight to the emergency room.

"Who’s on duty, right now?" He heard one of the nurses ask, as he entered the emergency hallway.

He didn’t hear the response, but judging by the look on her face, they probably were reliable.

The chief he had spoken to before walked past, and he hurried after him. "What the hell is going on? Everyone’s scrambling, but no one is talking to me!"

"You have to hold on for at least ten minutes sir. Your wife is in a delicate condition, but best believe we’re doing all our best to save her."

He tapped his shoulders, and walked into the emergency room. Different medical personnel kept coming in, and out of the room. Everyone he asked about Fay, had the same answer. "Just wait."

"Just wait? I can’t wait anymore!" He screamed at the third nurse who gave him that generic answer.

"You don’t talk to our staff in that tone sir. If you can’t patiently wait, I’ll have to ask you to leave." One of the nurses he recognized as a senior nurse, warned.

He decided to zip his lip, but didn’t stop pacing. His head was in shambles. The feeling that they were wasting their time, and she was long gone wouldn’t disappear, despite how much he tried to make it go away.

"Why did you do this to me? To yourself?" He questioned himself, completely in shock and disbelief.

"Was it Aunt Celine? Did she say something terrible to you?" He clenched his jaw, and balled his fist.

"What did that deranged woman say to you!" He almost punched a wall, but stopped himself just in time, when a nurse passed by him.

"Do you have any news for me?" He asked, when she wouldn’t stop staring at him like he had lost his mind.

What man wouldn’t? Married for barely a week, and his wife was in a life and death situation. Everyone will ask questions, and it won’t be pretty questions. They would raise their brows at him.

The media scapegoat, who they loved to spin lies about. This wouldn’t be a different case, no matter how delicate the subject was.

"You’ll get an answer soon. Please be patient." She hurried into the room, leaving him stranded, and alone once more.

He turned around, when he heard footsteps, and saw Marilyn running towards him. Behind her was Cam, holding a bag.

"How’s she? Is she alive? Were they able to revive her?" The older woman asked in a breathy voice.

"I—- I don’t know," he stuttered. Staggering back, he plopped into a chair. "I don’t know Marilyn," he said, the last bit of his hope, hanging by a thread.
